Fleck was such a huge part of the success of Texas this year. Her defense and aces pushed the team to the championships. Liberos do not always get the acknowledgement they deserve.
She was the missing piece.
I agree. Fleck's defensive play was just awesome to watch. Of course the defense also had solid help from both Halter and Akana. I am stoked to see how Emma does next year, as she just might be the next Zoe.

Such a zap of energy, she's so good. Even rooting against this team (solely because of the annoying chant the fans do), I just knew anytime a ball went anywhere in her vicinity, no matter how difficult, there was a 99% chance she would get to it (unfortunately for me).

@@mate5171 of course Eggleston had a major impact offense wise, but without Fleck picking up the glaring lack of defense Texas had they would not have won this Natty. The evidence is the past 3 years that even though Eggleston was there they got so close but could not finish
Zoe was the X-factor the Horns needed to get over the hump in 2022.

I have been watching UT volleyball since the program started. I have to rank Zoe as the best I have ever seen!! She is fantastic.

Reminds me so much if Morgan Hentz. Though I do believe Hentz is just the greatest of all time, fleck is definitely one of the best in college history.
If fleck had started at Texas all 4 years, she would’ve had the better resume. Fleck is a better passer than Hentz. But defensively hentz might be tiny bit bitter.
@@Blickblickyyyblick74 don't agree necessarily lol PAC 12 is a great conference, and she was there when they had that wonderful 2019 class and actually beat them w/o plummer on the court of course. Moving conferences is not really an excuse lol, but she has always been right up there with Hentz. I do agree she might have the upper hand in passing, but Morgan's defense is just so unreal and unmatched. I've also seen fleck struggle in serve receive in this her 5th year, same as Hentz. Some of the best passing libs I've ever seen or corn huskers Kayla Banwarth and Kenzie Maloney. To put it into perspective, Zoe fleck ammased 1905 digs in her 5 year career, meanwhile Morgan Hentz holds the PAC-12 record with 2310 digs in only 4 years. "Tiny bit better" is an understatement.
@@oscorpio1365 what does pac-12 have to do with this conversation ? 🙄 I’m comparing schools. Fleck was not even offered a scholarship from a power 5 school. Walked on at UCSB and made her way to UCLA on scholar playing libero. For her 5th year ucla didn’t have a scholarship to offer her so she came to Texas. Obviously with a name like Texas she gained over 50k followers on instagram in a season and become a 1st team all American as a liberos. She would’ve definitely done all of this sooner if she started her career at Texas (a top school/ contender like Texas). Schools play a huge role into resumes.
I’m sorry, what games did you see fleck struggling in this year ? Fleck didn’t struggle passing lol, she struggled passing the whole court YES (because she’s amazing). That just speaks to how great of a libero she is because of how aggressive she is in serve receive.
Also let’s be honest college volleyball has evolved since Morgan hentz was playing even though it was just 2019.
Outside hitters aren’t hitting the same shots, they’re tooling hands more, jamming the ball, taking the setter out first by making the libero play second contact MORE , and the passing/ serving is overall ALOT better.
Which is why Morgan hentz has struggled professionally. She’s use to the 2016-19 colllege vb era where they just hit at liberos when out of system. She was amazing defensively.
I still give fleck the edge over her though just because flecks passing is just as insane as her defense. And professionally everybody knows it’s passing> defense.
@@Blickblickyyyblick74 I just simply disagree lol, I just don't think transferring conferences has anything to do with it. If anything she should've gotten way more digs in the big west since they aren't a "tough" conference... Simply put, even if fleck is playing during a really good time for women's volleyball the stats do not lie and 2,300 digs in 4 seasons (given this was literally just 3 years ago) is amazing, and u act like she wasn't going against some of the greatest players of all time like Khalia Lanear, Lauren Carlini, Dana Rettke, Samedy, Mikaela Foeke, Lauren Stivrins, Yossi Pressley, Dani Drews, Logan Eggleston the list goes on... who are all smart crafty players and she consistently put on a highlight show no matter who was across the net. You can say fleck is a better passer than hentz but comparing both of their 4th year stats... Their reception to reception error ratio is the same. We can agree to disagree but statistically Morgan Hentz takes the cake. The TRUE GOAT.
@@oscorpio1365 I don’t care what the passing stats say. I’ve watched enough volleyball to know Hentz was not an elite passer and that’s exactly why she can’t take the job away JWO now. Her second contact isn’t elite either. Fleck covers an insane amount of court in serve receive, something hentz has never been able to do. And idc who hentz was playing against, volleyball is different now, they aren’t just hitting at liberos. Fleck> hentz. So don’t be shocked karch gives that jersey to fleck over hentz.

@@psymompa Agreed, I thought both libero's did a fantastic job and to see not even one of them get recognized was a let down. Defense wins championships. Plenty of good teams this year had the offense, especially in system, the big question was if they had the defense.

I’m a huge simp for any libero.. if I see a libero or if you are a libero I will love you! (On other teams 😅) however Zoe fleck definitely caught my attention in a different way and she has inspired me so much, what a powerful libero.

Zoe Fleck vs Morgan Hentz...Clearly...Both have different styles of playing libero. However, the question is...Can Zoe Fleck make it onto the National Team? Since Morgan Hentz already claimed the 2nd string libero position as we all know Justine Wong-Orantes is the current starting libero for the National Team. Only time will tell for Paris 2014 Olympics.
It all depends on which one is the better setter.

She has expressed the desire to win an Olympic gold medal. Karch would be glad to hear that as the last Olympic team did not have a lot of depth at libero.

I find it weird that they allow Liberos to serve in the US but in professional leagues and tournaments internationally they can't.
Fleck is good but she can’t hold a candle to Hentz

To see real liberos in action, please watch last year's National Championship. The Badgers' Lauren Barnes was AMAZING, plus she was up against Nebraska. Barnes overall digs last year were at 531. The former UCLA libero was at 442 this year. Nice, but not AMAZING. :-)))
Barnes had 4.35 digs per set in 2021. Fleck had 4.42 in 2022. Barnes only had more digs because she played more matches. The former Minnesota DS was never a great passer and has not played professionally since her graduation. Fleck is a great passer and will play pro. Barnes was a good college libero but comparing her to Fleck is not a good way to prove that.
@@chelseabustamante3104 Sorry. Playing in the Big Ten is MUCH more challenging than The PAC 12 or the Big 12. Ask any coach.
Also, we loved playing against her because she could not pass off of Dana, Grace, Devyn, Anna, Jade, or Julia. Just watch the UCLA vs. Wisconsin match. It's great~!!! There is no way she could handle Tijana Boskovic (Serbia), Eda Erdem, Ebrar Karakurt (Turkey), Brigitte Herbotts (Belgium) or Paola Egonu (Italy) to name just a few of the leading international hitters. She just isn't there--yet. The media has driven the Fleck thing and it makes us laugh in the Big Ten. :-)))) Have a nice week!!! You realize, too, that Louisville was off that night. The Texas vs. San Diego meeting was not much of a match. The Pitt vs. Louisville match wore the Cardinals out. If you have played or coached, you know--if you are honest--what I mean. :-))))

Is that the same Big Ten that had zero teams in the FF? Ask any coach like Kelly Sheffield? He liked Fleck so much he tried to recruit her twice! Barnes would've been a DS again just like she was behind McGraw and then Clark. Barnes was a nice college libero but she was never great and she'll be watching just like you when Fleck is playing for USA. I don't expect you to understand. You showed your ignorance with your embarrassing mistake in your first post (4.42 > 4.35). I'm surprised you're still replying.

@@patrickt.randolph7043 Considering no Big Ten team made it to the Final Four, that's a lot of denial. But Louisville must have been off that night. Or they were off the previous match when they went down to 5 vs Pitt. Or the alignment of the moon was not right . . . sure if you want to conjure any excuse. Texas was not perfect but they beat every team they needed to beat including Louisville.
