    In the UK we tend to use Matrices (matrix) for routing to PA / speakers. Especially in theatre, when you have lots of various FX speakers, large systems etc. Great video, getting back behind a CL board in a couple weeks and this was a helpful refresher

    Yamaha's routing is a little bit more complicated than other desks due to the utilization of Dante protocol - it's a networked protocol rather than a point-to-point one, so Dante channels on mixer don't necessarily correspond to the ones on stagebox.
    Since the mapping between the physical ports and Dante channels of the stagebox is fixed, the patching process has two steps:
    Step 1: Mapping Dante channels between the desk and the box - either through the desk's automatic config or via a laptop
    Step 2: Mapping input sources of processing channels and output destinations of mix buses to the desk's Dante channels.
    It can be like:
    "XLR In 6 of Stagebox No.2"->"Dante Output Channel 6 of Stagebox No.2"->"Dante Input Channel 14 of Mixer"->"Input of the Mixer's Processing Channel 38"
    "Output of the Mixer's Bus No.12"->"Dante Output Channel 18 of Mixer"->"Dante Input Channel 5 of Stagebox No.1"->"XLR Out 5 of Stagebox No.1"
    Technically you can also wire two stageboxes together and patch the inputs of one to the output of another so that they'll work like a snake cable. It's ridiculous but possible.

    Hi. I've been watching several videos on your channel, and your content is very helpful. I have a question, and I hope you can answer it when you have time.
    Using the CL/QL, is there a way for the sound of a channel/instrument sent to a mix to have no processing or equalization? In other words, for that mix, the sound of the sent channel/instrument should be the faithful sound that reaches the console.
    The question arises because, typically for live events, we take the sound of the instrument that reaches the console and equalize it to sound good in the room. However, when it reaches the musician's monitor mix, the sound they will hear is processed/equalized, and it may not necessarily sound good in their in-ears, or the sound they hear is not what the musician has equalized for their monitors.
    Thanks!

    • @KINETICPROFESSIONALS
      @KINETICPROFESSIONALS  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Ya, you can route the channel to the mix or matrix dry and not add any eq or processing at all.

      Hey man, I’m having trouble assigning reverb to input channels.
      I have mix 9 set up for fx.
      I have mix 9 turned up to 0 fb.
      In the rack on ch 1-32 I have gone into the rack and got the Hall reverb assigned from mix 9 and it’s sending to St 1 R and St 1 L.
      I have gone into ST/DCA fader bank and turned RT 1L and R up to 0 db. I get no reverb in the plug-in. It does not get a signal. In the mix/matrix fader bank Mix 9 is turned down. If I start turning it up, I get a feedback loop. What am I doing wrong, why is adding reverb so difficult?! Thanks!

    Question, For 10:10, is not assign to stereo or mono. So, if you send a channel to a mix, the channel itself stops beign stereo/mono automatically??? Also, since you change it to Omni 1, it means that the speaker is on output 1, correct? and by default, 15 and 16 are LR Stereo, that can be taken by any output, correct?

    • @KINETICPROFESSIONALS
      @KINETICPROFESSIONALS  Před rokem

      It does NOT Automatically stop being in the stereo bus. It’s always in the stereo bus unless you uncheck the stereo button on the channel. Correct , because I went out of Omni 1 it means I am going to a speaker . But not necessarily, I could be sending Omni 1 as a return on a channel or into some out board gear. That’s why it’s called an Omni. It’s a line level transport (bus). Stereo defaults to 15/16. But; any mix , matrix or stereo outputs can be routed to any omni. They are not fixed , rather user assigned.

      Use a telos . If it’s a convential rg11 style phone. If it’s a cell phone . Use a trrs break out cable . Take the line level headphone out from the trrs to the console , send back into the mic input on the cable . Depending on the phone you can use a usb interface.

    Hi
    2 questions:
    1. How can I activate a channel to be default? I´m using channel 1-8 and the rest is OFF. Nothing happens when I press SEL OR ON. How can I activate them?
    2. Is it possible to route my effects to any fader in my scene? So I don´t have to switch between my main scene and my mix(effect scenen)?
    I´m using a QL1
    Thanks

    • @KINETICPROFESSIONALS
      @KINETICPROFESSIONALS  Před 10 měsíci

      1. What are you using channels 1-8 for? Is your input patching correct ? Sounds like a patching issue.
      2. Yes. On the right side of the rack , where your effect exits. rather than an insert you can select a channel. Left side (effect input) can be an insert from something , right side (effect output / return) can be the insert return you used. Or , select a Chanel. By default it will patch the effect as an insert on the output side for you. You have to select the fx output and select your desired channel instead . This will will give you the wet effect on a channel.

      1. I´m choosing channels from the A bank and copying them to bank B, and then I´m mixing the concerts from thoes channels (in bank B). So if I have the drums from 1-8 and other instrument from 9-12, then the rest of channels are blank, and I don´t know how I just make a default channel. Is it not possible when I work in bank B?
      2. This makes sence. So I´m choosen the channel that I want to effect as the input and the fader where I want to control it as output?

    Wouldn’t be another way of 4th order routing without external cables be this route: input->mix->main->matrix? This would give you 4 (respectively 8) insert points.

    • @KINETICPROFESSIONALS
      @KINETICPROFESSIONALS  Před rokem

      Was thinking about this during an op today . Sure , but you would be limiting your self. If you return on a channel you can route or clone that new channel to many more places . I think it’s just a much more versatile way to route once you get to that level or routing.

    Good afternoon. I've worked with Yamaha consoles for about 10 years. I have been using in ear stations like Aviom and DAL over Dante. I switched to wireless in ears using the Aux Mix Sends in stereo with the Monitor Mix app, all pre fader. The issue is, when I mute a channel or a group, it mutes the aux mixes also. Is there's a way to keep the sends unmuted when it is muted on the FOH mix? it is puzzling as the band members area costumed to listen themselves at all times...

    • @mrjazzycharon2

      If you just want to remove a channel from the main mix, don’t mute it, but instead tap the “ST”-button to remove it from main bus.

    Is it other way to route mix or matrix to stereo bus, without using input and output ports?

    • @mrjazzycharon2
      @mrjazzycharon2 Před rokem

      You can route mix-busses easily to the stereo bus by simply tapping their “ST”-buttons just as with regular input channels. By doing so you can for example realize sub groups.
      But matrices can’t be routed to any other place, they’re always an endpoint.

    Whats the diff between DCAs and Mixes then?

    • @mrjazzycharon2
      @mrjazzycharon2 Před rokem

      A DCA is basically just a remote control for other faders. These other faders can be completely unrelated to each other, could even be inputs and outputs at the same time.
      A bus on the other hand is a mix and behaves therefore like an input channel, which can be routed to other places and processed with EQs, dynamics, inserts, etc.
      With a bus you could for example create a sub mix of the drums and compress that. Not possible with a DCA.
      With a DCA you could for example control the volume of multiple matrices simultaneously, each one connected to another speaker. Not possible with a bus.
      But there are also cases where both could be used, for example when you want to control the volume of the drums without the need of further sub mix processing and routing. Using a DCA in that case could be beneficial for example, because then you don’t lose a further mix bus for that.

    8:25 The 3rd most important activity on a mixer (in my experience), after input and main output is the aux sends (just as John demonstrates). Nearly every mixer with aux sends has a pre/post button. It blows my mind how Yamaha went to so much trouble to hide the pre/post option. No button anywhere in any menu or on any page of the built-in Yamaha manual (help button) allows simple access to pre/post. Plenty of information of how to use the pre/post page, but access is hidden.
    The ONLY answer is (as John demonstrates) to precisely double tap on a virtual knob at precisely the correct tempo. Too fast, too slow, or in the wrong part of the knob and you get nothing. Yes, Yamaha is a musical instrument company (with some motors), so it is expected you will eventually learn to play their mixers, but it would be nice to give the teachers a break with some of the fundamentals. 😁
