That plane will clean up no worries. Get yourself some wire wheels for the drill (pillar or hand) and that will clean up the rust pretty well. Then work your ways up through the grits to clean up the body.
There's loads of videos out there, take your time, clean up each part - wire wheels are great for the screws, etc too. You want to make sure the frog is flat and also where the cap iron meets the blade. Also worth getting a diamond stone for the blade if you don't have one in my opinion, the faithful double sided one has always served me well.
Bit of advice when flattening the sole of the plane. Make sure it is put together, with the blade installed and backed off before trying to flatten the sole. That puts the body under tension and means it will be flat in use. Also worth putting some sharpie all over the sole when flattening it as that will show you the high/low spots.

Great looking piece of kit. Not sure it would replace the grooving blade on my table saw but every now and then it's really nice to get out an expensive feeling plane or hand tool. For me it's more about pleasure than function and I am sorely tempted!

had been looking at thsi and was in two minds, but does look OK. Would take out the majority of the waste with a chisel and then set your router plane to the required finihsed depth and just use it to tidy up.

Looks like a great little plane! I think I would change out that plastic handle for something a little nicer for sure. Does the lock go onto the back of the blade at an angle or is there a slanted block inside that goes against the blade?
With the restoration stuff, it’s easy to get addicted to doing them I found, I love restoring old stuff. I did a video on a rust remover that’s very good, but grab a wire wheel for the pillar drill. Pull everything apart and go over them with the wheel, then sanding grits

Ok So i am no wood worker however if you turned the adjuster screw once and not three time you would take of less and planed to the centre of the wood you might not suffer from blower out wood … maybe… or am I wrong sir ?
Also if you used a second peace of wood you might not have to fight to keep the router plane …
