Testing my competition style ribs on the Weber Searwood XL!

  • I've never been one to be a competitive barbecue guy. But if I was going to be in an accredited competition, what would my ribs look like? This past weekend I attended the ‎@GrillwithWeber Masterclass in Lombard, IL! I picked up a few competition nuggets from the 6 time grand champion TUFFY STONE! He made some delicious competition ribs on the New Weber Searwood XL. So I decided to do the same and use a few of his techniques. and I just so happen to have a brand new Searwood XL fired up and ready to go!

    Just bought a Weber xl 600 upgrading from a cheap 200.00 electric master class hopefully the Weber blows my cheap smoker out of the water.

    apple cider vinegar should absolutely not be used for foil wrapping as it "dissolves" part of the aluminum which inevitably contaminates part of the food.

      I only use Apple juice. But thanks for that tip. I've seen some use it.

    If you want to win perfect your own style. Tuffy is good. Not competing much anymore.

      I understand that but in order to perfect a style you must understand other styles. I'm not a competitioon guy but my ribs can take out the majority of the competition ribs I have had. Im truly trying to figure out which competition techniques I can do that works best. Thanks for the input!

    Pellet grills do not put that authentic smoke flavor in your food, especially pork and beef chicken it does fine

      I disagree not sure which ones u have used. But I cook on a stick burner primarily and my Kettles. The Smokefire and the searwood give great smoke! Not as prevalent as wood and coal but definitely gives an authentic smoke and smoke ring

      Sold! Grabbing a Searwood XL ASAP! Those ribs looked 🔥🔥🔥 With two LE Redhead kettles, Smokey Joe and a Genesis Gold gasser, I’m a gonna be running out of room! Summit Charcoal is also on the want list! Nice work here!
