They went and designed a bike with such special lines, with innovative angles, with a beautiful TFT screen and all these electronics, and yet the key they used is the same as 20 years ago!! If you own a Yamaha scooter, or a Yamaha R1 you get the exactly same boring key! Congrats for the thinking!

+Berserk Gaming UK I'd automatically say Yamaha is "better" just based on my lack of trust in German engineering for anything but performance and luxury. Quality, not so much. However, I hear people like the warranty so maybe that works for you.
yeah, i love the bmw but i have a 2010 yamaha r1 black and gold with akrapovic slip on cans and i was thinking about trading in my r1 and paying a bit for one of the two bikes. I don't do trackriding as i would never take a new bike on the track and i just don't have time. I ride out and about and occasionally have some fun on the motorways and the bypass. I'm really not sure i love them both but can't get over the front end of the r1, the circular lights look really bad but i do like the strips of LEDs or what ever they are lol!
Brake need to get worn in brand new your brake pads are new
+Joe Doc There is a wear in procedure for new brakes. Check the manufacturer for the instructions! When in doubt read the instructions! ;)

hey Ak47s news flash the r1 does come with the quickshifter. The only one that doesn't is the r1s.

I remember years ago when I saw this video. Last year in December I bought a 2018 R1. I got videos on my channel of my R1, but this video inspired me to get mine brand new at the end of the year back in 2018. $2,400 off msrp yup!

The display is so awesome, i want one for my 2014 lol. I wish they did a little better on the appearance of the front on the 2015's, the tail is pretty bad ass though.
Ha! 25 years later, and the shape of the key didn't really change! My '90 Yamaha has a key in that same styling.
the power: excellent for 1000cc, torque: good. 1 thing... are the advanced electronics really necessary? for a daily ride... like you will care the traction control, the G-forces when u go to the work? i don't think so.

Dude... with no mileage on the bike, the pads are green... you need to do some heavy braking from at least 80 down to about 10 mph to get the pads cooked up so they work. You said the brakes needed to be better... did they improve as you used them?

My 03 R1 was like that. It was really tame until you hit 8-9k rpm then that’s when you have to hold one 😅

The pads aren't even worn in yet is probably why the braking didn't feel as good as expected. You gotta get through that first layer lol

theak47s just for the record both 2015 YZF-R1 and YZF-R1 come equip with a quick shifter the only one that doesn't ha e it is the YZF-R1S
Really looks like your trying to emulate chaseontwowheels with that video editing bro lol try taking wide stills of the bike and pan in your editing software instead of walking with the camera it'll make ur slider shots look way smoother

"Accelerometer" is the word you were looking for lol. Also, it does have a quickshifter.
How much more comfortable the R1 is compared to the R6? For both the driver and the passenger. I've heard the seat is a little bit larger and so it's more comfortable

this might be a stupid question, but how do you get to try out this bike? if you own it then ok, but i see youtube videos of people test-driving bikes that arent theirs.. how can you do that? my bike dealerships basically never lets us test drive bikes, and defenitly not new bikes.

To anyone who complains about the R1's new headlights AND blames Yamaha:
You should all know that Yamaha is NOT to blame for the lazy-looking bulbs they stuck on the front. It is American Legislation that the headlights (or bulbs specifically) being used on the motorcycle must be circular and must conform to a certain minimum dimension/size in order to be legally sold and rode on American streets.
Yamaha is NOT to blame, guys- My American fucking government fucked it up! Just saying!
would it be dumb to get this as a first bike, ive been riding dirtbikes my entire life and i want to make it on to the street this year. i know most would say get a 600 over this but i know id be able to handle it? anyone with experience have a suggestion

You know the R1 does have slipper clutch and there is no need for you lift off the gas and get back on to shift gears. That's what a slipper is for.
Flash to pass? Pretty sure that's a lap trigger if I remember hearing correctly yea?
I still just don't get those headlights.....They look as if the designers built the bike, then went "Oh, shit....we forgot the headlights." and stuck them in. Apart from that, even though it's taken a long time, the rest of the bike is growing on me. I have an original R1, and everywhere you look, on this new model, you can still see the influence of it's original conception.
On that bike he doesn't have to be in 3rd gear to go as fast as he is, it can hit 90 in 1st if he pushes it
What's your current bike or bike that you're used to riding? Just curious if you've ever ridden a previous gen crossplane R1 or if this reaction to the power is what you would get with any modern liter bike. I'd love to do a test ride of a 2015 to see how different the power is from my '12, but nobody gives test rides around here.

Newer bike mirrors are useless. Found that out on my 09 ER-6N and 14 Ninja 1000 but my trusty 01 vfr's are great. Pill shape mirrors may not be cool looking but they work.

Are there any differences between the 2015 R1 and the 2016 R1? I'm going in on tuesday to buy a 2015 R1 but am willing to spend the extra $$$ if the 2016 R1 has something to offer... But I can't find any differences except a minor decal change on the front of the bike and the transmission issue ( Which will be fixed if i buy the 2015 model).
No break in lol.. Of course it's gonna feel a little different. You're supposed to be easy on brand new bikes for the first couple thousand miles
Brakes will probably get a lot better as the pads bed in and everything.
@14:50 these bikes are made to be ridden at 4k rpm and than it need to be ridden at 12k rpm?.Can you explain this,you siad both
