- Today is the first look at a new play by email game of the Matrix Game, War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition that I'm playing against XTRG. In this video I go over some of my initial thoughts and strategies as we start issuing orders in our first turn.
- Hry
So happy you guys are taking on this game. Don't give up! We need a thorough playthrough to draw people to this behemoth!
I am thinking of getting this but its alot of money.
Is the computer a worthy opponent? Or is it to good?
@@jagsdomain203 from what I've heard it is a worthy opponent. I waited for it to go on sale and I highly recommend keeping an eye out for it very soon since xmas is coming up!
@@jagsdomain203 No the AI is fairly weak.
@@REMMc-jx7vc game is now 80% off.. but it is 18 years old!
Well explained in only 22 minutes. May it continue
Good luck I love seeing folks still playing the gane
I love this series.... I am going to watch both of you guys! Are you going to upload your full turns?
Excellent game ,best of luck.
I use to play this game when it was a board game by Grisby....as well as War in the East..........loved them....I got the War in the East game on my computer and may get this one...but both sure look confusing to play...so much to do and to keep track of..hopefully your series will help me...............
Excellent video...looking forward to more. The map looks awesome...what mod are you using and where do I get it.
I'm very exited for this series! I have the game for many years now, and I started recently playing it again after a long break from it. I'm currently at preparing turn 1 (as the USA). Takes forever... So, I will watch the decision you make and learn from them. ;-) By the way: it is pronounced "Sura Baajaa". Good luck commander. Greeting from the Netherlands!
Hey I was wondering if you might be able to give a noob some tips for learning this? My steam is Steve Spaghetti. (Dont ask)
2:30 Burma huh
2:49 Renown and Repulse? Come on
Anyway, though nice episode hope you can deal some damage in the early war. Any plans to withdraw some Chinese units to Burma for use in India?
Also Don't lose Big E
PS...Can you also do a series on the Grisby War in the East game on Steam?
I was just typing up a razz at XTRG for taking 137 hours to set up the Japanese when you mentioned it.
Another guy Strategy Gsming Dojo did a lot, some 20 episodes on his strategy(as of 9/5/21 107 episodes play through) but they’re in 45ish minute pieces so you can pick what you want to see
I like your plan, good luck. I'm still learning the game so this is going to be a great help, thanks. I do like your map, it is much better than mine, much clearer. I have tried to get it but all the links I have been given are dead or empty folders, if you could point me in the right direction I would be really grateful. Thanks for doing this series.
harplonked is a master of this game.
I would like to see a game made in same manner like this but medieval or ancient times.
Where can I get the map mode?
How do you get this map display.? The current one is really crappy
Your map is completely different than the one I'm using. What map is this?
Same question here
It's the Yamato Damashii map by Chemkid.
It took 3 years to get past 140-ish days. Wouldn't that mean such a game would take 18 years to finish (if the game ends around the end of 1945)?! That's around the irl year 2037.
Hi HG...I just bought it....your map is different. Is that a mod or patch?
He is using a map mod, there have been a number of different maps made and they can greatly enhance the game experience in my opinion. You can find some in this link: www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=715. I cannot remember what the name of mod map he is displaying above is. But, if you look around I am sure you will find it.
5:23 for full historical authenticity the Japanese should be allowed only minimal anti sub warfare and commerce protection
Which software package did you use to record this?
Anyone knows how to get this look on the game? I just purchased it from Matrix Games. It has the same version showed in this video but the map doesn't look nearly as good. Also, I cannot make it work with a decent resolution, fullscreen or windowed, even using the command line switches.
He is using a different map file. I'm not sure which one but look around the Matrix forums, they can at least point you in the correct direction.
The most common command line problem is using the incorrect hyphen, if your switches aren't working use the other one. Someone has written a GUI for setting up your command line called Seabee. once again search Matrix forums.
I know this is late but hopefully it can help you or someone else.
Need a flagship called The Blood Court. Or maybe a task group.
Ohhhh... task group blood court!
hello from singapore
Hello!
It's happening
Cue the Ron Paul gif!
@@thehistoricalgamer media.giphy.com/media/rl0FOxdz7CcxO/giphy.gif
Nice map..gone I get that anywhere please
I'm using the same version as you and my map looks totally different, graphically. Mine is much more busy, scatterplotty, and difficult to look at.
He is using a map mod, there are many different ones available (and some that may no longer be available). You can find them here: www.matrixgames.com/forums/tt.asp?forumid=715.
@@richardleclear Can you point me the exact link of this map mod?
My biggest issue with the original War in the Pacific game (Not the admirals version) is that the US is so limited in what forces they cane move. Thousands of troops and aircraft are stuck in US or in Australia. I don't have the Admirals version, but I play the original verion and can win playing Japanese or US..every single time. I also turn off all AI assist for whichever team I am playing as I prefer to do all transporting of supplies, fuel, resources, etc myself. I simply love this game !!!
as the Japanese , I've found that the only realistic way to win a major victory if if he takes the Hiawaiian islands so that's probably what your opponent has in mind, especially if he's played this game often, watch out for that possibility dude, 8 hours on turn 1 makes that very likely
Not really, he's probably doing a lot of logistics and industry management. He has a very long winded style of explanation. Quite possibly changes a lot of the initial invasions as well since those are not exactly optimized for gaming the system. Also you need to put a lot of time to just boring crap like managing the reserve air units to be training, asw units to be grouped into sensible areas etc.
My hope is my episodes are a bit more bite sized where I can give you the gist of what’s happening, my plans, and the results to give you a sense of the depth of the game without also requiring you to spend the time that a hard core play through requires. It’s fun to do but doesn’t make as good of a show to show all the minutiae imho.
Xtrg is pretty new to WITP... he has a lot of folks like you giving advise but like me he’s not an experienced commander in this game.
Do another play thru Best ww2 simulation ever. Beats war in east 2 which is also excellent
Not planning to defend Mersing/Johore Bahru from invasions at all?
Sort of. They’re further down the list of priorities. I need to fall back to them for them to be defensible.
As I understand there are some standard defenses against those early invasions. Not an experienced player myself tho so will be interested in seeing how you fare! Will try to ask some constructive questions as the game proceeds, will not watch XTRG because his videos are just too damn long!
How did you get that resolution? Mine seems locked to stone age! :( and it runs like ....poo!
I had the same issues, caused by Windows 10. Try this, it worked for me.

So I know this video is a bit old but I'm just desperate for this kind of game. I have WiTE and WITW as well. Can anyone give me some tips for learning these GG games and their interfaces? Also looking for any grand or operational level games to play as well.
Any tutorials or written guides that y'all could point me towards would be amazing.
May i reccomend one of GG early games from 1999(originaly made)however Matrix have re-done the entire game and called it "Gary grigsbys Eagle Day to Bombing The Reich" it used to be called Battle of britian by Talonsoft ok,now theyve added a comple new Bombing campaign using the American airforce from 1943-1945! :) before you just had the BoB!.Theyve done an amazing job with it too,its alot easier than WiTE/WitW to get into as well enjoy.
@@Ickie71 hey I know this is super late but i appreciate the reply! I'm going to look for it to go on sale and I cant wait to try it out :)
Chris G for gameplay WITE look at Marauderpl he gives good basic explanation
What's the name of tis map mod???
I have Windows 10.5 and can not get correct resolution on my computer. I'm using 1980 x 1020. I am wondering how you were able fit yours on your computer and look like what you have here/ Please help if you can. By the way, I enjoy your watching your videos and they are helpful to me. I also play the same games as well...
In order for your game to properly display on large monitors, you will need to use a command line switch. Check this thread here: www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4164106. That should get you up to speed, I tun my WitP-AE on a 32 inch flat screen and it displays great. But, it did some fiddling to get right.
jaw hor bar ru, bali pa pun, ma lack ker,
Regarding pronounciations - just google the place! There's usually a wikipedia article with pronounciation guide.
Honestly I’m terrible at phonetically pronouncing things well. I have to hear something to pronounce it correct and even then sometimes I just can’t get the right verbalization. I’ll try to be better though.
Just speak locations fast, then viewers won't notice. When you stop on it, it calls attention to the pronunciation.
They are usually pronounced the same as you would in English, especially considering this was before they changed the spelling. The Dutch-Malay names are harder but you got Surabaya right. You actually nailed most of the Malay pronunciations, except "Bharu," which is nowadays loses the "h" and is "bar-oo." You got second one right for Johor Bahru, it means "new" and Johor is the name of the state. Yes, I know the spellings are different, but they are the same word. Looks fun.
@@thehistoricalgamer
goto google translate. it has automatic voice reader.
Why did you not pull back all dutch forces to bolster 2 islands , so Japan coulnt take those. Would be a tremendous strongpoint
The game limits what you can load on transports via Headquarters restrictions to limit certain types of ahistorical play.
@@thehistoricalgamer that's to bad...because doing this would create the opportunity to keep borneo and/or Java, and would be a thorn in Japanese it's side
Get this on a next gen console with proper cgi and cinematics! And your off! I played the old pto02 on snes this micro mngt approach is great!
