To answer the changing of the endings, basically, there are maybe 4 factions, each with 3 paths. You play through the initial branch if the story. U dint know if you can actually change the path you take in that first one, i just havent been able to peg that yet. But afterward, you receive an item that gives you a boost in another path, to make sure you know thst oath is available and give you a high probability of taking a different path from the original. Each playthrough of a path is a full playthrough un the spiral of destiny. I figure 10-15 hours or so. They get a little shorter after the first one because you start at day 10. I typically finish them after day 60+
I’ve tried numerous F2P games only to give up after hitting paywalls. That is until I started playing Honkai Star Rail. I fell in love with the complex story and in depth backstories of the characters. Plus you never saw ads. I actually had to go looking for what you could spend money on. It’s basically for new characters and material to up your weapons. However the game gave me a ton in 4 star chara cters just through the story and you can earn materials by grinding. I decided, for the first time ever, to spend up to the amount that I’d regularly spend on a new game over the course of a year. So $60. No regrets because I’m more invested in it right now than the huge backlog of games I have sitting on my shelf. It sounds like this game does the gacha part right also where if you can play for free if you want to. Never thought I’d tout a F2P but maybe some companies are finally learning to do it right. You’re welcome! I do think that I want to make a video on F2P and Gachas in general because people just have too negative of a view of it. I’ve played some really good ones lately
@@BacklogBattle I would be really interested in a video on F2P/Gachas that you think your viewership would enjoy playing. I have no interest in games that push us to (basically) required battle-passes/mtx/gacha pulls, but of course I am happy to pay small amounts of money for some basic character/weapon sets that make the game playable & enjoyable. I had a lot of fun with Genshin Impact, and didn't pay a cent beyond the original $10 welcome package (or whatever its called) -- However, I only played for 20 hours or so, and not sure how grindy it gets later without gacha pulls for strong characters/weapons....

Indeed, the most popular gachas tends to be f2p friendly, i'm currently playing Arknights and Reverse: 1999, and can't wait for SoC to drop...

i started out very hyped, especially since you covered it, but man, am i both wary and weary of f2p gachas. i'll probably still follow coverage and maybe give it a shot, but that really kills my vibe
Tried the demo during steam next fest and it's really good. The story is quite interesting and the visual is beautiful.
When the game reveal it's gacha mechanic during the demo it really caught me off guard. Might give it a try if the promised story mode is actually f2p friendly.
That's the thing I was trying to figure out while playing the demo - when do I get keys? The keys are tied to how much of the story you're able to play.

I tried the demo during Steam Next Fest and thought it was fun and since I already play some gachas, that isn't really an issue for me. Will def try it when it releases

Played both the demo and CBT and have been following XD for sometime! Looking forward to full release at the end of the month and excited to see how the game develops!
They seem to listen to player feedback (at least rn and initially) so I'm stay cautiously optimistic.

thanks for the review Alex. ngl i forgot about this game.😅😅im glad to see that there are more positives than negatives. hopefully i will be able to get around to trying this when it comes out because it looks fun. if it is true that the gacha doesn't get in the way like you said then that gives me even more of a reason to check it out.
You can also push people into pits in Fell Seal. Or drown them. Anyway, thanks for the review, will try the game. :)

switch yes, and ps5 as well. not sure about ps4
Might give it a chance as I'm mostly a PVE player. However, as with all F2P gacha games, the PVP is definitely going to be impossible unless you're a whale.
Also as the game is already out in some some Asian countries, I've seen videos explaining how bad the gacha rates are for this one, hopefully they get adjusted for the Global release.
Since I didn't really feel the need to pull multiple times, I just rolled with who I had and I was fine. Here's hoping that the global release pull rates are better!

Sounds amazing, but sounds like it might be too easy for those with any skill. Sure hope theres a Hard Mode!
I can answer this a bit. First, don't bring in any of your high rarity gacha units until the Spiral of Destinies. Bring trash units. This will make it much more difficult.
Second, if you, "go wide," in building your unit, aka spread your resources amongst many units instead of stacking everything up on a few. This led me to being offered lv 54 states when my highest unit level was 46. I got absolutely slapped. But after about 7 tries, I figured out a way to beat it. I. Got. Slapped.
Looks like another dev trying to attach an actual decent game to their gacha. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I do know developers of gacha games have been trying harder on the "game" part in recent years.
At some point I suppose I'm going to have answer the question: "Is there a point where a game is good enough I'm willing to look past the existence of a gacha system?"
It's not about being able to "make do." It's not about how "fair" or "generous" the gacha is, or pity systems or how viable f2p is or whatever. I don't like the concept of gacha in the first place. There is no way to make it good in my book, and I will never spend money on a gacha system. Can a game make me accept the flaw and play anyway? Will they include some other monetization that non-gacha players like me would actually accept to make them revenue? Can they do that while also not ruining the profitability of the gacha system?
Well you can always just, you know, buy other similar games, for example instead of this game you can just buy FFT
