I just recently started watching and I gotta say Fatality has a fantastic mindset when he plays - complimenting his opponent rather than complaining.

Fatality isn’t a random player in these online tourneys. This was a brutal reminder of what could happen when a wifi warrior like chunky clashes w a top player. He’s still sick against random WiFi nerds though.
Don't forget that Fatality has also been the one to get curb-stomped, in his own best of 10's.
That's not always the case, I've seen a lot of "Wifi warriors" being able to beat a top player. Watch ESAM v.s. ShinyMark FT10 Pika ditto as an example.
Lets completely ignore the fact dk vs falcon is a terrible matchup for dk. No dk will ever beat falcon at griffin's level no matter how good you get.
This is a 6-4 matchup if we're being generous. Meaning the 4 would have to play 50% better than the 6 to match pace.
This is all true. I won’t refute that the matchup is very bad. But I’ve seen chunky dominate pikas and young links and a number of other bad characters that are atrocious match ups. I was just noting that when he clashes with a top player it plays out like it should. ESPECIALLY the top falcon.

This is why watching pro players is so interesting, Fatality did a first to 10 against DKWill to long ago. If you know about DKWill you know he’s used DK through every iteration of Smash bros Competitively since Brawl, he is always in the lab with this character, giving DK mains new tech to use throughout years. Seeing that DKWill still did better, still isn’t a surprise but comes to show how experienced he is as a player. As for Chunky, from what I know he’s another young prodigy (14, 16, idk I just know he’s young), he’s been running a rampage at locals and especially in online tournaments. He’s a very talented player, and does very well utilizing DK’s brutal combos and conversions, he kinda reminds me of Hikaru in the way he plays the character. Even though Chunky didn’t win as much as DKWill, and given the fact that DKWill has just more experience against a player such as Fatality; Chunky is still very young and has time to grow in his playstyle. Though their is one thing that still hold true, and it’s literally the last sentence that Fatality says in this video, “This matchup is brutal for DK.”
I think chunky relies a lot on gimmicks in general, donkey Kong is really an explosive character so getting hit by a couple of gimmicks becomes a massive damage output. He doesn't control neutral as well as dkwill either. But overall, chunky is a great player who still has a lot of potential for the future. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the near future
@@HELLO-mx6pt Glad you pointed that out, an over reliance on gimmicks can really only take you so far. If Chunky can at least change his pace playing more defensive like using his tilts and bairs to space out his opponents, and also just waiting to use “Giant Punch”, giving his opponent more anticipation for the move, as well as using it when it’s appropriate. I don’t think he hit a single one on Fatality in this set.
@@inspektorblacket2356 indeed, the gimmicks can only take you that far. And you're totally right, maybe playing a bit mroe defensive at times would help. Now, some could argue that what you do in these matchups (those that seem unwinnable) you should be as aggressive as possible, but the problem with that mentality is that it makes you really predictable. If you watch the video, the few times that chunky got early kills were when he stopped for a bit and didn't get as close to fatality, capitalizing on the fact that dk has quite a bit of range. This is still a crazy hard matchup and I have huge respect for chunky in that regard since he didn't really waver thru the set.
Those chain up-air into knee reminds me of how good CF up-airs are since SSB64. I wish reverse up-air had similar launch distance as 64.

First time watching chunky, he may be good but his gameplay resumes into a developed "wifi DK", hopefully he adapts later on or he will face some disappointments when online era dies. Hate to compare but DKWill's gameplay is so much more solid and neutral-based.
ChunkyKong at his best is a 50/50 mix of the most brilliant galaxybrain plays of any DK, and the absolutely worst most braindead choices
This video, I noticed some suboptimal habits he's built that he refused to change, like never upBing out of combos and just mashing upair and hoping itd work, as well as some bad on-stage upBs
Also his downB usage on stage had an unusually high percent of really bad moments to hold it longer, some of which luckily went unpunished for him
He also seemed to have a pretty bad dash back and b reverse habit. To the point where it’s so incredibly predictable.

7:41 This was such a good sequence of reads by Chunky and I weep that the final Giant Punch was just slightly too early.
I feel like ChunkyKong played too patiently at moments he could have been more aggressive. As a DK main primarily myself (but also surely very inexperienced compared to Chunky), I want to say that Chunky could have converted the Dash Attacks he landed into Attack Canceled RAR Bairs and could have attempted to edge-guard Fatality more often from above ledge by 2-framing him with landing Dair (though that can prove difficult to time).
That being said, it seems this is a very oppressive matchup in Falcon's favor when considering the peak potential of each character.
