I use stainless tubing and all thread. 4 mil or 8/32 fits in 4 mil tubing.
I have done a few links in my couple years of hobby.. i've used m4 threaded rod and then sleeved it with aluminium or copper tube. With traxxas revo rod ends. So far so good, as i live in a small 1 room apartment i limit the amount of powertools i use.
Definitely easier that way. I’ve also seen guys use 8-32 all-thread with brake line over the outside- still easier for us over here to get standard all-thread than metric, sadly.
@@CrawlerCanyon i live in a metric country, you ofcourse use whatever is available. And the copper tube i use is made for break lines, easy enough to work
That's the way I do it too, for my smaller scale stuff. Have yet to make some for my 10th scale, but it's an easy and cheap way to do it. For my SCX24s I've made high clearance links that way, using m2 threaded brass rod and 4mm OD 2mm ID brass tube, and it works awesome. :)
Nice! I'll certainly make those brass ones. So, the links, do they count as sprung or unsprung waight 🤔
Do you have a suggestion for good rod ends? Those balls you put in there.
I believe they're unsprung, as they're below the shocks. My favorite rod ends are the angled Element ones, ASC42040.
For hollow balls, I prefer brass over anything else, and the cheaper the better. I've bought SO many packs of Yeah Racing YEA-AXSC-010. At least half the rigs in here are using those.

Hasn’t really been on my radar as it’s definitely a trail truck more than a crawler, but if one gets near the Canyon, I’d certainly give it a run through.

Show us how you make some of those custom chassis rails! How do you get the holes drilled with precision? I'm toying with the idea of building a long wheel base crawler based rc. Custom chassis rails are not out of the question but not anything I've done before.
Stack the rails and clamp. Measure mark and then Measure again then drill. Dont take the clamps off until your finished
I'm pretty sure I covered the whole fab process in one of the Vanimal videos, but I can definitely do a refresh for a Fab Lab installment.
For accuracy, I just use a drill press-- and the secret sauce, which isn't so secret-- is that I clamp the plates together and drill both sides at once.

Also I bought a brat body after seeing the one you've used and its huge. Im going to have to buy a 10.3 just to fit that body on something

Not including and Redcat product ownership where would you rate Colonel Mustard on the scale of disappointment?
Not as bad as you would think, actually. The "standard" 10.3 is my least favorite Axial platform, and the AR45P is my least favorite axle, so at this point we're just moving laterally. The thing is, I think the Colonel can only get better with some tuning and tire selection, so I'm still at least positive about it.
Redcat on the other hand... to paraphrase those old DARE anti-drug ads from my youth, "Redcat... not even once."

Before I pull out the calipers, are you looking for "shoulder to shoulder," which is the length of the exposed link not including the rod ends, or "eye to eye," which is from mounting point to mounting point?
