    I am saving up for a house. I have been saving since my first year of school. So far I have managed to save some decent amount. I would also like to get a new phone and improve my videos.

    Thanks for sharing this...I was also terrible at finances. However, I too was not born into wealth so saving has been a huge part of my life. I use an excel spreadsheet to track my expenditure.

    I've kept a written budget for many years. It has served us well. Now that we are retired and on a fixed once a month income I don't have to worry as much because my money habits are already ingrained in me.

    Thanks for sharing your monthly expense budgeting. I do the same each month by adding up all my monthly bills with my food budget entertainment budget minus my total take home salary. What is left over goes into my savings. When I plan for a trip or a vacation, I figure out how much it will cost for everything including buying suviniers. Then I look at how much it will eat up towards my savings and how long it will take me to replenish the balance back to what it was before the trip. I ask myself do I need this getaway or can I delay it a while longer. Sometimes it is worth even going away for the weekend to releave pressure from the hustle and bustle. That's how I enjoy spending money sometimes. I'm less of a materialistic person and more of a life experiencing person.

    This is so encouraging, thanks for sharing with us how you manage your finances. I'm also bad with budgeting and always end up with debts until the time comes that I have to file for bankruptcy. Luckily, I've just been discharge from bankruptcy. And learned my lesson well. And your video taught me how to manage my finances and not to live beyond my means.

    I love the look of those money envelopes, I haven't seen them over here in the UK, but I think they're a great idea. When you buy stuff online or make cintactless payments I think it's wasy to forget how much you're spending. Great vid, thanks for sharing, finances never were my strong point. 💚💚💚

    Very good video, Angela! Thank you. As a 34 year old I can look back a bit also. I am very good at my finances now and never really have to stress about money. Living frugal does bring more joy than quick fixes. To younger people Id give the advice to save hard for your future, it will make life much easier. I spent too much of my first money on clothes and unimportant items. I regret it now as it would have brought me closer to buying my own house or appartment. Think what is important in the long run!

    Angela, Thank you for making the videos that you do. There are videos that I watch that leave me feeling inadequate but your videos promote contentment and assurance - simple living is so powerful. Don't worry about fancy equipment, your message comes through loud and clear! I am wondering if you could provide links or more information about the excel spreadsheets you use, the envelope wallet and the brush pens? Thank you and I pray for you!

      I made the excel sheets myself. It is just a simple one, enough for the things I want to track. I bought the envelope wallet and brush pens in a stationery store in Osaka, but I forgot the name of the store. The brush pen I usually use is a black Pentel Touch Brush pen. I will try to look for similar things in amazon and put the link in the description box so you can check it out.

      It depends on your budget and priorities. Japan is more expensive than some countries I've been to before (South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, etc.). However, you can still find really good deals if you plan to visit. They have really nice budget hostels and family restaurants that are very affordable. Even though it's a bit pricey, Japan is definitely worth your time and money because it is a beautiful and a very unique country. Hope you can visit someday!

    I have some doubts on your financial planning.... 1) clarification required on sinking fund 2) clarification required on the weekly lucky draw challenge which you keep noting down and strike the numbers on a table of paper ...whatever the value which appears you save it but I did not get it ...

    • @JanAngelaMaravilla
      @JanAngelaMaravilla  Před 3 lety

      Hi. Sorry if I was not able to explain it well.
      1.I use sinking funds to prepare for expected expenses. I set a target amount and the target date I will need the money and then make a plan on how much I need to put in each category per month to be able to have enough on the due date. I use it for expenses such as tax that I pay quarterly or annually. I also use it for other planned big purchases such as my phone and vacations.
      2. I use a 52-week savings plan challenge I found in pinterest. The goal is to form a habit of saving money per week. At the end of the year, after the 52-week saving challenge is completed, you can save a total of about $1400.
      I hope this helps clarify things.
