Someone needs to tell Loudwire the difference between a solo and a break.
Bromoteknada add drum fills to that list.
No kidding. And also the difference between a break and playing within the song along with the other instruments which was about half that list.
Moby Dick is definitely a solo
Bromoteknada tell me the difference please, i'm hungry of knowledge
To feed your hunger i'll give you an alternative point of view to what a break is :) czcams.com/video/HICxFSrjzN0/video.html Im not sure if break in the rock world means the same thing. I think a drum solo is when the other band members go to the bathroom. A break is a part of a song when the rest of the band lets the drummer take the spot light. A drum fill is something leading to next verse, chorus etc. These are just my interpretations though!
They should have called it: 15 songs where the drummer does some cool stuff.
Lol. Also breaks and solos are two different things
lol I just spit out the water I was drinking!
As a drummer I’m triggered, loudwire clearly doesn’t know the difference between drum breaks and drum solos
Julia Maria as a fellow drummer. Yes. This video really does piss me off too
Lol I was definitely thinking “This is a non drummers list for sure”
Drummer here as well and yeah I agree
I'm not a drummer but I'm with you guys I know a thing or two about waffles
does it matter we still get to see cool drum shit. does it matter if its soooo accurate?
"As Am I"
- Yoda (discussing dream theater)
Kane the Wrestler grossly underrated comment
I didn't even notice that 😂
The Neil Peart’s drum break from The Fountain of Lamneth is less iconic than the one from Tom Sawyer but way more impressive
Really all 15 could have been Neil Peart - doubt anyone would complain :)
I was thinking the same before the video even started!
That one's practically a solo.
Also from Bytor. Completely brilliant.
Natural Science is good too
I don't think Loudwire actually acnowledge what a drum break is.
The slayer „drum break“
Step one: *PLAY DOUBLE BASS*
drumbreak end*
That was garbage
I think they just put that there because it's really iconic because Slayer fans go nuts at this part of the song at concerts
For the most easy and simple that break is i think lombardo give it something special, like hendrix guitar riffs
When your list of drum breaks only has like 2 actual drum breaks in it
Its amazing how Baker could melt a solo when he's in his 80s. Fucking legend
Don't hate me but The Frayed Ends Of Sanity break is awesome
I was going to post this. I have always loved it.
@@grandwazoo1696 same
it's more of a fill but ok
Best thing lars ever done on drums
Lars did a solo in suicide and redemption
Drum solos are so underrated. If it's good it can hype you up so hard. It's just a vulgar display of power and makes you bang your head so hard 👌🏼
Isn't it universally recognized that the greatest "drum break" of all time is Phil Collins in "In the Air Tonight"?
You're right bro 👉
As someone who doesn't listen to Phil Collins, I would have disagree with you.
ugh.... it's so lame really..... but non-drummers seem love it... i don't get it
Huge difference between great and recognizable. Most recognizable, absolutely, but it's not the best or greatest by a long shot.
As a drummer I don't see why everyone loves it my personal favorite is yyz
The Rev always do what he does best, the drum breaks, miss you rev 😢
R.I.P. Rev
What band is the rev.
@@martymartin2894 Avenged Sevenfold
"That was a good drum break" - Beck
This man knows.
Lol
WHERE IT'S AT
Pick yourself up off the side of the road
Jack Mehoff I feel like making love to all the men tonight!!!
Toad: Has 15 minute drum solo
Loudwire: 15 gReATEst dRum bReaks oF AlL tIMe
I knew There Will be EYELESS!!!! Absolutely love the drums
Joey Jordinson is a fucking legend
Three nil is great too
@@zapatomic2988 yea :(
Danny Carey is so damn good
Price is Right kicks ass.
Too bad you can't distinguish any sounds form the dogshit recording loudwire picked for this video. Ticks&leeches is arguably the best drum performance of all time.
@@jalmarivartola2286 I saw tool in 2000 I was 16 N that's the most I can remember the drums were awesome he did a 10min solo was great...damn almost 20 years ago I getting old hahaha
Ikr
@@jalmarivartola2286 not sure if its the best of all time but thats your opinion
It’s always a pleasure to re watch the rev kicking ass
How can you not include "The End" by the Beatles? One of Ringo Starr's biggest showcases and probably part of the inspiration for some of the ones included on this list.
No one's going to acknowledge that they put "As Am I" not "As I Am" for Dream Theater 😂
eyeless is absolutely amazing on drums
yeah
Just waiting for the wave of metal elitists to come in and trash Slipknot
TheBritishMewtwo every slipknot song is absolutely amazing on drums
yes it is Aris Koumbanakis
My first thought for a "drum break" from Slipknot is the one after the first chorus in People=Sh*t. Jordison goes nuts on that one!
I couldn't agree more with Won't Get Fooled Again at number one.
YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!
Whoa, Geddy had a bit of a case of the cracks!
RIP 2 THOSE DRUMMERS WHO ARE RESTING IN PEACE.
I LOVE NOISE MAKERS🎆
Being an a7x fan for so long I somehow knew that beast and the harlot would be on this list but I was hoping they went with something less mainstream like Blinded in Chains or something.
buniezzzzz love the drums on blinded in chains
The Real Dr. Janus same. I love the outro so much and that badass bass line that just leads to an awesome groove at the end. CoE was a masterpiece as all their other stuff lol
Shit goes mainstream for a reason
buniezzzzz i was thinking of that double bass riff in blinded in chains
I thought a drum break is when no one else but the drums is playing for like five or ten seconds.
They're LIARS, that's why ! ! ! !
They need to learn the difference between a drum break and a drum solo. If that's the case where the hell is in a Gadda da Vida? That drum solo could embarrass this entire video.
THE REV!!! Beast and the harlot! Best one on that list 🤘
Uhhhhh no, far from be the best
João Vitor Weissheimer one of the few actual drum breaks on this list
Bruh, I'd bury your head in the sand with that one. LOL
The Rev had a couple of awesome drum breaks that could've made it on here. Blinded in Chains has two really sic drum breaks that are insane. R.I.P. Jimmy.
Phil Collins - In the air tonight
Not sure if I'd consider that a drum break, I think it's more of a fill than a break.
Go haze yourself for 8 minutes
Mike Tyson would agree, he loves that part
@Stephanie Logan A wedgie, that's the best you can come up with? Something tells me you were born before we landed on the moon.Go away, Boomer.
@@johnmitchell8487 the fuck is your problem, Dude? What difference does it make when people were born?
What????? What about “One”... the double bass break is iconic!
Joey Wright for them yes
Not just for metallic
hre2stay there’s other bands that play double bass besides Metallica .
b miller
But fuck me mate that break is heavy
That's what I was also thinking... Where is motherfucking *ONE?!*
btw. If they put Angel of Death in here Fight Fire with Fire also deserved a spot imo.
Ohh and Battery... I mean they have so many good drum breaks... could at least pick one of them.
I think "blinded in chains" is a better drum break by A7X
I know this is a break, and not intro video, but you can't beat the intro to "Over The Mountain" by Ozzy. Classic.
Terry Campbell 👍. My favorite drum ‘intro’ is Nicko McBrain on Where Eagles Dare. What a way to introduce the new drummer!
Honorable mention to Neil Peart for one little victory and Portnoy for 6 AM.
What other classic drum intros are there?
Little Dolls as well
Lee Kerslake RIP
BEST THUMBNAIL 🖤
The Rev :')
camila auhad hey someone else likes sounding the seventh trumpet! Neat.
ERIC GIBSON,khe?xD no c bro,disculpa...soy de Argentina
Ola hermana, saludos de Brasil! Finalmente alguem que também gosta do Sounding
Leandrometfan,hola (? Saludos a vos tambien ;)
camila auhad fuck i love your profile picture
Keith Moon was an amazing phenomenon! And his wild spirit was the inspiration for Animal the Muppet
2:17 RIP, Kobe Bryant. this drummer always wears Lakers 24 during Kobe's funeral.
I think he was born with a basketball jersey on
Rusli1659 LP Soldier I haven’t seen that part, but i know it’s ticks and leeches
@@unabxelrodriguez5627 ticks and leeches???
Rusli1659 LP Soldier the song is called ticks and leeches
@@jonahm3121 when it's released and the album?
Keith Moon and John Bonham in the top 2, where they deserve to be!
Jimmy The Rev!
Yes! So nice to see Keith Moon and The Who getting some love!
Where is 'In the air tonight'? I know technical its a very easy break, but it so iconic!
I saw Jimmy, I clicked
True
There's an old story about how, in one of the later Black Sabbath reunions, when it became clear that Bill Ward wasn't going to be able to play, someone suggested they get Ginger Baker to sit behind the kit. Tony reportedly replied, "I think we're screwed up enough."
But this video makes me wish they had, because Ginger Baker was amazing.
I thought i was going to see drummers breaking their drumset in this vid
While I agree that Keith is and always be the greatest drummer of all time I can't help but wonder why Alex Van Halen isn't on the list. The guy is a monster and way better than many you have listed.
@Tom Rafal Mine is and always will be Bonzo because he’s the one that got me interested in the drums and really trying to learn them.
Jimmy Owen The Rev Sullivan!
Melkin love him
intheiris intheoptic we all do
RIP the legend.
RIP The Rev

There is a difference between a drum solo and a drum break. A drum break is a short part of a song where the drum plays instead of the other instruments.
A drum SOLO is when the drummer goes to town in a concert with a focus on them over the other parts of the music, such as vocals and other instruments.
A solo can take the place of a break in a concert or live performance; however, they are not the same thing.
For example, what Tommy Lee from Mötley Crüe does on his rollercoaster in concerts is a solo. It is not a break. A break would be if in a Mötley Crüe song, Vince paused singing for a moment and Tommy played a few beats before Vince picked back up. Tommy is excellent at both, but THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
Blast beat @ 0:49
I want Samus to know this.
I think trivium's pull harder intro is one of the best drum intros..it kicks ass right from the start
Or the solo in entrance of the conflagration
In the Air Tonight?
Carl Stawicki
Ya! I mean it's simple but iconic.
Yeeeaaassss
My steering wheel hates that song.
Yes
Fuckin' A.
The Who definitely deserved the number one spot
I was getting real worried when it was already number 2 and Keith Moon wasn't showing
I was expecting to see Avenged Sevenfold’s ‘Blinded in Chains.’ But Beast and the Harlot is also great
👀
Best AX7 drum break, IMO, is from Darkness Surrounding.
I haven’t watched yet but I hope Angel of Death is on here lol
Yeah I’ve come to find out it was haha
Pander Bone it’s not
Pander Bone sadly it was
aaaaaand you're goddam right
Really? It was fucking bland all it was, was double kick, any metal drummer worth their salt can pause the song an double kick while nothing is going on.
I see the Rev and click immediately
Brendan Keller yeaaah!
Me too😂😂
Word
Same
Brendan Keller same here, he is in our hearts
I was ready to complain about a lack of Swim To The Moon, but there it is. Good shit.
really nice list
dayum
I agree with Rush but both YYZ and La Villa Strangiato have better drum breaks.
Agreed! I would have added Natural Science to that list aswell. Tom Sawyer's drum break is a classic but there are better drum breaks by Peart IMO.
I would have personally gone with By-Tor and the Snow Dog
Oh yeah i forgot about By-Tor for a second haha. Yeah the drum break in that song is infectious. Can't help but air drum when i get to that part
EzioMonty117 Oh shit yeah!! That's a great call!
Fountain of Lamneth anyone?
I can't believe they chose slaughtered over the drum fill from the transition in 25 years!!! Vinny's drum fill in that one is INSANE! Exclamation marks cannot stress this enough
If you’re going have a Led Zeppelin song on here, make it Rock and Roll, the drum solo at the end is awesome
If they were indecisive about it they would have to put every single zeppelin song on here because...John Bonham
I like the end on Army of anyone’s “goodbye” always gets me pumped up.
I love slaughtered. And gojira kicks so much ass. Mario is my fave drummer. And portnoy.
mike portnoy is insane
I was counting down the list thinking, Moon better be number 1. I was not disappointed;-)
Danny Carey's drumset looks like what Tool sounds like. Chaotic, but orderly.
REV!😍
Nishal Chakravarthy Used samples. Thumbs down.
Justin Orel Samples?? You mean triggers?
shut up Justin you hater
Justin Orel samples?
Honorable mention: "The End" by the Beatles
More like #1 The majority of the drummers (Keith Moon excluded) featured wouldn't have become drummers without Ringo Starr.
Lea Love Pretty sure Blake Richardson and Danny Carey would’ve been drummers without Ringo.
@@rythmicjea that is utter nonsense.
@@rythmicjea doesnt mean, it is the best. Maybe most influential.
nice to see some prog finally make a loudwire list
John Bonham, best drummer ever !
Dazed and confused,,love that drumming
John "Bonzo" Bonhan 😎👊
Peart
Other than Neil peart
Mitch Maher duplantier
But Mario Duplantier is a beast... #Gojira
Louis Aresi they never disappoint
Mario is the best lmao
I see the rev in the thumbnail, I have to click on the video
Lombardo’s face when he holds up his sticks lol
WE JUST LOVE TO WATCH AND HEAR REAL TALENTED DRUMMERS KICK ASS! LONG LIVE HEAVY METAL!
I hate not being positive but this list looks like it was put together in 10 mins .
Then make it
Lazy POS's.
It definitely was, it's a clickbait video so what do you expect? Bands that aren't a7x and slipknot?
I'm a simple man, i see The Rev, i click on it. Great list Loudwire. #foREVer
Holy shit, ginger has still got it! I hadn't watched the royal Albert Hall vids but wow, that solo was amazing
Define a drum break Loudwire because I was expecting drum heads to break
best concerts in the vid... slipknot download 09 and a7x live in lbc
agree
I'm sure that you never saw Black Sabbath in Paris 1970
Dream Theater Score is 100 times better.
Since you said "best concerts in the vid" I agree. But everyone knows Seattle '89 by Metallica was the best concert in history.
My favorite livedvd ever is green days b llet in a bible. r/roastme
foREVer
'Abre la Puerta' from andalusian progressive rock band called Triana with a break in flamenco style (bulería). It's awesome.
I saw the Rev. I clicked. Congrats Loudwire, your tactics worked
The break in radar love is awesome too
The Rev 💎
Oh...Loudwire! You missed the best and most obvious drum break of all: FRANKENSTEIN by the Edgar Winter Group!!
And grand funk T.N.U.C. DON BREWER
@Stephanie Logan you've been blowing my dog bubbles again shame on you
Muchas gracias loudwire
As Am I.... lol
Durp
"Take me as am I", wait what?
For those who understand, take as am i...
WAIT WHAT?!
For me is better The break Of The end Of Sacrifice Sons :P
Would have rather have seen "Honor thy Father" or "Awake"
What about the drum break on One
Helpless,from garage days revisited
The first time I ever agreed with a list. Yeah I know there’s a few that could be in or out or up or down but I like it anywho!
Wasn't expecting to see Swim to the Moon on here.. thank you
R.I.P Rev
Bury Me In Smoke... Its like 1 long breakdown
So many musicians in this video no longer with us, with most of them gone too soon. Rest in peace Jimmy and Vinnie.
I'm glad "As I am" with Portnoy was on this list. A perfect drum break to follow an amazing solo.
Who clicked because of the rev was in the thumb nail
People with poor taste.
Neggy everybody can have their own opinions on music.
Dave_Memestaine ...who?
Yeaaah
Dave_Memestaine not me
The Rev will always be my favorite although i think he had some better breaks and i still love the blinded in chains one dearly
I know this channel gives precedence to hard rock and metal and that's fine, I like all kinds of music. But The End by The Beatles really should have been on this list. That break is so good the Beastie Boys basically built a whole song around it.
I dont know why eyeless is always treated as "the best" drumbreak of slipknot... the p=s drumbreak is much harder and faster
that's more of a solo to me at least. then again they put Moby Dick on here which is literally a whole song of just Bonham going off, therefore a solo so idk
Harder and faster does not always equal better. Any drummer will tell you that.
Budgie - You are the biggest thing since powdered milk. First time I heard effects and panning used on drums
Why people hate the Rev. He was an insane drummer. Great musicians like Vinnie Paul, Neil Part, Protnoy, Ozzy etc appreciated him for his geniusness in writing song and drumming like that in such young age. He was very fast drummer too. He sang high pitched vocal part while drumming insanely fast
( Little Piece of Heaven, Critical Acclaim)
No one hates The Rev, people hate Avenged Sevenfold. Actually, those who hate Avenged Sevenfold usually respect The Rev. The same with Slipknot and Joey Jordison.
because his death came untimely and now in every drummer related video he’s rated above drummers who are miles ahead of him in terms of skill.so pretty much him being overrated due to his death, he certainly was a great drummer during his time but definitely not one of the greatest ever
ThaTruth223 But he is far greater than Overrated drummers like Adler or Jordison. They can't do anything except Double bass. The rev could do many things you know
and guys like tomas haake, mario duplantier, dirk verbeuren are far greater than the rev but yet he gets put on this pedestal because of his death
ThaTruth223 Nope Because He has lyrical and singing talent not just drums.
p. s - My fav drummer are Vinnie Paul and Protnoy
Good list! I really like the Edgar winter Frankenstein breakdown and thought it would be here
Moon looks like an accountant who just got behind a kit for the first time on a dare.
