Im not going to lie, I burst out laughing @ "Now I've done it." Brilliant idea to remove the screws on the friction disk. I have to do this tomorrow, and I wanted to get one more season out of mine. This 20" snowstorm proved me wrong. I wrap painter's tape around the rubber of the friction disk to keep it clean until Im finished.
We don't get many snow blowers here but I have had to do that on several rear engine Snapper riders before. Great fix and great informative video brother!
Thanks Hester, that was a very informative video. But, even though I have the tools, and the knowledge now from you - I am never taking mine apart. Otherwise, it will all end up in a box in parts.
I junked many a project when I was young thanks to taking apart without the knowledge of how to put back together. But those experiences ended up teaching me theory, reasoning and logic which to this day still help me on those very involved and intricate projects. Doubt has killed more dreams than failure ever will 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. Would a worn friction disk also cause a blower to not move quickly in the fastest position? I just bought an older Ariens and just doesn’t move quickly like my other blowers I’ve had in the past.
Hey you are great and the videos are very educational Can you help me with my reverse gear - it’s popping out the pin - the friction disc was just replaced ( not me ) and I believe the washers on the ‘ fork’ are missing - I can get those at Home Depot and throw them on to see if that resolves the issue . But I also wanted to ask you about the lever and the proper angle on it ? Can you make a video ( I do not know how else you can show this ) so I can compare and adjust in case I have any metal plate bent out of whack? Much appreciated ! God bless
Unfortunately I don’t have this machine anymore so I can’t really make a new video. Without seeing the machine and what’s happening it’s hard to say exactly what the problem is. If it’s missing the washers definitely start there 👍🏻
thanks for the video. helped me replace my disc which was worn but machine still doesnt move in reverse very well. could that be a drive cable adjustment or belt?
If your forward speeds are all normal, that would generally mean it is not belt or drive disc related, but rather an issue with the chain possibly being too loose?
Depending on who you ask, and who you order from, it can be called by either name. Drive disc/ friction disk. But the drive plate however is usually called a drive plate. Here’s a link to purchase where Stens calls it a drive disc 👍🏻 New Stens Drive Disc 240-394 Compatible with Ariens Most friction drive snowblowers, Snapper Most friction drive rear engine riders, Troy-Bilt 42010, 42012, 42033 00170800, 00300300, 04743700 a.co/d/3ijwMYX

We always hope to get “one more season” lol I like the painters tape idea! Definitely a clever way to keep the grease off the rubber 👍🏻
I learned the hard way about those washers on the slider. What a PITA! Thanks!
Even worse when you have big hands 😂

Thank you Dave 👍🏻
Thank you for such a good how to video
Glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻

Look at them Larry Hoovers!
😂😂😂😂

Definitely could, I’d also check the drive plate and make sure it’s clean and dry
I did this yesterday I wish I would have thought about doing it with out taking the differential off the gear selector (what a pain).
It’s definitely tricky, tight quarters and big hands are rarely a good combination 😂
yup. it worked!😀
Like a charm 👍🏻

Thanks for your help
Glad I could help👍🏻
Thank you
You are very welcome 👍🏻
So is it correct to assume it is better to clean and lube that shaft without messing with the shift fork? That looks like a pain to get together
Yes, unless you were having some other problem, I would definitely just clean and lube it👍🏻
Thanks for the great video, just watched it again. I have that machine, my disc looks to be in good shape but still good info to have

German Torque Spec 😂 I might have to borrow that
I love that one 😂😂
Good video but your replacing the friction disc, not the drive disc

Not correct Alan, they can definitely be called either one. Better stick to real estate and leave the small engines to him 👍🏻
@@garycrisafulli5434 It’s definitely an honest mistake, tomato tomahto lol
Nice video, thank you!
It's a thingamajigger what's wrong with you guys 😂
