    the way you describe it, it reminds me of the original own brand farm foods burgers. when you fried them from frozen, they thawed out in the pan and almost liquified before your eyes. they were so bad, we nicknamed them SLURRY BURGERS. they were so bad we had to pour the out of the pan straight into the bin. it was a waste of £1, after the first 4 we tried to cook we chucked the remaining 16 away. yup, £1 for 20 burgers. we were not sure what to expect from that but either way, we couldnt insult the kids with them, so it was a chippy supper that night instead.

    I’ve been fortunate enough to have eaten Wagu Beef Kobe Steak original to Japan several years ago. It was bloody gorgeous. It wasn’t cheap. Company do in London 8 years or so ago. The Wagu beef in the U.K. is usually reared in Scotland. The price is a darn sight cheaper than the £200 or so for a 400g Kobe steak in the U.K. However if you go to Thailand Kobe steak is readily available and quite cheap according to friends who have been. I never have. Me, Aldi will do. I love the Wagu burgers they do.
    Additionally I work for the company that prints The Sauce Shop labels - that ketchup is gorgeous

    Just like Angus meat, waghu once it's minced and had additives to it, it looses it's real flavour and texture. Making burger patties from it is just a way to sell scrap meat labeled something fancy.
    I'm looking forward to seeing you make some burgers with the press Gareth. I have a single 10cm one. A huge pattie, but it allows for shrinkage during cooking so you end up with a half decent sized burger.
    Another good burger review today Gareth. Keep them coming 👍🤤😀 Cheers

    • @PotatoPirate123
      @PotatoPirate123 Před 2 lety +4

      @@ThatsWhtasUp it's British Wagyu. There are farms in the UK selling these to supermarkets. I don't think wagyu has protected status like Kobe beef but as I recall the export of the cows from Japan hasn't been allowed for a long time, so I've no idea how truly 'authentic' these wagyu cows are. It might be the result of cross-breeding. A lot of it is in how they're reared anyway , so much of this will be marketing and won't necessarily make for a better quality burger. The fact that it has things like tapioca starch in it is not impressive, given that their basic Oakhurst frozen burgers are 99% beef with seasoning.

      @@PotatoPirate123 yeh there’s a big difference between the wagyu and the proper Japanese bred Kobe beef which is insanely expensive. Plus Kobe beef only comes from japan and has to be imported. Theres a CZcams channel called the Bearded Butchers who had some Kobe beef imported to their farm in America and i dont think they would disclose how much they paid for it, but they said it was the most expensive steak they had ever eaten in their lives. The Kobe beef steak looks more fat than meat but because the marbling that keeps the meat so tender because the fat melts and tenderises the beef.

    Best generally available supermarket burgers I've tried are the Tesco ones (behind the counter) done on a charcoal bbq. They are 6 oz. Maybe they are the ones you mentioned in your vid? Think they're 100% ground chuck steak but not sure. I aspire to have A5 grade Wagyu steak one day but the price is just too crazy. The best Argentinian steak is superb too and a third of the price (which is still astronomical!). Thanks for your upload sir.

      The best burgers i get are always from my local butcher. He hand makes them with the off cuts which means there’s always a good fat and meat percentage inn the patties. Tbh if you a burger out of low fat content mince beef they don’t actually taste that nice because burghers are supposed to have a good fat content to keep them moist. Don’t if you’ve heard of him but there’s a Worcester based craft butcher called Scott Rea and hills channel is called “the Scott Rea project” and you should see how he makes his own burgers and sausages. Just watching is enough too get your taste buds going and he’s a brilliant old school butcher. He still uses old cuts that many butchers chuck these days. Pig trotters, pigs head,beef, pig, lamb innards which he makes stews, etc. all good quality perfect edible animal parts we just throw away these days. Just madness.

      Yeh beef Pattie is the real terminology. Now a burger is different because its the whole thing with the bun and salad that makes a burger but the meat on it’s own is known as a ground beef Pattie as the Americans call them.

    I tried these Gareth, nice soft texture, but tasted to me like an unseasoned meat loaf. Not good in my opinion. Sainsburys 4 fresh quarter pounders are nicer tasting and less expensive for four burgers. I know the comment is late, but I've only just tried them 👍👍

    I must admit it does irritate me when companies use, and therefore ride on the reputation of speciality goods. Wagyu (pron. wag you) literally means 'Japanese beef' yet it is clearly not. Just my bonnet-bee lol
    I won't go into the rice koji ingredient, but I suspect that that is the unusual background 'umami' taste you're picking up on. Kind of like Marmite, you either love it or hate it. Great review as always, but I don't think I'll be going with this burger lol.
