- Today we are having a picnic. First we visit Burger Master where we order up some food and drive down the road to a peaceful spot near the river. We sample some of their more popular items and give you our honest opinion. Can ants ruin this picnic?

My Grandparents lived in the Kinzel Springs area of Townsend. Townsend before the National Park was a lumbermill town and the center of rail connections into the mountains. All the roads you drive on in the park were old narrow guage railroad beds before the Park. Tuckaleeche Cove where Townsend resides, developed some seasonal tourism, but mostly remained agricultural.
My Grandfather (Pawpa in mountain parlence) owned a General store and was friends with the man who owned the campgrounds near the park entrance. I recall his name was J.D. He placed a Put Put Course near the campgrounds and the Burger Meister ( origional name) was built to be a concession for the Put Put course. It was a small chalet shaped concession stand and there was a Live Buffalo in the area behind the place to draw tourist. My Grandfather sold J.D. ( Burger Meister founder) an expensive hunting dog, who wouldn't hunt for J.D, so my Grandfather actually managed the Burger Meister one summer in the early 1970's to mend the friendship.
Townsend has always been popular with campers, and there are several motels. Tourism has increased in recent years, but Townsend lacks a sewer system out of the Cove, which significantly limits the amount of development there.
Thank you for sharing that! I always wondered about the road system and how it was designed in the park. That is an amazing story and personal connection you have. I actually prefer the original name. I also like all the chalet style buildings in the area. I much prefer them to the ultra modern office building style many new buildings going up in the area have. I wish the put put and buffalo were still there, they sound pretty cool. The lack of a sewer system, is a double edge sword, the residents don't have the benefits of a sewage system but less development keeps it more of a peaceful place. I remember when we first got a sewer system where i grew up and we welcomed it with open arms. Again thanks for sharing and we hope you are doing well!
It's nice to go on a picnic sometimes. I grew up camping as a kid both in a camper and in tents. I prefer a tent if you have an air mattress! 😂 We took all 6 of our kids camping regularly. We had 3 tents. 4 king-size air natresses. We'd go for 3-4 days at a time. It got our kids into nature and away from the computers, gaming systems, and tv! 😂 We'd swim and hike and look for small roadside points of interest. It was so much fun! I think y'all should give it a try. We even took 2-3 dogs with us! Maybe Tarzan would enjoy it, ours loved going!
Some roadside burger joints are really good some are just average. This seemed average. It's always nice if you can find one that uses fresh beef and maybe does smash burgers!❤
Thanks for sharing your picnic!
Thanks for watching and leaving such a thoughtful comment, Jill. Camping with a big family like that sounds so fun! I bet you made wonderful memories!
All your videos are great and relaxing. Good music choice
Glad you like them! We enjoy making them and it makes us to happy to hear when folks enjoy watching them! Thanks for watching and commenting, hope your week is off to a great start!
We(my wife and I) just subscribed to your channel…
If you go back the gravel road where the Tremont Institute is….go back a little ways there’s some beautiful pull offs back in the right along the river…Great place for a picnic….and for the most part there’s hardly any traffic back in there. You’ll love it…was one of the highlights of our last vacation….
That's a great tip! Thank you! We are always looking for less crowded places to visit and I don't think we've been down that way. We will definitely check it out on the next trip! Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!
I enjoy your videos very much love fried bologna🎉
Thanks! We love to hear when people enjoy our stuff! That sandwich was great! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ketchup on my onion rings please! Thanks for another great video!!
No problem! To me, you just can't beat plain ol' ketchup with onion rings! I like trying all the different sauces but I've yet to find one better than ketchup! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, have a great afternoon!
I'm from the north and we grew up on bologna. We like ours on sandwiched bread with miracle whip, tomato & lettuce. The side was always a
good handful of potato chips. I'm 66 & still eat it this way. Love your videos.
That sounds yummy! Not too different from what we like in the mountains :) Thanks for watching!
Everything but the Miracle Whip, although I thought it was mayonnaise until I went to a friends house and had real mayonnaise. Miracle Whip was all my mom would buy, so when I started working, I started buying my own mayonnaise. Never looked back…
Apparently Miracle Whip used to be much cheaper than Mayo but that's not the case anymore for some reason. I still buy a jar every now and then though when I crave that tangy zip. lol 😆
You guys are great.
Thank you! We appreciate that so much! Hope you're having a great day!
I agree with the blow up mattress 😊. I used to camp often in my younger years. There is a lot of items you need when tent camping so it can be an initial investment. For that reason I would try some of the camping spots that have the tents already set up for you and everything you need. That way you can both see if it's something you want to invest in and do regularly.
Those are some great suggestions. We didn't know they had spots like that with the tent already set up. We need to look into that. You're right the initial investment can be pretty pricey! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Beautiful setting to enjoy your picnic. Great looking fried bologna sandwich and onion rings. The burger looks like a good down home burger. Great food from Burger Master.
It was! We had a great time in Townsend, we are going to have to plan a time to really explore!
We are definitely NOT campers, Grace is kind of a princess and I haven’t been able to sleep one night in the last 35 years without a fan 😂 We’ll just be boujie and call it camping out when we stay at a motel instead of a hotel!
Hahahahaha! Neither of us have "roughed it" since we were kids....so we'll see, lol!
You all do a wonderful job keep the videos coming 👍
We're glad you enjoy our videos. There is more to come. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video
Thanks! We are having a lot of fun making these and love to hear when others enjoy them too. We truly appreciate you watching and commenting. We hope you have a great afternoon!
Such a sweet comment to your wife. I like ketchup on my onion rings lol
Yes, he is the sweetest! I love him so much! I'm thankful for him every day!
Cool video! The food looks good and I like that y'all had a picnic. Yes, y'all should do some camping trips. We have an rv that we love. Keep the videos coming! Really enjoy them.
We really want to try out some camping! I'm happy to hear that you love your RV. We've thought about renting one sometime to see what we think. What are some of your favorite places to visit in your RV? Thanks for watching, have a great day!
Love a good bologna sandwich 😊 Thanks for sharing, love your videos.
It is tough to beat a good bologna sandwich! 😋Glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Morning Rays. Hope your day and the rest of your week is great for you both and Tarzan. Be safe out there in this crazy world we all live in. Hey…enjoy your picnic. Guess the ants wanted to party with y’all. Lord be.
Good morning Sandra. It is a crazy world out there. You stay safe too. It was a fun picnic. Hope you have a great week. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Yah Stacy people French kiss 💋 😂😂
Hahaha! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Sugar free lemonade is awesome, fried bologna sandwich is classic, lol chocolate ant's maybe, live ant's not sure about those. That's a good looking 🍔. Price for meal isn't ideal but as a treat ok.........Pop up tent that extends off the bed of the truck or back of suv you can find real good one under $500.
Never tried chocolate ants, maybe we will sometime! We need to look for one of those tents for our SUV, that is a great idea! Thanks for watching and commenting!
That fried baloney looked great! If you ever have a chance try Taylor Pork Roll (aka Taylor Ham) it's a New Jersey thing but it's sold here in Virginia. Best thing ever!
I haven't tried it but I have seen in on other food shows. We would love to try it sometime, maybe on our next trip to the Northeast! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, hope you're having a great day!
Stacey, I'm with you. It's okay to eat and drink after each other. AND...now that my wife and I have GRANDkids, we eat/drink after them too. Now, I would not advise eating after the ants. They may leave behind a distasteful residue on the food that is not so appetizing. I guess my wife and I are hillbillies too...or maybe just REALbillies not getting uptight about a bite or drink after each other...after all, we get sugar from each other all the time.
Oh my gosh! I love the term REALbillies! I've never heard that before. That is hilarious....I'm definitely going to start using it! Thanks so much for watching and commenting, have a great evening!
I love me some fried bologna with mustard onion rings ketchup and I'm also a fried spam person with mayonnaise and tomatoes I'm a zero sugar mountain dew woman I'm not a camping person myself I love you guys have a great week ❤️
Mayo (especially Duke's) & tomato make every sandwich better!
We love fried spam! I used to eat it as a kid and then sort of forgot about it. We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon and I was reminded how great it is! We have it with eggs for breakfast sometimes, we love it! Thanks for commenting, Lori. Have a great day!
Matt agrees, Karen!
Love your videos!!!
We're glad you love our videos! 💗Thanks for watching and commenting!
We definitely need to try it sometime. We come in from that side of town.
We're glad we tried it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Food looks yummy
It was!
Have fun
Thanks, we did! Hope you're well!
Townsend was never a place for tourists. It’s just grown over the years and being discovered more.
Cool! It's such an interesting mix of old and new, we just loved it!
Nice place
It was. Apparently they had just renovated it.
Have fun camping 🏕️🥾
We want to. Hope you are doing well.
Back in the day we went all out and bought a tent to go to Mammoth Cave for 3 nights on a long weekend. Got there, set tent up and went exploring....big rainstorm came up all of a sudden...you guessed it....flooded everything in the tent. All our bedding....everything. So off to the laundrymat to dry everything. Next day....stupid us took the top off again cause it was a beautiful day wanted to air it out. Guess what...freaking rainstorm again. I went back to that campsite an threw everything in the car and went home. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Well not in a tent anyway. The older you get the harder it is to sleep on the ground too ;) If I was gonna do it I would buy a cheap used travel trailer.
Also i eat bologna sandwiches weekly with cheese, chips and mustard :)
Wow that must have been so frustrating to experience being twice flooded. But what a great memory you made. That is one of our dreams, to get a travel trailer like that and travel around to different places. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That sounds like a great meal. I know a lot of people frown on bologna but it is delicious! Hope you have a great rest of your week.
I swear the same thing happened to me in 1981. After spending $20. In quarters to dry the sleeping bags we went to a motel. Never camped again.
@@marilynmoeller8855 after that fiasco I said if room service wasn't involved don't involve me lol
Picnic that's great
It was fun. Thanks for watching and commenting. We hope you are doing well.
Yes go to that restaurant
😊
Townsend is known as the quiet side of the Smokies, it has actually grown alot since my family started visiting it back in the early 2000’s. We always enjoyed staying there because it wasn’t as busy as pigeon forge or Gatlinburg. We love Townsend when we are going to relax and enjoy nature😊
It definitely has a more laid back atmosphere- which we enjoyed! We will certainly be going back to explore more. Any suggestions on things to see, do, or eat in the area?
@@RaysontheRoad the Apple Valley Village and Cafe is a must stop! My family always loved staying in Townsend because of how close it is to the Smokies so we picnic at Cades cove picnic area while there. We haven’t eaten at many restaurants in Townsend because we love to grill out and picnic! We occasionally enjoy wine and Cades Cove Cellars has delicious muscadine wine.
My husband and I love going to burgermaster when we stay at Tally Ho inn every September- Burgermaster is the same building they just renovated it - Townsend has added alot of new businesses in the last 3 ro 4 years to get more tourists there- it is the place to stay if you want it quiet and no hussle and bustle
Townsend is really cool. Much more chill than Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. We like that it has all these older motels and motor lodges which you don't see much anymore. Thanks for watching and commenting!
If you have a camper that would be great to travel around with and stay at camping sites
We have been talking about this, I also think it would be really fun! Do you have any suggestions for type of campers?
You first said Burger Boy... have you eaten at the Burger Boy in Knoxville TN. on Chapman Highway near the Henley Street bridge?
No we haven't but it looks like our kind of place. We will add it to the list of spots we got to try. There is one in Louisville too, not sure if they are related or not. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just subscribed! Loved that into music, who is the artist?
Thank you for subscribing. We appreciate you watching and commenting. Glad you liked the music. It has been awhile since I worked on this video so I will need to try to find what song I used and get back with you.
Yes
😁
Double dipping controversy- my opinion- I don’t like my wife(34years) to order the same thing as me..If one dies the other should live on.As for home cooking; maybe we are immune to each other.
That's a good rule to live by! Haha! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Regarding onion rings, plain is the word. I can't imagine dipping them into anything. As for ants, I don't imagine the bites will do you any harm unless you are unfortunate to get bitten by fire ants! As for camping, I spent most of my childhood camping with my family. Dad bought the largest tent he could find and all eight of us slept in it. My best memory is the time that a quasi tornado went through the provincial park we were at, and our tent collapsed. Imagine eight of us trying to get out of a tent that has collapsed. Fifty years later, I think it was hilarious, but at the time it wasn't so funny!
Eight of you? That is awesome. It was always our dream to have a large family like that. The memories you all must have made on those camping trips! That must have been scary being in a tent during a storm like that. I bet you all must have been so scared. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Stop at the visitors center! It’s great!!
I noticed what a beautiful building it was, we will stop in next time. Thanks for the suggestion!
I like ketchup with onion rings and I like mustard and hot sauce with my bologna 😊
I don't think I've ever tried hot sauce on bologna but it may be good, I'll give it a try next time! Thanks for watching and commenting, have a great day!
Lol I meant Hot sauce on my bologna 😂
😆 it's all good!
Malt vinegar and salt on onion rings.
Sounds yummy!
Comment down below.
Great video guy's 👍🇺🇸
Thanks! It was a really nice evening, we're glad we could share it with you. Have a great day!
Not a camping fan. I like sitting around a campfire and burning stuff but then I wanna go home.
I think a family camping trip is exactly what the Rays need!!!!
Good music
Thanks! We agree.
Anyone who watches these videos and is upset about couples sharing food must have some deep-seated issues that need to be addressed LOL
Right! Like...we're married. Sharing a French fry is not an issue 😂🤣😂🤣😂
What kind of mayonnaise do you use down south it’s dukes
Matt likes most brands. I think he prefers Hellman's but I know love the kewpie Japanese mayo as well. I don't eat much mayo but I think that kewpie is the best. Thanks for commenting! Hope you're having a good day!
It's official Aunt at picnic
lol 🐜🧺
It okay couple do that sharing
I know, right? 😊
Have you ever been to myrtle beach in South Carolina
Yes, we've been but it was before we started vlogging. Would you like to see videos on that area? Thanks for watching and commenting!
Y'all from Eastern Ky? I'm originally from outside of Hazard
Awesome! We love the area still and visit it often. Hazard is a very cool little town! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
Ranch dressing on onion rings
Is there anything ranch isn't good on? 😆Thanks for watching and subscribing!
We like ketchup with our onion rings. As far as camping, we like the comfort of a bed, running water, and heat/air. Call us spoiled hillbillies.
Nothing wrong with ketchup on onion rings in our opinion. There is no wrong way to camp, as long as you are having fun and not hurting anybody. Camp how you want to camp! 😊 Thanks for watching and commenting!
Our "camping"is in the hotel.
😀 you do you, as long as you are having fun and enjoy it!
What part of North Carolina I’m in biscoe one hour from Charlotte
Charlotte is such a beautiful city! Maybe we do a vlog there sometime!
Do you eat deer meat goat meat
I've eaten deer jerky before and deer bbq, both were pretty good. I don't think I've ever had goat. Have you tried them, if so, what do you think of them?
ok im so sorry.. but that is one ugly burger.. just my thoughts..
It wasn't pretty but it tasted alright. When I go back I would probably try something else. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I got the burger once. It was good but I've had better. We just go for the ice cream and shakes 😋. That's what they're known for.
I agree with your assessment of the burger. We didn't try the ice cream and milkshakes but we will next time we go. This was the only time we had been there so we weren't exactly sure what to get. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I used to love your videos but the music is to much I cannot watch them now
Sorry you did not enjoy the music. What was your issue with the music? What are types of music you enjoy? Thanks for watching.
Hello from NC! For my onion rings, I want mustard or ketchup. My burger has to have mustard, ketchup & onions.
Sounds great! I've never tried mustard with onion rings but I will give it go! It actually sounds pretty good. We've visited NC many times over the year but haven't done a vlog yet. Any suggestions of places we should visit next time we're down that way?
