In this interview we elaborated about the trotro business in Ghana | Financial Breakdown | Process Breakdown | Ghana Twi Tutorials
Mr Thomas Osei a tro tro driver who has been in this business for over 20 years shared his experience and also gave us all the details.
The trotro business in Ghana is a tough game; it tries the owner’s patience, negotiation skills and street-smartness as he tries to get the best financial benefit and road-life out of the bus. The search for a trustworthy and experienced driver is one huge hurdle one has to surmount in this business. Identifying which route to ply one’s trade often lies in the hands of the owner but can also directly impacts the search for a driver, where the bus will ‘sleep’ after a day on the road among other things.

He sounds sincere and looks hard working. I have a driver like him, who has really helped build my transport business. He personally took money from me and bought Hyundai Grace in 2017 and trust me he handled it as his own. Last year we were able to purchase a Sprinter bus. All credit goes to him👍. I hardly see the car but my sales never fails. Good drivers make the business worthwhile but drivers will kill your dreams... Nice interview Prince

There is more to this. My husband nd I got a toyoya hance from europe nd after the seat nd other installation to make it suitable for trotro.
we spent almost 87000. And after those small expense like tyre changing, catriage , oil ,spraying nd all that really takes some of the money on daily sales.
Last month whole sales was used for tyre changing nd some maintainace nd other stuff.
So is not all rosy like that.
Car that is used for trotro need more maintainace

This was just an interview with a driver so others can understand the agreement between both entities.

Best way, hire a driver and a mate and be a permanent passenger on the bus, or be the mate and hire a driver. It’s your money. Get a good mechanic, and yes, you investment will pay off.

My question is who buys the fuel if the car owner doesn't want work and pay

    • @Fofoofotv
      @Fofoofotv  Před 9 měsíci

if its not work and pay. then the fuel needs to be disscused properly between the car owner and the driver. Some drivers will take responsibility of the fuel and in that case their weekly or daily sales needs to be small. And if the owner is going to take responsibility of everything including fuel then the sales amount needs to be huge. So its on a one on one basis.

On the high end, the maths don't add up 180cedi per day x 365 days in a year= 65,700cedi per year
Not taking into consideration maintenance cost. Customs clearance cost. Dvla sticker cost. Paying drivers and mates. Toll both cost. Driver giving you stories cost regarding accounts cost. Cost of trusting.
In conclusion doesn't sound rosy as it means do the maths before you jump into it.

    • @Fofoofotv
      @Fofoofotv  Před 2 lety +1

most drivers dont work the whole 365 days in the year they work 5 or 6 days in a week. And with the pricing too i included a buffer to cover all those little costs. The driver is meant to pay the mate and not the owner.
Anyways i give these pricing so give you guys an idea as to how much you will have to invest to venture into the business, of cos these costings can be abit higher or lower but i try to give a close estimate.

hmmm that's one of the biggest challenges in the transportation industry. finding a trusted driver to handle your vehicle.
Work and Pay business model is the best. it protects you the owner.

•Did you understand the model of the business first?
•Install a tracker and regularly meet to inspect the car.
Trust me there is a lot of gaps in the transport sector . Which we Enterprenuers can fill in but it will require a lot of discipline from us.
Through this channel I understood a lot of things and I interview drivers (Uber) whether I have a car available or not and I understand how the minds of drivers work.
This guy is honest I think.

Just be careful when you at abroad be careful.
You will send a car like Nissan Urvan with in the government guidelines like you bought the car with in the year of the car in this case you ok.
But after shipping the car to Tema Port that’s when yo will smell the pepper.
Say yo bought the car in Germany for 10000 dollars.
You arrive at Tema bought you will pay 3 times the cost of the car.
In this case you end up paying 30000 dollars.
If you argue with them it will be another problem.
I will say it again be careful lots of people loose thier cat Tema Port just because they over price the amount you suppose to pay to take your car at the port.
You will loose your car at the port how can you buy a car for 10000 dollars and pay custom duty of 30000 dollars at Tema Port?
Save your money if you are at Abroad I have many friends who just leave the car at the port and walk away.
The custom officers take the car for themselves.
They will overcharge the custom duty I repeat if you don’t know anyone at Tema port you will loose your car.
Try it and you will understand what am talking about!

Thanks so much for your great insight Jahwurah and i totally agree with you. i always tell people so use an agent when they are importing cars from outside to Ghana, cos if you don't have any experience and you also don't know anyone at the harbour then forget cos you might go through hell if and pay heavy duties if you are not careful. Once again thanks for the heads up.
