I see what you mean because Run DMC did introduced the new school of rap and ushered in a new sound but in my humble opinion the paradigm shift is when Rakim came into the scene. Rakim modernized rap and elevated it to its highest point even before the artichects that came before him were introducing new concepts as the genre was growing. There's really a " Before Rakim and After Rakim".
This performance aired August 24, 1985...almost from the date this was recorded. As far as rap goes on Bandstand, Sugar Hill was the first Rap Act to appear on the show in 1981 as well as the first rap song ever played in 1980. Many times did rap records get played in Rate A Record and most times won. Truthfully there are only a handfull of rappers who appears (LL Cool J was on 3 times, Beastie Boys 2 times, DMC and Kurtis Blow 1 time and a few more)
After RUN-D.M.C. released ''Raisin' Hell,'' you couldn't go down a single block without hearing some track from off of it coming out of somebody's ride. I'm also glad this version has the guitar riffs in it. NICE
Never saw this back in the 80s, I would often check who was gonna be on AB just in case they would have a rap/hip hop act. I remember the Beastie Boys being the only time I saw rappers on that show, it was before hip hop broke into the mainstream. The whole genre was an underground music scene much like punk rock This is a remix version of Jam Master Jammin done by Rick Rubin, his first work with Run DMC then Raising Hell
WOW !!! I JUST THOUGHT OF THIS IN MY HEAD AND DIDN'T EXPECT TO SEE A live PERFORMANCE ON BANDSTAND.. i DON'T REMEMBER THIS LOL..... THE FORCE AND THE POWER COMING HOUR AFTER HOUR... SO GET UP OF THE WALL DON'T YOU BE A WALL FLOWER !..... LMAO BECAUSE THAT'S ME, I AINT GOING TO THIS PARTY TONITE IF IM NOT GONNA DANCE LOL CTFU
besides dancing..and they used rock music in their beats that made them so big...they was RAPPERS...something thay not exist no more..they just still use the term..so their dancin move even kill jay z, lil wayne drake and all them...cause they NOT rappers (or dancers) lol
AB may go back to the 50s but rap as we know it today does not, bright guy. Rappers on AB, back then, was rare, but you knew that. Uh, apparently you didn't!!!
Another newsflash, just cause you were aound means nothing bright guy. AB had not come up to the age of Rap Music yet. DUH!!! So yeah, It was before AB's time ina sense that AB arrely if ever had rappers on the show. Half the audience looks lost. Your resposne tells me all I need to know. You really dont understand. DUH!!!!
Apparently too deep for you. Those of us who know about the rap game and was there when it all kick off know what I am talking about. Not the wanna Be like you probably are.
The greatest Hip Hop group of all time !
Still one of the greatest rap groups ever. There is two eras or rap: Before Run-DMC and after RUN-DMC

@OzSignal You are welcome.
@1:42 Apparently RUN either pulled something out of his ass and threw it into the crowd, or he wipes "back to front".
