    This was a helpful video. The belts were slipping so bad that the engine didn't even feel load and occasionally the belts slipped so much that the gear drive wouldn't turn with the slightest amount of resistance from ice build up.

    This is fine with a new machine, but what if turning the barrel also turns the threaded rod? Answer: the threads in the rod are likely frozen in place; this was my experience. I resolved this situation with some PB spray and two pairs of good pliers. Using a cloth, I protected the distal end of the threaded rod and gripped it firmly. This allowed me to break the adjusting barrel free with a twist.

    Sadly today I just bought a 920021 that cable with a drive cable that was to short. The snow blower just goes the second it turns on.

    I wonder if the comments regarding poor set up were due to purchases from big box stores? My Ariens was set up perfect by my small shop/dealer. I had to adjust a friend's unit purchased from a big box store. Ariens should require any business selling their product to have due diligence (yeah, I am dreaming).

    How do you tighten the gear bolt to the housing on a 5520 Ariens Snow blower. It hangs down and keeps allowing the component on the friction wheel to come apart.

    Follow up on comment below: went back to my dealer (last winter) and free of charge he gave me a set of composite skid shoes. What a difference!!! Machine works beautiful. Machine should have come with them to begin with!
    Wish they kept the old system. I have a brand new 2018 deluxe 24 with the AutoTurn clutch and it sucks! I’ve adjusted as recommended by the owners manual and their CZcams video and I am still fight to keep it going straight down the driveway!! Machine is really really nice except for the AutoTurn function. I’ll try to raise the scraper bar/ lower the skid shoes a little lower, but now I think I’ll be defeating the purpose of having the scraper and will be leaving more snow on the ground. Any ideas on this issue ?

      Paul I had the same problem with my 2014 24" Platinum. Resolved most of the wandering by changing to the composition skids and resetting the two halves and setting the skid bar to 1/8". Still jumps in the ruts but fine otherwise.

    I bought a Snow-Tek and the blower wanted to stay in reverse, even in front-wards drive. I adjusted the Sno-Tek , according to the manual, and each adjustment through-off other critical adjustment too far. Either, the manual is wrong, or the machine is out of whack. The machine is BRAND NEW from Home Depot. So, I guess Ariens suggests that I take it "In" to an authorized repair facility, so that I can be charged on top of the $650?

    I had to do this on a brand new Ariens (920021) I bought last year. Shouldn't this be done at the Factory? It also wanders forward when it is running and in idle position. Again, Shouldn't these adjustment be done at the factory?

    Please why do we need to place it in service position and removed the bottom cover after ajusting the first cable?!!! Another question, my machine is brand new and both cable are loose. Is it normal that when i push the auger lever down there is a KLUNG every time i use that lever? it really scared me. Thanks

    • @AriensChannel
      @AriensChannel  Před 5 lety +3

      Thanks for the question, Gaétan. Both cables will appear to be loose when the clutch levers are disengaged and will become taut when the levers are engaged. Both cables are set at the factory, but if they are not calibrated correctly, then it's possible they became loose during shipment. Additionally, you'll only need to place the unit in the service position to verify the distance between the attachment brake roller and the frame after completing the auger clutch adjustment.
      Finally, that sound you hear when engaging the auger clutch is normal. When the lever is engaged, it tightens the belt against the engine drive sheave that's spinning at about 3600 RPM. When that belt tension is applied, the auger drive pulley speed increases from 0 to 3600 RPM very quickly, resulting in that shudder-like noise.

  • @mikem3469
    @mikem3469 Před 3 lety

    How is the drive tension adjustment achieved after the friction disk has worn each season. The tension adjustment
    of having the swing gate finger touch front of stop hole is only applicable when a friction disk is new.
    Once the rubber starts to wear off what is the method to make adjustment. The shown method will not
    maintain a consistent tension between friction disk and drive swing. Note that the distance
    between friction disk rubber and swing plate will increase as the unit is used.

    • @AriensChannel
      @AriensChannel  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for asking, Mike. Once the friction disc wear is beyond the cable adjustment, the friction disc will need to be replaced.

    Is there some spray lubricant one can use to throw wet snow better without the chute clogging, not that I figure not to have some. Is there away to slow down the speed the snow thrower when traveling it move too fast for me even in the,lowest speed forward even reverse too.

    • @AriensChannel
      @AriensChannel  Před 4 lety

      Thanks for asking, David. We actually do offer a product called Snow-Jet to help prevent wet, heavy snow from sticking to your components and clogging your Sno-Thro. It's in stock at our parts store online: parts.ariens.com/11-oz-Snow-Jet-Non-Stick-Polymer-Spray-p/70709000.htm
      Also, there is no way to modify the speed of the unit other than shifting into the lowest speed with the speed selector lever in your dash panel.

    • @jtdundee
      @jtdundee Před 2 lety +1

      you can use silicone spray or wax and polish the inside of the chute to prevent a lot od sticking.

      Make sure 1st and 1st reverse are close in speed. If one is slow and one is fast, the position of the friction wheel can be moved.

    Could never understand why there's a spring that stretches on the cable when it needs to be taut to pull the mechanism to rotate the auger. I have to constantly adjust that cable.

    • @larryfine4498
      @larryfine4498 Před rokem

      The spring on the cable maintains a preset tension on the swing arm that enages the auger. If not there, you would cook belts. If it is constantly out of adjustment, it may be a low quality belt. The cheap belts will stretch well beyond allowable specs.

    Paid nearly $1,000 for Ariens Compact 24. Used highest octane gas available and two-year stabilizer. After 3 uses at end of season it wouldn't start. Ariens dealer said it needed a new carburetor and it wasn't covered under 3-year warranty because it was an owner gas error. even though I followed the manual to a 'T.' I had to foot the nearly $200 bill. Used it for a few minutes in foot high light snow a few days ago and it stopped throwing snow. It is not the shear pins so I assume it is the auger. I wrote Ariens a letter re: the carburetor issue months ago and they never responded. Their warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on. Do yourself a favor and buy another brand..

      Use ethanol free gas so it won’t gum up the carburetor, and or, use a gas stabilizer. Any brand of snowblower will gum up the carb, if you’re not careful. Good luck.

      @@AriensChannel I was able to figure out that the lower traction control cable goes to a stub pin on the lower left hand side of the Friction Drive pivot plate.
      Took awhile, this isn't clear from diagrams and nothing describes what or where it attaches to.
      As for how it came off to begin with, I am at a loss.
      From what I gather, there is supposed to be a cotter/hair pin and a washer preventing the cable eyebuckle from slipping off.
      Either the pin broke or wasn't present.
      I had to jury rig a fix to get up and running.
      Currently waiting on two pins and washers to come in, a replacement and a spare.

We include all adjustment procedures related to the auger drive and wheel drive for each of our Sno-Thro models in the operator's manual for each unit. All of those adjustments can be completed in your own garage, too - no special tools required.
      We only suggest taking the unit to the dealer for customers who don't feel comfortable completing the procedures themselves.
