I like Cesar showed mercy on the other guy he knows he didn't abuse the apes
Yep
He learned kindness and compassion from Will and Charles.
Well he also didn’t mean to kill malfoy

Wait malfoy?
I remember the first time I saw this. The theater was chuckling from the reference. But the moment Caesar said "NO!" The entire theater went dead silent. Amazing moment.
what reference?
"Get your stinking paw off me you damn dirty ape"
Google it.
That's fucking badass.
To the older ones except that time, it was an ape saying it to a human saying "Get your stinking hands off me you damn dirty human!"
futureblue49 mine too. the only voices were some teens in the front row saying "Oh shit."
I absolutely loved the Gorilla's reaction to Caesar saying "No". One of the strongest and most feared animals on the planet, an Alpha of its species, and it was in shock of what Caesar had done.
Well, in the context, Caesar essentially just wielded the power of a god.
@@philipgood5041 From the Gorilla's point of view, Caesar literally spoke as a God.
Bondo Chimpanzees have faced off against gorillas. Gorillas dipped. Of all the chimps, the Bondo chimp is the largest, if not greater or equal to the Gorillas.

Cornelius from Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1973): "He did not grunt. He articulated. He spoke a word, a word which had been spoken to him time and again without number by humans. He said: 'No'."
It took 38 years to finally show this moment on screen.
I was searching for this comment thank you 🙏 was wondering if anyone realized it.
This scene has its own fanbase.
And dear God did it live up to the hype. Unfortunately I have yet to find an edit that puts Cornelius' speech as voice over with Caesar saying "No" to replace the no in the speech
Well, the original series did show this moment: Milo, who was by then known as Caesar, did in fact say "No!". So we did see it.
But this did it better, hands down
I didn't know about the scene and never watched that, but now that I have seen it, it isn't even the same story. The ape they're talking about was called Aldo, not Caesar, and the story indicates that apes evolved by being pet/slaves to humans for 500 years, then revolting, not due to some pandemic virus.
The way he says no the second time is terrifying.
As if the first time wasn't scary enough?
i always thought he said "NOW" the 2nd time like to say lets do the plan!

Dude, that’s exactly what happened in the movie theater I went to!
The moment Caesar had spoke the entire audience went to complete silence.
I think another reason why this scene is so badass is due to that fact that apes are so similar to humans. The biggest thing that separates us from them is speech so seeing an ape shout “NO!” kinda breaks the barrier of us from them so it’s super shocking and surreal.
speech is far from what separates us from them. A bunch of animals can say stuff that they hear us saying. The barrier between humans and animals is the ability to philosophy (if a ape can do sign language it's because he's trying getting a reaction he learned he would get from a human if he did said sign. It doesn't mean the ape knows this sign can mean a whole phrase to us.)
@@AbandonedQuiche many humans are just as barbaric as apes in a sense that they dont care what actions they perform as long as it benefits them. Philosophy isnt a thing only found in humans either. Many animals have a sense of justice, forgiveness, and have high emotional intelligence. What animals truly lack is the ability to exchange their thoughts with others. That’s what’s allowed us to keep on growing and build a civilization. So in a sense, if animals were able to communicate on the same level as humans, they would be on the same par.
Jordan Davis 19 Them breaks of
@@AbandonedQuiche no, apes have used sign language to express their emotion like when koko the gorilla had her kitten hit by a car and the keeper told her, koko signed sad, bad, sad, bad and later could be heard crying. Some people think they only do it for food but they've done it to talk aswell it's just like any other person who was born needing to learn sign language apes are some of the smartest creatures in the world and they communicate with each other all the time they're very social animals they're even learning to use tools in the wild
@@SKIT..CENTRAL I hate to be that person but Koko (as well as other apes) couldn't really use sign language, like not use it as a proper language, I suggest a video on here called "Why Koko (probably) couldn't talk" by Soup Emporium, it goes more in depth.

In what world is this line underrated?
How is this underrated ? That's the most iconic scene from one of the most beloved trilogy of this century.
underrated?
duh all the people admire that and even consider as an iconic moment of cinema
True. Just ask Darth Vader
You can feel the power behind that "NO!" Not only was that his first word, but that was him finally able to express himself. Express how he was tired of being treated like an animal, a pet, tired of being tazed, tired of living in a cage.
Yeah, it's fitting that the first word spoken by an ape is a defiance to human control

@@bboynava1812 i didn't notice
I think Buck was inspired.
I remember when I first saw this movie and the look on bucks face was one of the greatest and most natural cinematic recordings of admiration/fear/awe. In his eyes Caesar became a god.
I actually think that “No” is one of the best moments in cinema. His first words and the evolution of his intelligence throughout the film. The flip on the original film. The moment is captured so perfectly.
And it a moment of defiance against abuse- how can you not empathize with him? With his kind? That moment was about hope- he became a superhero and a leader for the beaten and the damned.
The writing deserves some serious accolades.

@@mustafaaljumaah72 yea.. we know.
I think what really makes Caesar saying “no” amazing and jaw dropping is 2 reasons
1.) We are the only animals that can speak, who have a language we can use to communicate and view as us having an intelligent brain, what separates us from the animals in our world. To see that be usurped and even challenged is beyond our imagination.
2.) The word “no”. No is a strong word, it’s a defiant word to a lot of actions we wouldn’t want to do. Caesar saying no symbolized in conjunction with the first reason that no he wont let go, No they are not to be treated horribly, no to being seen as lesser.
It’s an amazing scene and probably the best scene in the entire series
Also, all of Caesar's character development up until this point was essentially one giant dramatic buildup. Then it fizzled with a callback line from the original film to us viewers before it dropped a bomb with a very impactful "NO!".
We are not the only animals that can speak, primates clearly show signs of having dialects in their own languages and so do Orcas

This scene has its own fanbase.
Hands down one of the greatest, and arguably overlooked, movies of all time.

Yes
This is one of my favorite triologies out there
It’s probably overlooked because it takes a whacky concept and makes it really grounded and tangible without the extra flash like a marvel movie or other fiction blockbusters nowadays. Which is honestly one of its greatest strengths. A shame because this trilogy is biblical IMO.
Greatest? Not even close.
1:20 even the movement of the camera symbolizes "the rise" - the moment when the apes become the superior ones.

One thing no ones ever bring taking about this scene is the line: "Take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape!" and yes people know thats a line in the first Planet of the Apes movie, but is the idea behind this.....this in the og was the line that George Taylor, says to the apes that shook them, they never heard a Human talk before and they where shock.....now this line is say before Caesar speaks for the first time.....and he does with a NO......now he an APE silence a Human who can't believe an ape talk back to him, is in my opinion one of the best uses of both fanservice and a reversal I have ever seen in any film ever.

This scene was so well placed. I'd go so far as to say one of the best cinematic moments of the decade. They had the audience engaged in an action scene, and built the movie up in such a way that they could completely forget that the apes eventually talk. Then they throw a little reference at us so we all feel a little distracted and then Caesar shouts. All this build up so we wouldn't see it coming from a mile away. Then It happens and they drop all sound so we realize the importance of what we just saw. We get a moment to take it all back then right back into finishing the fight and getting us super hyped and excited for what comes next.
I'm not even fond of the original Planet of the Apes. But this scene hit me like a ton of bricks.

I always admired how Caesar never wanted to kill the humans in this trilogy, rather just break free from their rule. I never saw it as him being weak, but as Caesar actually being the bigger individual. Caesar was a great leader because he kept his eye on the actual goal, which was for his kind to be free from human rule. He only killed when it was absolutely necessary and he always did his best to not make things personal. In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes when Caesar and the other apes rencountered the humans he even tried to make peace with them rather than go to war, because he knew how devastating war could be for both the humans and the apes. A wise leader always searches for peace if it is possible rather than solve problems through violence. Caesar didn’t force the apes to hate the human race, he didn’t ask them to kill every single one of them (like Koba), he just thought about what was best for his kind. Caesar knew in order to be a higher species you must be better than the ones who abused you. I saw the trailer for the 4th movie and I’m so hyped for it! Tho it seems some apes have learned nothing from the humans and are beginning to act just like they did after becoming the dominant species. Hopefully this knew character (who I believe is named Noa) will take after him and follow in his footsteps.
I remember seeing this movie in theatres with my mom when i was thirteen. This scene made the entire audience's jaw drop. It was great and a lot of fun to witness.

This scene still gives me chills. Love the reboot trilogy!
I remember when I was watching this is the theater, this was a big shock to a lot of people. I heard a lot of gasps, wows, and holy shits.
CRAZY GREG FILMS nn
Really? Caesar's first word is the most famous unseen part of the lore of the original five movies. I spent the entire film waiting for it to happen and wasn't disappointed when it did.
When I get homework on the 1st day of school
CRAZY GREG FILMS see, I think we all knew it was gonna happen. We were just shocked at how badass it was!
if you ever saw the original with Charleston Hesston it was a line used back in the 1968 film, when he is in a net, look up on here damn dirty ape on fandango
Seeing this in theaters was magical!
The whole crowd audibly gasped and went flat out silent. It was one of the best collective movie moments I've experienced in theater.
I remember I laughed and was shocked at the same time haha 😂😂
BOT
That that “NO!” Still gave me chills over a decade on
Where I watched this in the cinema EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE in that theater GASPED when he said no 🤣
My whole theatre went quiet after Caesar yelled "NO!" Before that we were all laughing at the "Dirty ape!" line. It's not as shocking here as seeing it in the movie, though.
Same with my theater . Scared the crap out me.
Absolutely, the whole theatre was shocked at the same time
in. y theatre nobody laughed at the dirty ape lone but when he yelled no the whole room collectively gasped and a few people said "o shit" lol
+Nene Sanders LOL SAME
For the first time in my experience with theaters, there was a collective gasp from the audience then 5 seconds of total, deafening silence.
It was such a good decision for them to cut the music right when he says it, makes the line way more impactful.
1:56 the way he’s dragging him 🤣
This is hands down one of the best origin films ever made.
I remember when I was at the cinema and people were chattering and giggling. But the moment Caesar spoke, everyone went silent.
One of the most powerful and moving scenes in Cinema history. I remember this apes movie was a surprise hit. Ppl wernt expecting much after the apes that came out early 2000s with mark walberg. And I think this scene in particular is the best scene in the apes franchise. Still gives me chills every time. The guerillas face says it all. It was just really well placed well acted and well put. Love this scene
Call me crazy but I'm in an addiction recovery program and I call back to this scene sometimes when temptation comes to me. I scream NO at the cage that drugs puts you in. WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE WORDS OF CAESAR
Gorilla in the cage was like, wait what. 😂
Love this movies.
i still remember the reaction of the audience during this scene in the movie theater....goosebumps!!!!
1:17 Me: *laughs*
1:23 Me: *zips his mouth shut*
Just like the entire cinema
