    I have two shaves out of these blades and they are really amazing for me. I shaved with a Feather for 3 days prior and It gave me a lot of irritation, absolutely no irritation with the Polsilver.

    Another great insightful video Nick - Thank you....You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned that our experiences can be so different once we gain some experience. To add to that - then there is how different blades work so differently in different razors on different faces. Great review!

    I am two months into wet shaving and enjoy your reviews of blades. You are making a good case for Personna blue blades which I think will be my go to blade. They are sharp and don't drag even into the third day after which I replace.

    Having tried both blades, i totally agree with Nick. Polsilvers are the best blades I've ever used, but not the cheapest. The Personna lab blues are almost identical in terms of sharpness, smoothness, and longevity, but at almost half the cost, plus they're USA made!

  • @DS-ff6ze

    These are probably the best DE blades I've ever tried. They're sharp, but the skin irritation is very minimal. The price isn't that bad (you can find them for $18/100 on ebay).

    Another awesome review! I recently got a pack of these free with my muhle r-41 so in honor of your video I gave them a try. Excellent shave, very close and zero irritation. The r41 is a great blade testing razor btw since it's pretty much ALL blade lol. My beloved Wilkinsons failed miserably in that razor but they are unbelievably awesome in my de89. I seem to be getting a different favorite blade for each razor!

    Hi Nick,
    Thank you for reviewing Polsilver Super Iridiums. I thought you would like them. Like you, I was a little put off by their price, double that of my go-to Personna Lab Blues. But I have an interesting challenge for you. Don't change out that Polsilver right away. Keep shaving with it until you feel the slightest bit of tugging or dullness. You may find, as I have, that the incredible durability of these blades justifies their high cost.

    Nice one! I enjoy your reviews. I recommend you trying the Voskhod blades. Them and the Astra SP's are my goto blades. But I must admit, there is a new fling goin' on in my bathroom, and that's the Rapira Platinum Lux! Damn good blades, at least for me!

    Great video Nick. I live in Bulgaria and here Polsilvers are at the same price point as almost all the other blades around 0.50$ for a 5pack or 8-9$ for a 100.
    I have to say those are the best blades I have found so for after testing over 20 diffrent types. The GSB are as good but the price is much higher so they are out of the picture. Anyway my go to blades are Polsilver and the Astra SP and you seem to like them both.

  • @kirkmyers7005

    I haven't used the Personna Lab Blues, but I have used the Personna Reds. They performed poorly on my tough beard. I won't use them again. It's worth it to me to spend more money for a blade that actually shears off most of my stubble in the first pass. The three I mentioned below all meet that test.

  • @DanielMazahreh

    i did my first DE shave. i have watched a lot of your vids, but have you made a video about the aftershave process? i have an Edwin Jagger DE89 and was confused when it came to washing it and storing it. i took apart the razor and removed the blade, washed it off and patted it dry. same for the razor and reassembled it together and put it in my brush/razor stand.
    am i supposed to leave it all unscrewed to let it air dry or is this okay? i know some people just rinse it in the sink and hang it up and call it a day

What would you recommend for a good razor but more aggressive. I have a thick beard. I shave daily for work. Been using feather blade's as my go to. Appreciate any feedback.

  • @kirkmyers7005
    @kirkmyers7005 Před 9 lety

    Good review. The Polsilver, Gillette Silver Blue and Personna Med Lab brands are my three go-to blades. I've used the Feather blades only two or three times, so I still haven't rated them. Because of my tough beard, I shave almost exclusively with the Muhle R41 and ATT H2 razors. I get a great smooth shave with the Polsilver blade, with rarely a nick. (I should mention that these blades remove the bulk of my beard in the first pass. I usually follow with an XTG pass, mostly along the jawline, and touchups in a few areas, and then I'm done.) The above razors, along with these blades, are so efficient at removing beard growth that I rarely use my Merkur 34c heavy-duty solid bar or 37c slant bar anymore.

    Another excellent video, Nick!
    I want to add one thing here that might cause you rethink your comparison to the Personna Lab Blue's. The lab blue's are around $12 for 100, while the polsilver's are around $22. However, i can get 8-10 quality shaves out of a polsilver, while i'm only able to get around 3-4 out of a lab blue. When you factor in usable life to the equation, the polsilvers come out to be a little more cost effective.
    Cheers!
    Bill

  • @Steven197981
    @Steven197981 Před 9 lety

    Good review, Nick.
    The Polsilver Super Iridium blade is what I solely use daily. I first heard about in the Fall of last year and decided to purchase a sample pack. The rest is history.
    For me, when used properly, the D.E. blade provides a close and comfortable shave in only two passes (WTG & ATG). My past experiences with other blades, like Big Ben, Derby, CVS and Rite Aid brands, proved unsuccessful. Also, a lot of men say that the Polsilver S.I. blade is less sharper (not significantly) than the Japanese Feather razor; however, it is able to cut facial hair effectively with little or no irritation.
    I, too, agree that the blades are costly. Nevertheless, it seems apparent these blades are of superior quality, and I personally don't mind to pay the fairly high price. Last December, I purchased a pack of 50 on EBay for about $23.00, which I suppose is not bad. Considering that I use one blade at least three times, the pack lasted me until just last month.

    Great review, I haven't tried them mostly because of price, I want to stay under $20 for a hundred blades is my limit. The only exception is the Feather blades, but I use them sparingly when I haven't shaved for a while and want to cut through my beard.
    The blades that I want you to try that just blew me away are the crystal blades also known as the Israeli Personna blades. They are one of Chris Baily's (Traditional Shaving Evangelist) favorite blade.

  • @papajohnscookie

  • @nevermore311
    @nevermore311 Před 9 lety

    I'll probably add a few of these Polsilvers into my next tryablade order. Maybe if I don't love them they'll still be that "every once in a while" blade. I use a Feather every once in a while when I want something sharper, but I have to be more careful with them.
    I'd try out Voskhod soon, or maybe do a little "tour" of the other Personnas that are out there (Red, Crystal, etc). All of those blades have quite a few fans.

  • @CraigRasmussen1

    I have heard good reviews on the Polsilver blades. I looked them up on eBay and Amazon…but had trouble finding any 100 packs. All I could find were 5 , 10, or 20 packs at very high prices. They are hard to find in bulk.

    Nick, another awesome video! Your videos got me into DE shaving and I thank you so much! Just a general comment to all DE shaving videos and comments: "Penny-wise and Pound foolish" regarding the price of blades. 100 blades will last me at least 2 years with shaving 3 times per week with each blade. I will gladly spend pennies for the best blade and shave with no irritation. p.s. I have not used these blades, just my thoughts on using the best blade for you regardless of price and pennies per shave. it's still so, so inexpensive compared to cartridges. :-) Mark

    Hey I just received the blades this weekend. I had about five days of beard growth and I must say this blade is smooth & sharp. It left my face smooth. I must agree with all of your guys.
    It is true they are pricier than some of the other blades I use. (Amazon $6.50 /5 blades). I think in the future I may just shop elsewhere. Once i'm done with pack it may become my "Go-to blade".

    How long does "good technique" take to develop? I am on about my 6th DE shave and though it is worlds better than cartridge, it's not the perfect, ideal world I was hoping for. I am using the Merkur 34c, Astra SP Platinum blades, Catie's Bubble LPV, and a Semogue 2000 brush. I have had a few bad shaves and one AMAZING shave. I wish I knew what contributed to the amazing shave. Maybe it was just luck. How do I find out if I need to use Feather blades or smoother blades like Derby? I feel that if I experiment and am wrong, it's a world of hurt.

    Thank you for the review - very informative though you do like to load tons of soap! :D
    I used to take ages with the soap etc but now it's a case of quick hot water face splash, dab some cream on the brush (Finest Badger or 1520 boar) or use Arko soap stick on the face and swirl away :)
    Back to the review, I personally found the lab blues are poor in my experience - very inconsistent. However, Polsilver SI are very close to the sharpness of Feather blades but cheaper. In the UK they can be obtained for a tad over £13 ($20) for a wallet of 100; 13p per blade isn't bad and one must remember to factor in shaves per blade; with these, 5 shaves is about the typical number reached. Most others are 3 shaves or less (Rapira *cough cough). What price too on smoothness/quality of shave? Cartridges (decent ones) can last a little longer but even with this unless you are on a very tight budget these are like the Cuban cigars of DE and not that expensive in the scheme of things.
    They are more forgiving than Feathers also and have an attractive logo - not that it matters! :)
    These are one of 4 blades I use mostly with others being Gillette Silver Blue, Feather and Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow and all these are the higher end of the 'sharpness' spectrum.

    Thanks for the review Nick. Which blades are your really favorite one, i mean which are the smoothest blades, where you can shave easily without irritations or anything else...??? Thanks in advance, Cheers Mark

      My go to blades are personna lab blues. They aren't the sharpest nor the smoothest blades out there, but they are wonderfully balanced, give me close shaves and never irritate my skin

    My problem is that after i get out of the shower and I have just washed my face, my face feels so dry and when I start my lather and start shaving, I always feel the blade not gliding as easy because my skin feels super dry, even if the soap is really slick. I use burts bees all natural face wash with no alcohol or benzoyl peroxide too. Should I use my face lotion before shaving?

    Run your wet fingers over your alum block to ensure good grip on your razor as you progress through your ritual. Erm..."Doh". Yet another "Why didn't I think of that" moment. Top tip and a great video. Many thanks to you, Sir. I use these blades in my Future (set just past two). Sharp, but nowhere near as aggressive as, say, a shark which, paired with a justifiably aggressive razor like the Merkur, gives a fast, smooth and irritation-free shave. I shave every second or third day and get six to seven shaves from a blade. Blades tend to fall off quickly so they remain sharp 'till they're not, if you see what I mean. I concur with everything the gentleman said.

    These are among the highest quality and best performing blades I've used so far and also probably the smoothest of the sharper tier of blades I've tried. However, for my skin and facial hair, I can pretty much get down to the skin with a moderately sharp blade. That is, the extra sharpness isn't benefiting me personally and probably raises the probably for nicks slightly although I haven't had this issue so far because I've been careful with them. The killer problem for me with Polsilver is that I get a similar caliber shave for my skin and facial hair with Voskhod for less than 1/5th the price per blade, an absurd disparity in value.
    If I needed a very sharp blade, Polsilver is the best of those I've used so far in terms of shave quality. Astra SPs are up there but caused mild burn and irritation, whereas Polsilver has not. So Polsilver versus Astra SP is expense versus mild irritation. But for me Voskhod has both beat being the smoothest, least prone to nicks being less sharp, and even less expensive than Astra SPs without any irritation/ burn. Had to go with Voskhod given it's the best shave AND an absurdly cheap 7 cents per blade.

    I Agree with you , I find the POL Silvers are amazingly close blade haven't found one to date to beat it in this respect...and "One pass" only for me after that I'm going to have irratation big time , would prefer a Astra SP (green pack) Zero irratation , A blade in which you can get the shave you need as far as closeness yet super , super forgiving so you can really work with it i.e.- touch -ups ,etc.

  • @shave-a-thon3415
    @shave-a-thon3415 Před 9 lety

    Very impressive shaving technique with a sharp blade. You didn't even have one small nick or cut and that was after a pretty extensive touch up pass! In actuality, if you look at the review you did of the Derby's last month, your touch up pass was only just a little more extensive. Would you say that the final result with the Polsilver was the same as that of the Derby? Are you always going for a BBS shave and if so, did you get that with both the Polsilver and the Derby with three passes and an extensive touch up pass?
    You mentioned that the Polsilver's might be cheaper on Ebay. Would you trust Ebay for purchasing blades? Are the Personna Lab Blues you mentioned the same as the Personna Medical Prep blades? I've also noticed that you don't seem to believe in after shave lotions, balms, or alum and your pre-shave oil seems to just be the bloom water of the soap..
    The question I have with all your blade reviews is how many shaves do you get per blade? Some of the blades you review have to give you a few more good shaves per blade than others. I'm not sure if you've kept stats, but an overall review video of all the blades with a discussion of number of shaves per blade would be appreciated.

    one thing you could do when you show the blades is put a piece of paper or any one colored flat large item behind your hand so it blocks the mirror because the camera is focusing on the mirror and on you which is making the blades packaging blurry. the single color in the background would let the camera focus solely on the blade and we could get a much clearer picture. otherwise a great video

    If I took all those steps and so much time to shave I'd never get out to work in the morning! I apply one layer of lather and shave with and against the grain. Never had irritation and very smooth every time. I use DE blades and complete my shave (start to finish) in 3 minutes.

    Ordered 15 unit as test blades of Polsilver Super iridium. I have Tried 2 blades so far and I can't use them. Make me feel as they are half sharp....I'm realy disapointed. I tried many brands like Gillette Nacet (awesome) - Gillette 7 oclock (green box), feather, etc...purchased from a mix sampler. Only Asco were not my best but I shaved 4 time with this blade. Usualy I shave 6 times. I will try one Polsilver again, but if there are no change...I will discard them of give them away.

    Did he say, round about 10 US$ for 100 Personna Blue blades only? That is pretty cheap.
    I paid 2-2.5€ (2,2-30 US$) for 10 blades in Germany! Same price as Polsilver Iridium.
    Personna Blue belong to my favorite ones. Sharp, smooth, last long, some of the best available!.
    Question, 1-1.5 $ per 10 piece pack, that is 10-15 Cent per blade only, why do so less guys shave that way. It is so cheap!
