This is a Motormouth couple car review of the updated 2022 BMW X340i. What’s new for 2022? The X3 M40i gets a redesigned grille, new LED headlights and LED taillights, the headlights have been lowered by about 10mm. It also gets updated front and rear bumpers, new wheel designs, tweaked exhaust tips and a 48 volt hybrid system. The interior also gets a refresh with a redesigned centre console featuring trim in high gloss black and new controls for the air conditioning system. BMW now offers an available 12” touchscreen and 12” digital gauge display, standard 10.25”.
This X3 has a 3L turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt hybrid system, an 8-speed automatic transmission, 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque with standard AWD. You’ll have to put premium fuel in this SUV. The X3 M40i gets 11.3L/100 km, 21 MPG city and 8.7L/100 km, 26 MPG highway. It can tow 4400 pounds and BMW offers a warranty of 4 years or 80,000 km/50,000 miles plus no charge scheduled maintenance for 4 years. There are a few tweaks like a redesigned centre console featuring trim in high gloss black and new controls for the air conditioning system. It comes standard with a 10.25” touchscreen and a 10.25” digital gauge display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a heated steering wheel, power front seats with driver seat memory, heated sports seats, leatherette upholstery and remote engine start. BMW now offers an available 12” touchscreen and 12” digital gauge display. Our test model has an Oyster Vernasca leather interior for $1,500 CAD and the Premium Package Enhanced with features like a head-up display, a Harman Kardon audio system, lumbar support, ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof and comfort access for $7,900 CAD. One feature that is missing is the wireless charger, it is no longer available due to the chip shortage. The Advanced Driver Assistance Package for $2,000 CAD which our test model has comes with traffic jam assist, driving assistant professional, active stop/go cruise control, steering and lane control, lane change assist, emergency stop assist, active lane keep assist, front cross traffic warning and cross-roads warning.

By contrast, I have always wanted carmakers to offer their big engines on base trims. I happen to prefer cloth seats. But, I struggle to find any makers that will give me the ‘big’ engine with cloth seats.
This is one of the reasons I prefer ‘off road’ pkgs because they will offer big engines with at least cloth inserts and smaller rims for a softer ride.

The X3 M40i is comparable or better to other vehicles in this class. You will find plastics at the bottom of all of them. The Porche is in a different class of prestige and price point. Once you lightly option even a base Macan you're in the 80k+ range. In addition, you have people who don't want leather. I have leather in my X3 but my wife preferred leatherette in her Lexus. The Leatherette seats in the 2022 X3 are from the 5 series and are very nice, I could live with them.

I’ve got the 2019 and the engine is unbelievable. The car itself is a joy to drive but has numerous electrical gremlins. Auto door opening with a touch works 50% of the time. Reverse camera works 50% of the time. Tailgate opens pretty much all the time with a swipe of the foot under the bumper but the tailgate also closes on its ow n and hit me on top of my head 3 times. I swore this would be my last BMW due to the gremlin issues but then I saw the new M240i with the same engine and couldn’t resist ordering it. I guess all the little problems didn’t add up to enough of a reason to leave the brand. I’ll live with them and enjoy the drive every time I get in the car.

Two days ago, I drove 350 miles each way leaving my home at 6:30 PM and arriving by midnight. The next day I left my meeting at 4:30 PM and home by 10:30 PM. Today this would be my car of choice, love this engine, we have a BMW with it, butter smooth, powerful, and sounds great. Looking to upgrade my car next year, let’s see what will be available in 2022. I drive a Q5 4 cylinders, it is a great nimble all rounder but was never sold on their dated V6, drove several times and didn’t impress. The plug in hybrids are popping up all over and seem to be a success formula between electric driving in town and low consumption long range choice with more power and torque than the i6. Not sure how nice the drive feels and if it feels heavy due to extra battery weight. Definitely not sold on full electric cars. I wish car manufacturers would build more regular hybrids, like Toyota, but with regular transmissions, CVT is a deal killer to me.

I’m glad to see that BMW did not adopt Mr. Joji Nagashima’s (BMW’s legendary designer) front end design. He was responsible for the replacement of the 7-series E38 model (what was to become the E65). The infamous.... ‘ZBF-7er’ sported the unloved buck-tooth front end grill (along with a dual (front/rear) iDrive system and retractable flush door handles). His design didn’t really work in the late 90’s. Though it does appear to be somewhat more appreciated in the current 3/4-series. This latest X3 does not share the oversized grill.... but it’s price is definitely oversized! This X3 is an absolute winner.... for the Genesis brand. Thanks for the video.

I just got mine 2022 bmw x3 m40i 5days ago, white/cognac. I've found out that its a very pleased to ride with and with enough power to use ;).
*also, i found out that sport engine exhaust sound is not an option in the system, i wish it can be turned on @ the comfort mode,
only 3 modes are on the list which is -
    1,depending on the driving mode
    2, balanced
    3, reduced(in a 2021 x4 m40i there are options to turn it on).
Also, at the front side of air intake part, the opening is only opened passenger side, the other side is covered with a gloss black plastic.( I've google b4 some1 says that's probably bcus there is only one small inter-cooler for the turbo "since it's not a twin turbo" or that is for the climate control system)
you will notice in the video @0:43sec. (not symmetrical not a big deal, the auto-side mirror folds not symmetrical as well LoL) .
With the new 48Vmild hybrid system, there is no Auto/start/stop button to turn off the ASS feature, so which means whenever you fully stopped car the ASS will be on kind of annoying.
The older cars I've drove with ASS feature, when starting after a stop, the noise was obvious to hear when the engine in turned on/ignited again,
on the new 2022 x3 that is not obvious but still you can feel it, a VVS vibration.

That’s so interesting cus I think they are doing that to their lower products? Cus we bought a nearly base X5 plug-in 45e and the materials leather and fit and finish, not a scratchy plastic to be seen anywhere. It’s so odd how the German brands, even Porsche actually especially Porsche, nickel and dime you for options to the point where the value cars like the x3 and maccan canout price the upper market models in options. But the problem is they won’t be worth the same in 3 years because all those features are still on a more value product. Also in the X5 45e you get this engine and plug-in hybrid for 70k so we drive on electric most of the time and then hit sport mode and do 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds then go back into hybrid mode and get 30mpg around town while the twin turbo inline 6 lies in wait until we wake it... idunno it’s a great deal and the air ride suspension goes from sport track hard to floaty supple cruise in seconds.

Always great reviews. One thing to consider when evaluating any of the cars presented (Genesis, Audi, Porsche Macan, Volvo, and the BMW) - reliability. Big difference there. Also - the cost of ownership. Porsche is great - but when it comes to maintenance - it will eat you up. Also - the 2017 Macan has a host of potential issues - timing chain cover leaks, failed transfer cases for example.) Not a good choice. 2019's or later are a much better option.

However the GV70’s, especially the 2.5L, are very hard to find. If you do find one the dealerships are charging $5K to $7k over sticker. So IMO Genesis is off the list. It makes no sense to keep plugging them as ‘best in class’ when they are not attainable or not reasonable in real world pricing. I’d like to see you call out the market adjustments dealerships are requiring when talking about vehicle comparisons.

I found a third dealership in the next county over who had a fairly large selection of GV70s. Long story short, I purchased a fully loaded GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige for sticker price ($64,045). I just hit 6000 miles and I love the vehicle.

I test drove both. I would recommend gv70 2.5t advanced or advanced plus(I forget the exact trim name, but the second or the third trim from 2.5t line)over x3 30i. If you wanna go for 3.5t, I guess you care about performance - I can tell you the performance is not at the same level (unfortunately I test drove gv70 3.5 right after I drove m40i so I was like it’s a hard pass the entire time) the market is a bit different at the moment, though. Normally you can get a great discount from BMW or Audi on m40i or sq5 but you can’t get much from genesis’s msrp, so the price diff is actually pretty minor especially if you lease them. However at the moment I think Bmw and Audi are not offering much discount, so they are almost 10k more expensive after tax than the genesis. But my point is, if you are spending more for a sportier trim, then I think money is not a huge factor ( all of them will need premium gas to fulfill their performance too) out of the cars you listed, the upcoming 22 macan s is actually the best deal ( although it is the most expensive one too)- the last gen of gas macan, equipped with the same engine from Audi rs5.

Apparently torsion struts were not installed on X3's and X4's assembled during the first week of March at the South Carolina factory. So now my X3 has been sitting at the dealership for three weeks while they wait to receive the parts...with no idea of how long this will take. Have you heard of this situation before? When it comes to performance and handling, nothing beats Porsche Macan S and GTS. Dime and nickelling have become a German premium brand tradition, so they will continue to offer leatherette as standard feature. When they usually offer leather seating surface and full leather seat as options. I actually prefer leatherette because its easier to maintain, without using leather conditioner every time when washing it.

LOL right. The Genesis cant touch the B58. The B58 is hands down one of the best engines ever made. And where are you seeing a similar spec'd 23 G70 for thousands less than a X3 M40oi?
