  • Georgetown University is one of the country’s top-ranked schools and has a roughly $1.6 billion endowment. But in 1838, the university was facing financial ruin. So the Jesuit priests, who ran Georgetown, sold 272 enslaved people to three plantations in Louisiana for $115,000 - or the equivalent of about $3.3 million in today’s dollars to keep their doors open. That’s how the ancestors of DaVita Robinson, Valerie White, Maxine Crump - all descendants of the 272 and featured in the Video Op-Ed above - ended up in Louisiana.
And now, they may become the first people in the history of the United States to receive reparations for slavery.
In 2019, Georgetown students pushed the school to create a reparations fund. Georgetown has promised to raise $400,000 per year to go toward descendants of the enslaved people it sold. With more than 8,000 known descendants living today, is the school’s fund even close to what’s owed?

My Grandfather worked with a largely black work crew and they pounded steel with sledge hammers. My grandpa told me when. I was young that all the bones in his hand were shattered when a sledgehammer missed its mark! Back then you worked long hours and did not get paid any extra for overtime or weekends. If the boss told you to come to work on a Saturday, you came to work and they did not pay you any extra pay or overtime! As a child my Grandparents taught us to respect all people regardless of skin color and ESPECIALLY black people because they LIVED in the black community together. When you live with people in close proximity it's hard to demonize them based on race, because it's hard to treat people unfairly that you live with.

ITS NOT FREE MARKET ECONOMIC FORCES AT WORK, ITS BECAUSE IF INTEREST RATES GO UP VERY MUCH THE USA WONT BE ABLE TO PAY THE INTEREST ON OUR DEBT!!

I also feel for everyone who has been dealt injustices in the past but again- that is past!!
So, you claim to care about decendents of slaves( but of course, only black ones I'd guess)
Yet, claim to be well off and don't need help.
Still, the reality is- if such a reparation was offered, law would require anyone seeking to submit a DNA sample, be given an official photo ID to end the bs claim of voter suppression and require a physical place of residence.
This would be a benefit to law-
      So after
millions submit, thousands of unsolved crimes may be opened again and those individuals would get summons to come get a check but instead get cuffs and those that don't come now have given their address- knock, knock.
So, obviously you don't care about decendents of slaves but only yourself-
      Here's a tip to success;
The most powerful citizens of this country are called the silent majority and for a reason, we get our strength by keeping the government OUT of our lives and taking care of our own interests which in turn bennifits everyone's interests.

It also compensated Native American tribes about $1.3 billion between 1946 and 1978 for seizing their land. All of us, whether guilty or not, whether old or young, must accept the past. We are all affected by its consequences. Reparations are not punitive…They’re restorative. Reparations should accomplish three things: acknowledgement, restitution, and closure. California’s “Reparations Task Force” has recommended giving California’s descendants of slavery more than $200, 000 each.
This will cost the tax payer close to $ 570 billion!
This isn’t reparations to slaves. It’s to the descendants of slaves.
What about someone who’s half white? Does he get half the money and the white half gets taxed??
What about the black descendants of black Americans that owned slaves? Oh, you didn’t know? Yes, American blacks owned black slaves, so did native tribes.
Most American whites didn’t own slaves and there are plenty of white immigrants to the US that never owned slaves.
Why should people who never owned slaves give money to people who never were slaves??
Should California be sending off reparations to the descendants of soldiers who were killed in the Civil War?
But the legacies of slavery argument? It’s nonsense. I looked at the data. Yes, it surprised me.
The achievement and income gap is not the result of systemic oppression or the legacy of slavery. It’s a myth.
How do I know? Blacks were rapidly narrowing the achievement gap in the 1940s and 50’s.
Remember, this is before the victories of the Civil Rights movement!
This progress stalled and in some cases reversed after leftist social welfare policies. This led to the breakdown of the black family, generational welfare dependency, illegitimacy, academic failure, high levels of violent crime.
Hope you’ll check out my book “Deconstructing Social Justice”. I provide the evidence and the data. I also expose the lies of the other ‘social justice’ initiatives.

They say that there are negative outcomes for those that are decedents of slavery....lol This has to be one of the biggest piles of BS I have ever heard. Most humans, if they trace their lineage back, can find an ancestor who experienced slavery no matter the color of their skin. I don't see them wallowing in a pit of their own self-misery waiting for a hand out. How do you get that I was whining here when I was simply pointing out the incessant whining of others? So you obviously feel black people somehow own historical atrocity? You feel black people are the only people to have suffered on this planet throughout human history? Or maybe they are just the first group to live in the lap of luxury compared to the rest of the world but still find something to complain about constantly and blame all their woes on others rather than showing an ounce of character and realizing they are themselves to blame for much of what they blame others for.

We suffered through sharecropping, segregation, Jim Crow, the civil rights movement teardown, the crack era, and currently mass incarceration and police brutality not to mention all of the socioeconomic factors at play that reinforce the system. @@ELLYNOVAPRODUCTIONS To answer your first question regarding blame and I generalize here as I realize this only applies to a portion of the community but when people teach their kids white people are the reason for all their problems, when people teach their kids not to trust the police, when people distrust the education system and put little emphasis on it, when the kids of those people consistently act out in school, when people have such a feeling of entitlement they believe they deserve something for nothing, etc, etc then the outcome for that group is not going to be a good one. Now someone might look at this list and say that some of those feelings are justified but the statistics don't support that narrative. By the way, I love when you describe your kids. I think that would make a leftists head explode or they would just tell them their white side is oppressing the black side. ;)

@@davidearle7209 If you are actually the person to live through real hardship due to discrimination then sure I can get behind some form of reparations, not the relatives thereof. Now in regards to reparations one can look at the billions and billions spent through government programs that has been funneled into black communities since the 60's and say that is a form of reparations, some could say that while systemically r@cist, affirmative action was a form of reparations, some could say that lower entrance marks required from black students to get into university is a form of reparations, etc, etc. In regards to the list you provided, I disagree with your assertion that crack was somehow an assault on the black community seeing how most of its manufacture and distribution was from within. Who is discriminating against the white population today with opioids?. I also have a problem with the narrative around mass incarceration, do you actually think that in the modern era the justice system on every level locked up blacks because they did nothing? And in regards to higher sentencing, the greatest portion of these accusations can be easily explained by circumstance of arrest or prior arrest history or access to good legal representation and the list goes on and on. Police brutality in the modern era is also a myth when you look at the statistical data rather than narrative driven "news" broadcasters. You should look up a study done by a black professor from Harvard named Roland Fryer which debunks many of the police myths in regards to brutality against the black community, especially the white on black variety. Even the myth of police targeting black people in traffic stops is not reflected in the statistics which show that the rate in which people in the US are pulled over is almost exactly the same proportion to the population representation of each ethnic group. Let me ask you this, in the "system" today how is a black person held back more than a white person? You do realize that black people, at one time or another, have held every position of power within the system of power? So the same system that is supposedly holding black people back has allowed black people to hold great power within it.....do you see how this line of thinking makes no sense?

So of course poverty is not *litterally* transmitted genetically, but it is hereditary.

hmmm...that's $400,000 more than blacks have paid to the descendants of the 2,000,000 white people enslaved in North Africa during the Barbary period. Not a red cent. Nor an apology. Nor one moment wallowing in black guilt.

BLACK AMERICANS OWNED BLACK SLAVES ALSO. SO BLACK AMERICANS WILL HAVE TO GET REPARATIONS FROM OTHER BLACK AMERICANS AS WELL. LOOK AT THIS VIDEO OF A FREED BLACK SLAVE WHO BOUGHT 68 SLAVES AND FORCED THEM TO BREED AND WORK FOR HIM czcams.com/video/Ab93DYcqrP8/video.html Of course slavery is a blessing to black Americans today who have the chance that 1 Billion AFricans in Africa desperately want, to live in America. The average yearly income in Africa is $1600. The average yearly income for black Americans is $44,000.
Numerous freed black slaves bought and owned black slaves themselves.
-The man in this video, William Ellison, black, owned 68 slaves and was the 9th richest man in south Carolina.
-John Corruthers Stanley, black, owned 164 slaves and bred them.
-Abraham Cotillier, black, fought in the revolutionary war out of Yorktown, along side his son of the same name and cousin Christopher Francis. Owned 16 slaves.
-Chris Francis, black was taxed on 11 slaves, one white.
-Census and tax records show an abundance of free black slaves who bought and owned slaves themselves in Henrico, VA, Mecklenburg, NC, and Charles Parrish, LA.
-Native Americans also bought and owned black slaves.

@Esther A Your reparations are that you hit the jackpot in getting to live in America today, as bad as slavery was for your ancestors. 1 Billion of your cousins in Africa desperately want to trade places with you. Africans make $1600 a year on average. Black Americans make $44,000 a year on average. You will also have to sue private people and not the government for any reparations, because the American government never enslaved black people. And maybe the descendants of the 250,000 white men who gave their lives and died to free the black slaves during the civil war should sue black Americans as well? 300,000 black Africans were brought to America as slaves. 250,000 white men died to free the slaves in the civil war. You got a tremendous blessing from those 250,000 white men who died so that you could have a very good financial income today as a free American citizen.

1#. HEIR. At common law. A person who succeeds, by the rules of law , to an estate in lands, tenements, or hereditaments, upon the death of his ancestor, by descent and right of relationship. The term “heir” has a very different signification at common law from what it has in those states and countries which have adopted the civil law. In the latter, the term is indiscriminately applied to all persons who are called to the succession, whether by the act of the party or by operation of law. The person who is created universal successor by a will is called the “ testamentary heir; “ and the next of kin by blood is, in cases of in testacy, called the “ heir at law,” or “ heir by intestacy.” The executor of the common law in many respects corresponds to the testamentary heir of the civil law. Again, the administrator in many respects corresponds with the heir by intestacy. By the common law, executors and administrators have no right except to the personal estate of the deceased; whereas the heir by the civil law is authorized to administer both the personal and real estate.
