    Wow. I love it! Would a larger alternator have enough amps to power an inverter and a small RV AC in the roof? Or power a window unit in the back window?

    An old tractor for doing stuff at my farm is on my wish list. 60s-90s something 2-3k that I can get parts for. I've got over 5.5 years to go so I have some time to look around.

    What about a pony motor that just runs the deck. Like a 20 something horsepower V twin from a riding mower. Save the tractor motors power for driving the tractor and running accessories. I have a 1970 international 154 running a 130 amp alternator i mounted to the side because I mounted a full size halogen rotator light bar on a Rollover bar. The lightbar pulls about 60 amps with everything lit up and it really bogs the engine down. Bought a LED strobe bar and it's much better now lol

    Okay... Hear me out; turbocharger... You don't need a drag racer, but the replacement for displacement is boost. Get an extra 10-30hp going, then it'd easily run an AC compressor.

    Some time back i toyed with the idea of attempting to cool a vehicle by pumping icy water through a heater core...my idea was to simply put a large cooler in my trunk or truck bed fill it with water and ice...get a 12v circulation pump and pump the water into the car/trucks heater core...i very briefly tested the idea hooked up to a garden hose, seemed like it might just work...never followed through with it though

    Very nice! I wonder if you can mount a few golf cart batteries on board, feed off the alternator and power a smaller electric AC as you showed …

    I wish I had an air conditioned cab with radio. You are soooo lucky!

    Salvage an air conditioner pump, lines, and condenser from a junked car. Replace the accumulator(or receiver drier) or find a way to dry it out. Then buy an aftermarket cheap evaporator and use a small computer fan to blow on it. As for controlling the system, maybe some sort of a pressure switch therefore you'll probably want an older system.
    It would be cheap but you'd have to make sure to add oil and vacuum out the system and recharge it yourself since I don't think anyone with 608 or 609 certification is willing to risk a fine from the EPA for working on something like that.
    You should have enough power to run the system since its a small space being cooled. However, you'd want to have an AC switch in case you're mowing some tough grass.

    Theres a turbo kit for cubs, never seen one put on a pony break. Keystone claims double the factory power, if thats not just advertising then you would have enough power to run the bigger deck and give ac power a fare try.

    So the simplest approach, albeit not the cheapest, would be to use a 12v inverter-based rooftop air conditioner and power it with an upgraded alternator. Dometic makes a nice one for ~$2k but you can get an ugly chinese model for ~$700-1000. The alternator is a common GM format (10si?) for which higher-current models are readily available. I do think you are pushing it to power both air conditioner and mower deck from the original engine, but on the other hand it may not take much to KEEP the cab cool after the initial cooling off. Depends mostly on air sealing, i'd guess. An inverter-based 8000-12000btu ac should drop down to a minimum of 150-200w running at its lowest capacity, which may be exactly what it does when only having to cool such a small cab. I'm definitely looking forward to the progression of this project!!

      I guess i could comment on the 'cheaper' approaches too. $150 Big alternator, $150 1500-2000w 12vdc to 120vac inverter, and $150 5-6000 btu ac 'window unit'. You can either rig into the back of the cab in horribly ugly fashion, OR you can go full Rube Goldberg and replumb it to relocate the components to various locations for packaging reasons. You can also convert a ~$300 inverter-based Midea window unit into a 'mini split' by lengthing all the wiring and brazing on fittings for hoses to separate the two 'halves' of the unit, neither end of which by itself is very large. But, that's not much cheaper than a rock-bottom $450-500 'already split' mini-split, but the downside is both sides of those units are substantially larger. Mini-splits in general get some of their efficiency vs equivalent 'regular window unit' from having much larger condenser surface area, which is fine for efficiency but maybe not great for packaging onto the smallest tractor that's not a lawnmower.

    Ok I might not know what I am talking about but have you calculated how much HP the mower deck takes to run under a load and then the AC and actually turning the tires? Isn’t the mower deck a tad bigger then the ones that comes with it? I am not trying to be a Debbie downer, just trying to do the calculations…. Thanks for the video!

      @1D10CRACY  Před rokem

      The deck runs off the PTO and the PTO only has 11HP. The tractor had a 60" deck and minimal recommended HP for a 60" deck is 14hp. That being said, 60" decks are not an issue because of the torque the 4 cylinder provides. I do know of another fellow running a 72" deck on the same tractor and per him, it gets the job done. So I am fairly confident powering AC via the engine is not probable, hence the battery powered AC options. Worst case scenario, I repower the tractor with a bigger engine, I'm not opposed to that either. Some of the most fun I've ever had was "Trial and Error". ;)

      @@1D10CRACY love it!!!! I was just thinking out loud and I really want you to have AC!!! I only have .3 acres front and back yard… my snapper rider gets it done in 20 minutes. And yes I wish I had AC to so I would be in an enclosed space to not get as dirty when mowing. I do wish you the best of luck!!! I wish I could some how help.

      Keep in mind that the mowers on those tractors aren't there for perfect cuts or mulching. They don't waste horsepower on that stuff.
