*Some of you guys are misunderstanding the point in the video; its not about timeblindness being a symptom or a state, its about her bringing politics, God, and workers rights to somehow justify being late when people with ADHD consistently find ways to make time work for them without calling everyone else entitled.*

As a person with ADHD, I can relate the hardship in time management... but blaming others and the society for her problem is 🤦 I think its good that she knows she have ADHD, there are a lot of tips for people like us on the internet. It is easier to find a way to keep track of time than changing the concept of time.

Time blindness gets me hard, even with reminders, so this is a solution I worked out for myself and have asked people around me to use if they wanna do meet up: I either consider it urgent as hecc OR people tell me the wrong time intentionally, like "Be there at 5" when the meet up is supposed to happen at 5:30 - 6, that way it's all covered.
If I have a bad phase, I also save appointments that way too, set them earlier than they actually are, so I don't miss them. I still struggle with regular things that suddenly are off schedule though. But you gotta find solutions that work for you and not just keep putting it off. I was able to hold all of my jobs despite ADHD.

Maybe tmi but when I was 13, I was diagnosed with ADHD and Bipolar disorder II, and what my doctor told me that day has always stuck with me: "You didn't ask to have this. It's not your fault you have this; however, now that you know you do, it's your responsibility to manage it. You cannot use it as an excuse."
16 years later, I have a PhD and am a college professor who still struggles with the above mentioned, but I've never let it hold me back. Set multiple alarms. Set alarms in different parts of your room if you have to. Create a daily schedule for yourself that you carry around and mark stuff off as you go. See a doctor for medicine if necessary. You might have to work a little harder than other people, but that's how it is. I'm a professor who's very understanding of students' mental health, but would not tolerate someone being repeatedly late because of time-blindness. Especially if I'M there on time!

yes! i commented on someone else’s post but the goal of therapy is usually how to manage symptoms of mental illness to become a functioning member of society. meaning WE who have the mental illness are the ones who need to work hard to accommodate ourselves rather than society accommodating us and letting us just let our mental illnesses be which is what i feel like a lot of this toxic mental illness “support” culture is nowadays. especially like the everything i see w bpd (a disorder i’ve been diagnosed with along with bipolar type 1) it’s like all the posts are kind of excusing the toxic and harmful behavior that those of us with bpd might partake in rather than explaining why it might happen and how to try to make sure it doesn’t happen again and show how important it is to APOLOGIZE for your wrongdoings instead of just playing the victim.

Time itself is universal but having to live by so many meetings, appointments, interviews, events, bills, deadlines…etc It’s very stressful and for ADHDers it feels horrible. However it’s not anyone in particular’s fault its just how it turned out and we just have to develop tools and deal with consequences. I don't want to be late but I get distracted easily, I forget what I need to take with me when I leave the house so I never plan to leave 5 minutes before the agreed time. My colleagues think I'm weird for being 10 to 30 minutes early but I can't seem to find time to explain and not using my alarms for that 😅 as I'm already exhausted from reminding myself what to do and what to take and forcing my brain to remember where I put everything eventhough I'm organized

I've taught art for years. The worst client I've ever had was "time blind", as they said. They would set up appointments and not even show up, then call me hours later and expect me to drop everything to give them a lesson even when I was helping other clients 😆 So I told them they're "block blind" because they wasted my time and I have a life too! I've struggled with chronic insomnia and bipolar depression for years, so I've had my fair share of troubles getting to appointments on time, but I worked on myself so I can present in my own life. Choosing to chalk up laziness to a fake undiagnosable phenomenon is selfish, and not only that, it's self-destructive

    • @kinseydesignsbrands

I have ADHD and own a business, and if I have a client that has a pattern of not showing up on time or at all, it feels like a disrespect for my time and life, and I will fire them as a client. That's what this girl really doesn't get. Yes, time blindness is a thing, but having respect for other peoples time is what can provide the needed responsibility to be on time, or at least try your best to be!

accommodations for being time blind (part of ADHD actually) AREN'T letting people not be on time. Accommodations for that are like "Can I have a personal digital clock at my desk so I can keep track better, that way I can't accidentally overlook those little numbers on my computer," or, "Is it okay if I set alarms on my phone in the office? That way I can have a little warning to get ready for a meeting." Another one: "Hey, I struggle with time management, can we do weekly check-ins on long-term projects so that I can pace myself well?" I don't think this girl was explaining herself very well, but time blindness is a real thing neurodivergent people deal with and there are VERY reasonable accommodations which exist and can help people succeed at getting things in or getting places on time.

    • @fistOFjustice91

There are accommodations at schools sometimes for people with ADHD. They give you time and a half on test and quizzes and will also send you written notes of what was discussed in class and the ability to excuse yourself from the classroom without asking. They however would not be lenient what so ever when it came turning assignments in days late or not coming to class on time.

As someone from HR, accommodation is a two-way street. You cannot expect to be accommodated if you haven’t done something to overcome it to the best of your abilities. I’m not neurodivergent so I can’t speak to how real time blindness is, but I can say that we absolutely will accommodate you if you tell us “hey, I have this condition, I’ve done so and so to make sure it doesn’t affect my work, but in the off chance that it does slip, I hope you understand and can accommodate me by giving me a heads up that there’s a meeting coming up and sending me calendar invites so I can immediately put meetings and deadlines in my calendar”. Companies are required to accommodate until undue hardship and if you’re requesting accommodations the way she did, they will think that this would be too much of a liability for them. Give them a plan on how to accommodate you, if you don’t have a plan then offer to work with them so they know how to accommodate you, that’s how accommodations work

The biggest one for me has been opening Google maps when I start getting ready, and starting the directions so that it'll give me a live ETA to wherever I need to be. It may feel silly, but small things like this have made a WORLD of difference for me.
I think the important thing is that people who struggle with this realize that it's not a moral failure, it's just how your brain works! But this doesn't mean you're excluded from expectations, it just means you have to work that much harder! It sucks, but it's reality. 🙃

Tbh she is half right, who the hell made our day start so early when everyone hates it, nobody likes getting up early in the morning and 9-5 and school times are so stupid. Its still each person's responsibility to get on time people really shouldnt have to accommodate. There should probably be 5 minute wiggle room, for example the job starts at 8:30 but the wiggle room starts at 8:35

@@jameia4137 no what I mean is the day actually starts at 8:35 but you can be in by 8:30 and get away with it. If you're in any later than 8:30 you're late and if you come in past 8:35 you're alright but try to be earlier if you can. It also defends the company or place you work at because they are accommodating for ADHD since they do legally have to accommodate for ADHD and even if this doesn't come into the category of things they have to do they could get in trouble if she has a good lawyer

Is that not already the case? At least where I love, the school clocks ring at 8:10 but everyone needs to be in class before 8:15 because à 8:15 the teacher comes in and starts the class, so the time to be in is 8:10 but you have 5 minutes to get to class.
And even tho they didn't have it, why don't you make the wiggle room yourself? If you know that work starts at 8:35, why don't you tell yourself you need to be there at 8:30?
I'm a college student, from home to school it doesn't take long, but I need to take the train, if I want to be "right on time" I'll be there at 10:15/10:20 when class starts at 10:15 thanks to the train and bus, but I struggle with the idea of being "right on time", makes me anxious and being five minutes late makes me cry. So I always take a train earlier, even if that means being at school at 9:20 and having to wait an entire hour. I don't like it, but what do I have to do? Sue the train because it makes me be late? The bus? The school? We all have to create our own way to deal with time. It's not easy for anyone and if you need wiggle room, create your own wiggle room so you can feel comfortable.

1:19 girlllll I'd say literally set alarms for like hours earlier if need be like alarms come on and get there earlier I set alarms for medication and if I need to get to a doctors appointment or something then I even set one for liek 45 minutes before hand (I live literally 5-15 mins away depending if there's a train or not that cuts through my town)
