By the way, Sergent Lincoln's actions seems to be a reference to SWAT 3. There were two missions that were exactly like this (the Airport raid and the City Hall nuclear device attack).
Yes, and Sovereign America was one of the main bad guy groups of SWAT 3 as well.
This is absolutely in Homage to SWAT 3. The quote at the bottom of the display is a direct quote from the SWAT 3 narrator when you complete the final mission of the campaign. I can still hear it in his voice when I read it!
Slightly straying from canon with the M14 since the campaign restricted you to mp5s, M4, and Super 90.
Unless it was a custom campaign with mods installed.
@@shtehfawWell, it's not exactly SWAT 3 word for word since apparently they have so much armor that even CAR-15s (aka the grandpa to the M4) can't pen then.
True. The SWAT 3 version of SA spelled "Sovereign" correctly, while the RoN version missed a letter.
Shayne, accept your fate as a ReadyorNot Loremaster.
He definitely is
THAT OLD ROOM THAT HAS BEEN RETAKEN BY EARTH... IS THE OLD MAIN MENU FROM ONE OF THE FIRST ALPHA BUILDS.. pretty dope
Careful that might be under NDA
It isn't, don't worry. People saw it during the PvP build
The alternate Vietnam War timeline is easily my favorite part of the Ready or Not lore...
It makes you wonder if we are witnessing a repeat of history when the backstory of the Neon club massacare is taken into account.
I mean it’s naked Ho Chi Minh City and not Saigon to northern Veitnam still won
Under the Lincoln display; "With the stoke of a simple pen - the belief that humanity is worth saving is realized. Through friendship and sacrifice, respect and compromise, we affirm that the power of life is greater than the power of death. With the threat of a nuclear winter behind us we move one step closer to creating a world committed to liberty, justice and human dignity." -Direct quote from the final cut scene of SWAT 3 campaign. I know this is already mentioned here, But I just love that the Lincoln display is a Homage to SWAT 3. I grew up playing that game and it forever re-defined the the law enforcement FPS genre.
This is really cool but did you know that LiveRat is actually a reference to DeadMaus?
I think it was LiveRat
Did you know deadmaus was a reference to LiveRodent
A few things I think should be added/mentioned:
1). Before/after some ops, the dispatch room actually shows some lore regarding an op. Neon Tomb, car dealership, and Sins of the Father were mentioned on those TVs
2). In every room you can zoom in a lot to read documents, monitors, etc. This includes a lot of minor things (dispatch has shifts written out, office room has list of terrorists from neon tomb, etc.,)
3). Alvarez looks to have served as a UK armored crewmember during an unspecified war(?). In his cabinet we can see a helmet that has a british flag on it.
Fantastic video, cant wait to see every mission investigated :D
Yep, the screen of the dispatch room show a lot of things related to past mission and the next mission.
probably bosnia serbia or iraq for alvarez depending on his age
W profile picture. For the Glory of our Country!!
Theres actually some evidence to pinpoint judge being a USIA sleeper agent, if you S Tier Cherryessa Farm, there is a piece of evidence in the locker room.
It's a transcipt from the USIA about a conversation between two people referencing someone named "Gamma One" who has been given a leadership positon in the LSPD (Possibly pointing to judge since he is the leader for D platoon)
And one of them says to meet another undercover agent within the LSPD to get more info out of said "Gamma One"
Cool things to take note from the station:
1) On the detective's room, there's a sticky note that says Qadamah could be USIA on The Hand investigation board. I would say that was just a reused asset until I realized The Hand's flag has an eye, an USIA symbol. Could be false flag stuff?
2) The PD station is based on LA's Union Station, so yes, it was a train station. Curious thing, the Union Station was the filming location for the LAPD headquarters interior in Blade Runner, so could be a cool reference to that, and perhaps a nod to the cyberpunk vibes this game's lore gives.
3) The USIA room is talked about on the Carrier's of the Vine S rank evidence, or at least another room like it (because well strange this is so delapidated).
4) The Lincoln display is a SWAT 3 reference according to the community.
Happy to see this series back, Are you going for those S ranks? Unfortunately juicy lore info is tied to evidence which you unlock via ranks.
If he doesn't go back to S-rank every case, he could still just look them up online from people who did and discuss the evidence that way.
I really hope he does, too.
RoN be like, Cyberpunk without the Cyber
WE ARE SO BACK, Francisco Laguna cant hide from us forever
I really, REALLY like the theme of the game which is now even more apparent in this new station.
The world of RoN feels almost pre-apocalyptic, crime rates are skyrocketing, not enough cops to save the city, the electricity/cleaning services going to shit, it's like a worst case scenario of all the fears and anxieties we are living today in the real world, turned up to 11.
Yeah, pre apoclaypse sounds so fitting, scary because of how realistic it its today if you live in big city America.
@@phantomlegend6167honestly it just seems like a normal Californian city
@@astartesfanboy5294 Uhhh, They don't have Nuclear Bombs and condemned dams.
This isn't Pre-Apocalypse, it's Realistic Cyberpunk, because we already live in a Cyberpunk Dystopia.
most importantly, terrible weather conditions
One of my absolute favourite little things in the station comes from the evidence locker: For Elephant specifically, the labels for the evidence boxes are heavily vandalised, implying that Tom Rhodes (the officer assigned to sealing much of the evidence we see throughout the game) lost his son in the shooting. I've also heard that the Port Hoken evidence has some interesting labels, but I've not gotten far enough in the campaign to unlock those just yet.
There's a literary connection to the Vietnam War stuff sprinkled in Ready or Not that may be worth considering.
There's a set of books by the author Kent Anderson, a literature professor and former Green Beret, who wrote two novels detailing the life of Sgt. Hanson, later Officer Hanson, a Vietnam MAC-V-SOG veteran and later police officer who served in Portland, Oregon in the late 1970s. The books detail Hanson's (figurative) rebirth in the jungles of Laos and Cambodia on raids across the border, as well as his self-actualization in the conflict. It's all rather Nietzchean and exceedingly dark. The second novel follows him dealing with the fallout of his past in the war as well as the unraveling reality of American social fabric in the 70s as a cop on the frontlines of a (at the time) very rough city.
What gives me pause is that there is a distinct scene wherein Hanson is being monitored by other members of his precint, sifting through classified DOD files of his time in Vietnam and trying to nail him for reasons I don't want to spoil. Those spying on him use a little alcoved computer room in the precint, with an old style reel-to-reel computer to gather his files, very similar to the one pictured here. I could see the original write-up of Judge's character bio, with the seeming blankness and indications of something larger but lots of obfuscation, being inspired by the narrative of Anderson's.
Given Ready Or Not's original vision as a Horror-Tactical Shooter blend, I could see the books serving as some inspiration to the team making the game in some capacity, even if it isn't as visible in the atmosphere of the finished product. Of course I'd be surprised if it was, Anderson's work is somewhat niche today, and when it was released it was widely considered too intense. And the dev team being that "literary" would be a bit of a surprise too. May just be coincidence, but I suspect otherwise.
The books are "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Night Dogs" respectively if anyone is interested. I read them both some time after discovering Ready Or Not, and they fit the atmosphere.
Never thought I'd ever see Night Dogs referenced anywhere. Picked that book up at a second hand book store cause I generally like any cop/detective books, and only now are the similarities dawning on me after you mentioned it.
It sounds like they wrote in a north hollywood shootout around the time period of the real one as well.
The mention of mp5s and car-14s being ineffective during the airport raid is similar to how police found their 9mm, .38's, and .44 specials, ineffective during the north hollywood shootout in 1997. This led to police departments everywhere issuing rifles to officers.
The airport raid clearly had a similar effect even with 5.56 rifles. That would explain why the department has .308/7.62x51 rifles available for their swat teams and the m14 being the memorialized rifle.
it's also a direct refernce to SWAT 3
most importantly, the new police station is equipped with a WORKING pong arcade box :)
it's somewhere down at the training facility.
Works both single and multiplayer
shit! i commented to early again...
The stories on the memorial makes sense. LSPD are always up against over the top aggressive terminator suspects with perfect aim.
The M14 and D platoon is totally a reference to SWAT 3, nuclear weapons only confirmed my suspicions as well as the LAX (Aka, LSX) Tower being mentioned. One of the most intense missions in the game, not to mention the MP5 and CAR-15s being weapons issued to you in game. I love it, it shows quite a lot of love for the original SWAT games!
I have reason to believe that laguna may very well have been a former vietnam private who earned a medal of honor in the line of futy, and later on, becane part of los suenos' police force, earning medals for outstanding work during his time im the force. Later on, retiring with commendations. Thats my best guess.
Ooooor it’s just a pre rendered asset the devs bought
@@ntfoperative9432It could be, but the fact they would retain it in the final release is bizarre if that's the case. Fans have brought up Laguna to the Devs before and haven't gotten an answer.
@@ntfoperative9432its...its on the statue. Not just on a wall framed. I think, if this is indeed a pre made asset, that they are actually choosing to use it intentionally.
@@Zynet_Eseled Their copy/pasting of assets in some areas is annoying though, the Chief has multiples of his 1999 Shooting Competition Trophy in his office. Introduces an uncanniness to the environment.
The board at 4:25 suddenly becomes worryingly important when you play the last mission...
cant express how excited I am for these videos, ever since 1.0 dropped I have been scratching for my fix of shayne lore lol
The map being of Ho Chi Minh City basically confirms the US still lost the vietnam war in the ready or not timeline the city used to be named Saigon before the communists won the war
I am excited about all the inbound 1.0 videos 😎
ITS YOU!
@@pja6476 yoooo!
I think downstairs where the training facility is, there's a strange room with a prisoner in it. That is the only place other than the shooting range and the training room where you can aim your weapon. At first I thought this was like a hidden quest, and I would get secret dialogue if I arrested the guy but nothing I happened. I then shot him, and reported it, and got -150 points for unauthorized deadly force. Might've just been a glitch but interesting nonetheless
That's likely a suspect apprehension training room.
Nope, this is just how it normally works and worked before.
That's part of the training center, meant for non-lethal and arrest training (but most players just torture the poor guy)
There’s a high likely hood that the PLP is based on the SLA from IRL LAPD SWAT history
Babe, wake up! Shane is uploading another RON lore analysis.
Great video! It should be noted that the design of the LSPD takes a lot of influence from LA’s Union Station imo. The tile work, architecture and exterior design looks a lot like union station. It even has the same general location, given its perspective on the game’s version of downtown LA’s US Bank tower
YES GODDAMNIT YESS YOU ARE BACK TO RON AGAIN
Thank you for the awesome birthday present! I've been starting to play the missions as best as possible and it's awesome to see the upgrades to so many of the mechanics and atmosphere with the release of 1.0
Maybe a coincidence, but the dates listed at 4:14 are also very similar to Sierra Entertainment's SWAT (sub)series releases - late 1995 to late 2007. Would be cool if that was some kind of similar homage too, and perhaps the dates better coincide with a wider release date of those titles.
someone else in this comment section said it was a very direct reference to SWAT 3
I was waiting for this video! Thank you :D cannot wait to see more of your throries!
shayne please shut up uploaded, my humanity has been restored
Hell yeah I've been waiting for you to dive into the new lore man, love your videos!!!
There's a guy named Rimmy DownUnder and he did something where a free world re-entering of the US Army into Vietnam and I feel like it would be in this universe
BEEN WAITING for you to start the new 1.0 lore.
Woo more LORE!
I'm in love with history so I was able to find out what year that usia setup was possibly set up the mekong river was a river in Vietnam most notible for the tet offensive in 1968 simple history has a good video on that though my source is war of the rocks
FINALY! the lore iv been waiting for from the channel i wanted to see it on!
I feel like the "condemned dam" might be a reference to the St. Francis dam failure. And the power outage poster is just a reference to real-life LA's problem with rolling blackouts.
PLP sounds like a lot of the crappy commie terrorist groups that were around California in the late '60s through the '80s. Some of those groups were just straight-up communists, and some others were marxist racial identity groups. PLP makes me think of the SLA for some reason...
The fire extinguishers in the station are fun. There are three, and on the placards telling you what kind of extinguisher and what to use it on, there's a unit number. One is, Unit #69, because of course. Another is Unit #731.
I do not know if you played SWAT 3, but the PLP was a terrorist group composed of ethnic Russians who strived to re-establish the Soviet Union during the in-universe 2005.
yeah that was a SWAT 3 reference
Oh no... 731....
Really excited to see this series come back now that the game is on 1.0! Hope to see more soon!
The evidence locker has specific dates for each mission so thay could help with more lore videos
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS HE IS BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Hey shayne, im probably wrong but i think liver4t could be deadmau5 😮
The lore man is back!
Relatively new viewer here and I got a tip for you. Research the "Nuclear Boy Scout." There was a kid who made his own reactor. He's the reason why it's hard to do so now.
He never managed to make his own reactor, that's not true.
@@yeetis4527 I thought he did. Oh well
@@LegendStormcrow Almost, from what I was able to gather but I got no clue about how easy it is to make a nuclear device.
@@yeetis4527 Not as easy bow, because of him 😂 But yeah, it was mostly due to social engineering that got him what he needed.
@@LegendStormcrow lol that's awesome, he didnt have any bad intentions from what I was able to gather too!
I love your content man and I hope you get more recognition for the quality you put into this stuff!
Really looking forward to see you comb through the 1.0 update, love the vids
Im sure the francisco laguna is there to troll now lol
Let’s go great video
Just started watching your content. My favorite part is when your teammate in the intro clip gets smoked 😂
Yeeeeeees! This was the video I was waiting for! And I can't wait for the series to continue! 1.0 fed us good on lore.
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees, havent even watched yet
YES IVE BEEN WAITING LETS GOOOOOOOOO
By the way, I just wanted to say you have one of my favourite video intros, it's so iconic and simple and even the music is perfect. Good Job Man
Subbed, love this series!
Considering how detailed they've made the precinct, I would guess we will eventually see it attacked and need to bring order to chaos and save hostages. Lots of grim deaths to be sure, and holding cells emptied as well as evidence room looted. Probably also spiteful vandalism of e.g. the M14 case and memorials. Having the player experience this map every time they load up is to build an emotional connection. Perhaps some of the NPCs there will be fleshed out story-wise as well. Maybe the chief Alvarez is corrupt and has been allowing Los Locos Del Pacificos to run their drugs under the city's noses. Police departments are always a target for organized crime, be it through corruption, bomb threats or attacks. It would fit into the bigger picture of a dying city.
In the evidence locker, there are dozens of boxes that you can look at the evidence inside of. Some of it is for missions in the game, others for lore.
Was thinking about you making a video like this yesterday and here it is
it really feels like they are making something with all these Vietnam references, I hope its actually something, rather than just copied assets. That secret room makes me think its going to be real.
3:24 damn, a nuke, the hell is wrong with this alternate universe, maybe losing Vietnam was good… obviously
it's a SWAT 3 reference, that little memorial was actually a run down of the final plot parts of SWAT 3
@@themanformerlyknownascomme777 never played SWAT, but that’s a cool reference, seeing as how this game is definitely inspired by it
Hell yeah! Can't wait till you get to Carriers of the vine and the reworked port Hokan
The PLP maybe based off of the symphonies liberation army that was a group of people who fortified a house in La which led to the new form SWAT to raid the house later becoming a successful mission for the SWAT team
Been waiting for this
YES I BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, WE ARE SO BACK
Waiting for this video the day of the update, didn’t disappoint 🙏🔥
The legend is back!!
At this point it seems like Void is adding Francisco Leguna to things just to mess with you specifically
lets goo my favorite series is back!
BABE WAKE UP, SHAYNE IS BACK WITH RoN LORE!!
The Sovereign America Militia is probably the dudes we saw in the old version of carriers of the vine
I noticed that most of the cop cars are covered with cages and fences to show how brutal it is to be a normal police officer in unforgiving city
this feels like a hbo miniseries, love it
You should check all the evidence in the evidence locker. Some of the stuff you get after carriers of the vine mission (S rank) implies that Judge was set as a D-Platoon team leader by the USIA
YEAJ YEAH EYAHYE YTEAH FINLALLY FINALLY
Who's pulling the strings behind everything? It's of course Sgt. Francisco Laguna
Do you think there will be an expansion with Vietnam levels? Modern counter terror ops on Vietnamese maps sounds uber-fascinating. Also, been hoping they give us new locations outside of Los Suenos so something like this would be very welcome imo!
no
Don't you just hate it when you accidently discover a CI- USIA Secret Observation Outpost from the 70s while refurbishing a Police Station? smh
How I missed those RoN videos
1:53 are we not going to mention that someone sprayed F*** Cops on the billboard facing the Precinct entrance? Now that's a gangsta move
Will we get new RoN lore videos from you, now that 1.0 and the commander mode has been released?
Please find FISA's Detail more.
I want to know more lore about them.
What’s your take on the new ai personally I have mixed feelings because it’s both amazing and a huge improvement over the old AI but I think the SWAT and enemy AI was switched by accident
LETS GOOOOO!!! MOAR SHANE!!! MOAR READY OR NOT!!!!!!
If some place claims to be "A city of dreams" in video game, be sure as hell it's a hellhole.
the city blackouts makes me think that Ready or Not's USA is turning into modern South Africa.
As a Turkish. İ am happy that you are aware of my countries problems with the communists.❤
new stuff in the evidence locker since the home invasion update
I can't wait for Francisco Laguna slowly disappear from the game, only to become part of the Ready or Not iceberg due to a single easter egg somewhere in a single level
YESSSSSS 1.0 LORE
The story seems to have some similarities with blood meridian, even having a character named judge. You are also a group of lawmen trying to bring order to a very dysfunctional society.
Let's GOOOO. Environmental storytelling is my favorite kind, because the writers and level designers have to both want it
2:03 the City needs its own video.
OHHHH POOKIE ILY!!!!!
Have you read the evidence item titled INSURANCE? It gets weird. Really, really weird.
Hey man! Is it ok if I use some of your cinematic shots of the police station for a video I'm making? I'll give you credit of course. I tried getting the freecam mod to work but am having trouble.
we're so back
bro its "beginning"
Some lore here contradicts previous lore. Sergeant Lincoln is mentioned as having been presented a reward by the 43rd president. Since that was the actual number president we where on in 08, that makes that magazine article mentioning 52 presidents much weirder, unless in this universe the US has had like 9 presidents since 2008.
The LSPD always reminds me of the GTA 5 LSPD
great
We're off guys!!!
