I don't think Gloria ever got the recognition she deserved for just how good a voice she has. She really does have such a beautiful, sweet voice but can also pour it on when she wants to!
She didn't and she has an amazing voice and one of the best female artists from the 80's

. It doesn't seem to be on anyone's "A" list for some reason. Just musically, it's a very interesting song to me. I'm not even sure what the accompanying plucked instrument is, but it's a great feel. When it has been one hell of a day, but that one song comes on the radio that turns your day around. Now, you want to spend a little extra time with the ones who you love, and you hope beyond hope love you. I was blessed with an amazing wife, two daughters, and one granddaughter. I still get in my car, and try to find that one song. Thanks!!!

This beautiful ballad was from the Let it Loose album. It's about the perspective of a woman who is in love with someone who doesn't feel the same. And she's unwilling to walk away.
The song peaked at #6 back in 87.
My favorite Gloria Estefan ballads, "Can't Stay Away From You" "I Want You So Bad" (this one was never a single but it's a great song off her Let It Loose album), "Anything For You", "Cuts Both Ways", "Coming Out of the Dark", "Can't Forget You" and "I See Your Smile"

I include Gloria Estefan among 80s pop royalty because she had so many top hits and her songs were full of soul.
This song came out when my high school sweetheart broke up with me after being together for 3 years. I dedicated this to him on the radio. He heard it and the next day at school he came up to me and told me that he loved me he just didn't want to be tied down anymore. We were so young. That was 34 years ago and I still remember the pain of my first broken heart ❤️

Falling in Love (Uh Oh) is a good forgotten one by Gloria Estefan.
Yes that is another great one that also gets overlooked a lot. It wasn’t as big a hit as this one but I love it and it has a nice emotional edge to it. Love love love Gloria!
Loved everything she did years ago. I met her once before she was famous, her and her parents were looking for
people for her band in Mexico. Only dancing during Cinco De Mayo, she stole the show even at that young age.
She does the fun songs like Conga then switches to the love ballads which she writes!
"Christmas In Your Eyes", "It Cuts Both Ways" and "Unplugged" are really deep songs which it takes two
or three times listening to really appreciate their depth and meaning.
I suggest switching off from a sentimental song followed by a dance so as not to get too melancholy.
I always wondered how she could write such sad songs when her personal life was so happy.
"Get On Your Feet" and "Live For Loving You" are great tunes as well! :)
I don't like "slow and boring" love songs but I have to make an exception for this. When the beat kicks in at 1:37 is great and that quick breakdown at 2:02 is just incredible. Listen how fast it breaks down to almost nothing and how smooth it does it. That's genius.
I remember being young in the 90's and hearing this song (and 'Don't Wanna Lose You') and really liking it just as a song and liking her voice, because obviously being younger I hadn't really experienced what she was singing about. But now I love it for completely different reasons, if you have ever been in this kind of situation then this song nails on just what it's like.
P.S. Another one, about the end of a relationship and wanting to hang onto it even though you know it's over, that I love is 'Dry Your Eyes' by The Streets.

Sad but beautiful. If you haven't heard Janet Jackson's "Come Back To Me" , it has a similar feeling. Not an everyday listen if it tugs at certain heart strings, but sometimes it helps to let things out.

This is my favorite ballad from Gloria but a close second is I Need Your Love which is not a well known song. I need your love is from their first English album and surprisingly never caught on as a hit. Definitely check that song out because it is a hidden gem.

When I was younger I used to think these songs were love songs, but really I was just a very weak and rather pathetic teenager chasing after someone who didn't want me.
I did listen to a lot of music like this in the 80's, it's like beautiful poetry that expresses everything you are feeling at the time, maybe there is comfort knowing you are not the only one
