I’m SO glad you found it helpful! 🙌🏽 would love to share more tips about credit cards. Most of my favorite cards are from Chase or CapitalOne. Those would be a good place to start!

Great video but you can cancel a credit card without it affecting your credit score. If the card is less than a year old or even a little over a year old you can cancel with no issue as long as you ask that they note that the card was canceled at the cardholder's request. You can absolutely get a card for the sign up bonus and then cancel it after the first year, if you were in good standing it will actually be a positive on your credit report for 10 years.

I didn’t know this! Would it still be better for your credit score to keep the card open? Thank you for sharing 🫶🏽

@HolaAlexandraaa It only really makes sense to keep a credit card if you've already had it a long time. However, if you're paying an annual fee or something just to keep a card you don't use, it's better to cancel it as long as you have other cards that you've held just as long or longer.
If you cancel a card, request that it's noted to the credit agencies that the cardholder requested the cancellation, that's actually a positive for your credit score. And if you always paid your bills on time, that card will remain a positive on your credit score for ten years. If it falls off your credit report in ten years you should have other accounts by that time that will be just as old and it won't harm your score at all.
The only times a card cancellation harms your score is when the bank cancels the card on you or if the card is an old card which will affect your average age of credit.
However, the average age of credit is only 15% of your score anyway and you'll be fine if you still have accounts that are over two years old. If you have accounts older than that you have nothing to worry about when you cancel a newer card.
