Nowadays, we have ‘Christian’ prophets & ‘apostles’ who are bringing what they believe is new revelation to countless Christian churches.
There is even a new Bible ‘translation’, written by one of them, a translation that has become VERY popular! It’s called the Passion Translation, written by a man named, Brian Simmons.
Unfortunately, people don’t realize that the author has no training/education in linguistics. He claims that the ‘Angel of Passion’ gives him the translation and, -oh,- he may even be given another additional book to the Gospel of John!
This translation is the go-to translation for hyper-charismatic New Apostolic Reformation churches/centers. And, of course, he is now considered an ‘apostle’.

Great talk. I love that James Tabor is open to Apocrypha and even Gnostic Christian sources. As a Muslim, its obvious that Muhammad was educated on Gnostic Christian and/or Ebionite teachings. There's references to them throughout the Qur'an. Islam is very Gnostic in many ways, specifically Christian Gnostic. Muhammad was educated on religion by an older relative who was either a Gnostic or Ebionite.
People hate Paul and even claim he was a Roman loyalist that helped sabotage the Jewish revolt by opposing the Christians. I think thats possible. Some even claim he was the same figure as Josephus. That I would love to hear Tabor mull over.

I am not a scholar but just a little fish in this pold of history of religion, but personally I do not think Ebionites had someting to do with Islam. Islam is massively influenced by Paul. Paul was the guy who started to believe average people can go to heaven (Paul didn´t believe in hell, but Muhammad did, but it´s because he was familiar with the later theology of Christianity, where hell already is). He was the one who made Jesus movement an universal religion available for non-Jews and Muhammad did the same, when he accepted non-Arabs. Ebionites rejected virgin birth of Jesus, but Muslim believe in it (because Muhammad was familiar with the later theology of Christianity, not because Paul believed in virgin birth). I am not sure but I think Ebionites even believed in crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, but Muhammad didn´t. People think Muhammad had to be in contact with theology of Ebionites because they both didn´t believe in divity of Jesus and they were still following Jewish customs (kosher and circumcision), but Paul believed Jesus was fully human so the only similiarty is following of Jewish customs and we know Muhammad was in contact with Jews and the hadith and the Qur'an were compiled in a dubious manner during the power struggles of the Umayyad Caliphate so there are other ways how could following of Jewish customs get into Islam. Prophet Muhammad didn´t mention Paul or James, bother of Jesus, he didn´t join their dispute.
The more I learn about the apostle Paul, the more I discover how much he influenced Islam. I can't list everything here because I can't remember everything right now, but I would like to thank Dr. James Tabor for covering this topic because I never would have figured it out without him. I know that I myself mentioned Muhammad was in contact with later version of Christianity and that´s why he believed in the hell and virgin birth so he would believe also in divinity of Jesus, because it is part of later version of Christianity, right? Well, when you look into the Quran, you can find many offshoots of early Christianity, especially their apocryphal gospels. You can see that Muhammad was in contact with different Christianities and Islam is a bit of a mix of them all. If he was only in contact with the theology of the Pauline letters, some apocryphal gospels (for example, the Infancy Gospel of Thomas) and some other sources containing hell and the virgin birth, then he would probably not even know that anyone considered Jesus to be God. When he learned of Collyridianism, with its special holy trinity, he automatically condemned it as a heresy violating monotheism, and marveled that anyone could believe in it. The Holy Trinity is still incomprehensible to many people.
I think that main difference in theology of Paul and Muhammad is that Muhammad firstly believed in Paul´s theology of salvation threw suffering, but he stopped in Medina. After years of seeing people follow him to death and seeing the suffering of his community, he had enough and decided to fight back. Jesus and Muhammad were in different positions. Jesus was judged alone, his followers were not judged with him, Muhammad´s community was. When Jesus would be caught, he alone would be killed, he only had responsibility for himself, this doesn´t work in Muhammad´s case. And Jesus and his community believed it doesn't matter anyway because the God´s intervention comes soon, because apocalyptism was a big thing in their time. But in the times of Muhammad, the judgement day didn´t come in nearly 700 year since death of Jesus. I know that many historians believe that Muhammad's community was also apocalyptic, and I also believe that it was, from the beginning when he fully believed in Paul's theology, but he changed his mind in Medina. When Muhammad saw the end of times is not gonna come soon and the Meccans did not give them rest even when they were in Medina and he has resposibility for all these people who follow him, he had quandary. He could run like the last time from Mecca, but Meccans would follow them. He coul still believe in the near end of times and non-violent way of life of Jesus and let him and other people suffer to get salvation, but he stopped to believe in those things. He didn´t want to see his community dying anymore, why should anyone suffer to go to heaven? And stopped believing in being absolutely non-violent, and that in the case of self-defense is violence acceptable.
I remember when I was driving with a Muslim friend from Kazakhstan and he asked me who Pul was. I answered him that an apostle, he asked me "Was he really an apostle?" I was like "Dude, you Muslims can call him prophet Paul, you have absolutely no idea how influential he was (in Islam)" and I also think Christians can call Prophet Muhammad, Muhammad the apostle, because with his theology that violence is accepteble in case of self-defense and people don´t have to suffer to go to heaven would agree the most of Christians.

He's just more narcissistic and focused on his mission. He says he had his own revelation which is a great excuse for a narcissist. But it's the same story men, the same one

Human nature tells that Peter and James were complicit in Paul’s arrest leading to his martyrdom. That sect never accepted him and would not have even if Paul adhered to the Law.. Paul had enemies after Stephen’s stoning. On the other hand, James was stoned for what was considered as Paul’s betrayal. That’s my take.

James accepted Paul and Gentiles just enough because Paul arrived with all that money. Not to say he lined his pockets. But James (and those who likely pressured him) knew how money could be useful to the cause. When Paul got arrested and eventually executed. There had to be an uproar and resentment.

What is a lifetime? A breath or two, and then it's gone. The Church harmed itself when it allowed the Emperor Justinian to condemn Origen, Origen's writings, in the most hateful terms. What got cut out? Transmigration of souls (reincarnation). Apokatastasis = restitution of all things unto God in the end of the ages (the ultimate return of even satan to God as eternity plays itself out). In other words, no "eternal" hell. Otherwise, Origen surmised, you believe it two gods, not One (my paraphrasing). No reincarnation in the Bible? Matthew 17: 12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. 13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist. Are you wiser than the disciples? Point is, THE END IS NEAR preaching does work if you're considering not many more lives before all these things come to pass. Definitely time to consider "works" and living the straight and narrow. Do "we" have yet another cycle? Doug Vogt puts "the end of the world as we know it" at 2046, October. I completely discounted Remote Viewers reporting a "kill shot" of some sort, and not seeing anyone alive by 2045. But then Vogt came along with his Gleisberg Cycles talk, and I began to seriously wonder. What did Plato say? Ten thousand years before his time there was an advanced culture destroyed. 11,000 years ago we had 4,000 feet of ice over New York State, Washington State. Dial forward about five thousand years, glaciers melting. Time for a Garden of Eden replanting. A 7,000 year scenario unfolds; and here we are very close to what Atlantis went through 12,000 years before. Point is? THE END IS NEAR. It always has been NEAR. And then a New Heaven and New Earth, afterward. Very little time to repent. What is it in the Greek? I can't spell Greek. But it sound like "metanoia". It means real change. Me? I'd rather be playing tennis; working on my chess game. END IS NEAR is a bad hair day to be standing before the Creator, as is. Fresh out of chewing gum. You grok?

I don’t think John the baptized was a literal incarceration of Elijah In Matthew 17. There is incarceration in the Hebrew culture.
The early Christian communities thought the return of Jesus or son of man was eminent. In Matthew 10 Jesus was supposed to have said:
“When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.”
There is no ‘many more lives’ there. The claim was specific and to the point as to the approaching of the end.

I think Paul and most of the 1st century New Testament authors understood that you can’t get around Isaiah 11
    Yeshayahu 11:1-3
And a shoot shall spring forth from the stem of Jesse, and a twig shall sprout from his roots.
And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and heroism, a spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.
And he shall be animated by the fear of the Lord, and neither with the sight of his eyes shall he judge, nor with the hearing of his ears shall he chastise.
You can be god and fear god that the same time lol that I know you can in part attribute it to Hezekiah but Hezekiah only fulfilled part of the chapter not all.

His love for Paul and how he says yeah the other diciples stories. That tone and comment shows how Paul gives Tabor more contradicting insight to write books about and sell since w.e he say...could careless at this point.
Im convinced this man does not know the way. Only has a percieved insight in his own perspective.
