Can we talk about the fact that Disney couldn’t do expressive yet realistic lions yet Narnia did it successfully over a decade before it?
You're godamn right
You mean, the Narnia owned by Disney?
I said the exact same thing!! It’s crazy how realistic yet still very expressive Aslan is to this day. It was a huge miss step to make the animals as “realistic” as possible in the LKR
@@Chronowizpal That just makes it worse. They could do a decade ago but....forgot how something?
Yeah, but that had the people who made Shrek behind it. They physically couldn't do anything not perfect.

In 2019 Falling mufasa looks like godzilla from old movies... XDDD
simba screaming "nooo" looks like My cat, when he wants something to eat, not like a kid, who just witnessed death of his father
Mufasa's death was missing James Earl Jones' effort and Jeremy Irons' voice
I thought Simba was coughing up a hairball
The 1994 death still hurts...... The 2019 death heals us through laughter at how terrible it is

Movie: “Be prepared!”
Me: “For the song to finally start? Yeah, I’m ready.”
(Scene ends)
God, I hate this remake.
Lion King Remake: emotionless, passionless.
The original: Powerful amazing, on par with Lord Of The Rings as one of the best films ever made.
I was beyond pissed
Agreed
i was like that was it the best villain song reduce to that was just so bad
" Be prepared " to be disappointed.
"It's a waste of time, but at least it's a... realistic-looking waste of time."
Well if THAT doesn't sum up this movie perfectly, I don't know what does.
In both versions Scar has the most brutal death of any Disney villain: EATEN ALIVE BY STARVING HYENAS
But the animated version was better
"Selling drugs to kids also makes you money"
DON'T GIVE DISNEY IDEAS
When you're feeling down, take Hakuna Matata! No worries, for the rest of your days! Hakuna Matata!
Disney is already selling drugs to its Audience, it's called nostalgia.
Lmao 😆
*Introducing, Disney Drugs!*
You want Disney Dope? Mickey Mouse Meth? Nostalgia Nicotine? Cash Cow Crack? Hakuna Hash and Matata Marijuana? Well, we got them all!
There are few differences between behaviours and drugs. Behaviour and mind have a feedback loop, engaging in a behaviour can influence the mind, everything from smiling, dancing, meditating, etc, influences your mind. When you get companies researching this and understanding it they find ways to manipulate you without you ever realising, these days everything from supermarkets to entertainment are using psychological and neurological sciences to influence you.
I can forgive many things, butchering “Be Prepared” is not one of them.
That legitimately broke down my faith in Disney
I just felt empty...
Yep, I remember watching this and thinking that Scar came across as desperate the whole "song", just making empty promises about whatever just to not be eaten.
That because they has very poor casting.
That and Rafiki's speech which was the whole point of the movie.
"We're cats. We own everything."
"Got it."
Legit what my 11-year-old cat taught my 6-month kitten. Now they both prance around like they own the place.
Tamara wrote a better live-action "Lion King" in less than 2 minutes than Disney did in a year.
Damn right!
Disney's Lion King 2019: Decided not to sing Be Prepared
Lion King Fans: so you have chosen death..
Agreed.
Pretty much the only thing I was looking forward to see in this movie was its version of Be Prepared, because such an amazing song cannot possibly be fucked into oblivion.
Long story short: They fucked it into oblivion.
Exactly! I hated it sooooooo much
The kid actors had no experience either. Just terrible
18:45 HA, because he voiced Darth Vader.
@@Killjoy45 Right?! I was pissed with a lot of things in this movie, Be prepared was one of those things!
They fucked it up so bad it wasn't even funny. It felt like something that was thrown in at last minute.
Aslan shows more emotion, pride and color than any of the lions in this movie.
Yeah, I don't have a problem with CGI animals talking. Aslan is a good example of how it can be done well. The problem here was the lack of emotions while Aslan talked and showed emotions.
Thats crazy too
Yeah and both were produced at least partially by Disney and he aged magnificently. So why couldn’t they do that here?
Are you telling me they couldn’t do what they did much better over a decade ago!?
And Narnia came out 15 years before this film. How sad is that.
Even the puppet Aslan from the 1980s Narnia TV miniseries was better than the lions in the remake of Lion King.
My problems with the remake:
1. Some characters are hard to tell apart; For example, in the original, Simba and Nala as cubs were easy to distinguish because Simba had a saturated shade, while Nala was brighter, and had green eyes. Here, they look far too similar.
2. Characters like Zazu and Pumba look far less colourful than in the original.
3. They took out Scar's "Be Prepared" song.
Regarding point 1:
I had seen several trailers, and at least one review on youtube with plenty clips before I realised which one was Scar.
I adore the whole "IT'S NOT REAL!" running gag Critic says, because it's true. The story isn't *supposed* to be real and yet the filmmakers attempt to defend the new "Lion King" as being "the real version".
If the new film really wanted to go for realism, why did they have to make Africa look like poop smeared all over the "set" - Africa SHOULDN'T HAVE to look like that! You know it's bad when "Out of Africa" has a realistic African setting in comparison, with greenery - and for that matter why make the animals look less colorful?
One thing he forgot to mention: the original was made by Disney’s “B” team, the newbies, the interns, the ones not paid attention to. The “A” team worked on Pocahontas. But the “B” team didn’t just say, “Oh well, we’re the lower class, don’t work hard on this.” They gave their all, and we got the original. Don’t work for the money, work cuz you care.
Indeed!
Why don't we shoot this in Africa instead of CGI? "Its too controversial taking pictures in African!"
@@Tarnthewarrior A lot of Nature Documentaries are in Africa.

Nature documentaries have more color than this movie.

Lion King (original movie) - Action packed, interesting characters, amazing visuals, expressive actions, and hilarious hijinks
Lion King Remake - 😐 what’s emotion? Never heard of it.
Simba cowering at Seth Rogen's singing is the most emotion expressed in the whole film.
Mufasa: "Everything the light touches is our kingdom."
Simba: "What about that shadowy place?"
Mufasa: "That's the live action remake. You must never go there Simba."
true dat
OG Scar: an evil lion who revels in how evil he is and enjoys inflicting pain onto others
This Scar: “it’s not a phase, mom!”
Chiwetel’s Scar is like a moody rejected jerk since he lost Sarabi to Mufasa. I like Chiwetel as an actor but he pales in comparison to Jeremy Irons’s foppish and actually sinister vocal performance
I will never forget the original "Long live the king." line. It had so much emotion put into it excitement that scar is the new ruler, cruelty cause hes killing his brother, and an egotistical edge because he believes he won. This one is just an angry shout.
His real name is Takka, which means Trash. So he had mom issues abound.
Scar was evil in the first film, but he was able to have a "good relationship" with his nephew and brother to the point where Mufasa is surprised by the betrayal. In this version, Scar is so obviously terrible that there's no way Simba would follow him into gorge.
😂
I think its safe to say Madagascar Escape 2 Africa is a better Lion King Remake than the actual remake
We can all say that the animals in the Jungle Book remake have more emotions than this movie does.
It's kind of sad that _Stuart Little_ had better animal expressions than this movie did.

It's also an insult to animation
Nothing can replace the energy and grandeur of the original, from Hans Zimmer's epic score to the lively performances of Irons, Atkinson, Lane, etc, and the unforgettable songs, the original Lion King introduced me not to just good storytelling, but GREAT storytelling.
SCAR: Who is responsible for Mufasa's death?
SIMBA: I am.

19:52 My reaction of this remake, compare to the original masterpiece.
The Nostalgia Critic had a review of live action remake of The Lion King where he was saying, "Pussy ass bitch!" I just loved when he said it. I also loved the part where Simba was going, "Meow, meow, meow, meow! Meow, meow, meow, meow!" like the Meow Mix song.

Well, the same can clearly be said for all the crappy Disney live-action remakes produced since 2010 to this day 😅
Remember Aslan from “The lion, the witch and the wardrobe”? He was a realistic looking CGI-lion AND he had great facial expressions. And the movie is from 2005!!!
It's been 14 years since that movie was released and yet, they didn't do good CGI lions
@@brendis16851 They DID good CGI Lions. But they wanted them to look completely realistic. Aslan, being a fantasy lion, could have human-ish facial expressions.
Here, the Animals were intended to be accurate to nature in 9/10 cases.
Crappy idea, but hey, at least they stick to it.
@@undertakernumberone1 I don't understand this obsession with realism
@@nekonomicon2983 neither do I. It's fucking Hamlet with Animals.
I guess it's partly because doing a "normal kids movie remake" of lion King 1) would've been questioned much more than the wannabe photorealistic one, and 2) Because muh BBC documentary.
Yep I totally agree, Lena Storm. I was almost in tears when he died in both the cartoon and the live action movie.
One of the best criticism of this movie came from a 4 year-old who loved it. I showed her some of the stills from the original and she said "Well at least they're different colors, in the new one I can't tell them apart!"
XD wow.
If I'm being honest, I couldn't tell which lioness was Sarabi and I almost couldn't tell if Simba saw his father or himself during the scene with Rafiki. The only lion that's different is Scar which says something...
The different colors is actually one of the bigger shortcomings. In most LK fan comics they take a lot more liberty with that. Changing proportions, giving them faint patterns, using more exotic colors and other things.
LK really has a lot of great fan comics. One of my favorites is "dark times" which goes into Scar's rule. How he was a good manipulator but an innept king. It really makes you love and appreciate Sarabi for how she keeps loyal and tries to hold everything together. Without her Simba would have had truly nothing. It also kind of makes you feel bad for Zirra who wanted respect and only found it with Scar who just used her as a tool.
Smart kid 🤣
That's similar to me. The lions playing Mufasa and adult Simba look so similar in this one.
This one did make me realize just how great the expressions really are in the original.

Fun Fact: Female hyenas actually do lead the pack. So having Shenzi as the leader makes sense. But, for many, many reasons, Disney couldn't animate how she keeps the guys in line.

Real life is both more colorful and also less saturated that anything a camera can show. 3-D make or documentary, there is no way to get it just right. It says a lot that people literally DON’T talk about this movie, or like, any of the remakes anymore. Like after the first couple months people genuinely stop talking about them. They get forgotten with the speed of only the trashiest films. There is always more hype around their release than the film itself. This movie has ALREADY faded into obscurity. Even the people know who did enjoy this... Don’t talk about it.
fair enough
Well-put, and that's one of the biggest reasons that I do not go to see the live-action remakes. The remakes just won't form a lasting legacy.
Except for Cinderella. People I talk to still say how much they genuinely enjoyed that one. That was the first one though, so they gradually started going downhill from there
CastMemberLove Thats because it’s Cinderella. It’s a story that has been told more or less the exact same way a hundred times. There IS no way to mess that one up unless you are particularly inept at film making and story telling. Let’s not applaud fish for swimming. Cinderella is not a high bar to reach.

This is why, IF THEY DO GET THE NERVE TO MAKE A LIVE-ACTION CGI VERSION OF BAMBI'S MOVIE, from 1942-- I will be proud in two ways:

Scar's voice actor should've just slipped back into the Operative role from Serenity and start asking the animals for their favorite sin.
Disney calls them “live action remakes”.

i’d rather watch an entire movie about your cats than Lion King (2019)
19:18 That punch sound is literally a gmod ragdoll sound.
Did anyone think James Earl Jones sounded very bored in this movie. Yet he sounded fine in Star Wars Rouge One as Darth Vader.
Probably because he was saying basically the same exact things he said in 1994. With Rogue One he at least had new things to say because it was a new story.
Seriously, Aslan from Chronicles of Narnia had more facial expressions. And that movie came out 2005.
And he was something we gave a shit about
Even Godzilla and Kong also have more expressions in Godzilla vs Kong
@@margarethmichelina5146 for fuck's sake Godzilla was even more expressive in the fucking 2014 movie. For all 8 mins he's in the fucking thing
I want to pet the lion. Lions are beautiful and want to pet them. Aslan is a lion I wanted to pet since I was ten.
And it was Disney that did that
....doug was this review an excuse to show us your cats
doug:......perhaps
His cats are adorable and I love how he got another cat, probably a little brother for Chaplin. As an animal lover, Doug, I appreciate you giving these kitties a home
28:30 when i saw this scene in theatres i actually did hear people laughing
14:19 Did anyone else notice when Critic shouted "SHUT UP!" Nala's ears perked up, as if to say "Who said that? Did someone tell me to shut up?" XD
James Earl Jones sounds so tired. Be prepared was trash. Beyoncé’s whole song was pointless. Every scene sounds like it was the first take.
Simba...........come to me son............ jump 💀💀💀
Simba's reaction to Mufasa's death in the original: "NOOOOOOOOOO! Dad, wake up. Someone help!"
Simba's reaction in the new one: "Oh shoot, my dad died. Sucks I guess"
He already tired since Rogue One when he reprised Darth Vader
I also didn't like "can't wait to be king" in the remake...it doesn't have the magic of the original
James: Simba..... come to me son.... jump...okay, Jon this is just pointless. I can't take this seriously.
Jon: Here is your coffee. Now shut up and read the lines. The fans will love it. Trust me.
James: Fine, I guess... *loudly blowing raspberries*
Every time I see the 2019 lion king all I can think is ” this sucks, lets go watch the better version”.
That’s why I hate it I fear that dumb parents will show this version above the superior version first to their kids. That’s a hate crime
I know this is easy to say for someone like me who doesn’t have kids, but even if I did, I wouldn’t take them to see these garbage remakes of Disney Classics that were mostly old fables to begin with.
I feel like I can’t poke fun at this shit without acknowledging what’s already been said about the “original” animated films.
Also, I get why Doug and Rob added that poignantly funny Jon Favreau bit at the end. I just wish there was a less compromising way of making gems like The Mandalorian.
Rob Walker is a dead ringer, too! It’s creepy!!
💚🤣🤣💚
Black Wonka says, that's why they make them.
So you went to watch Kimba the White Lion?
@@Lobsterwithinternet - There's a whole ass YMS video on that that you need to see.
The relationships in the movie aren't portrayed properly.
31:30 HOLY CRAP HE CALLED IT
To this day, the scene where Mufasa dies and Simba trying to wake him brings tears to my eyes. When I saw this in theaters, I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing.
That me with Rue's death... the only time I cried was the CZcams video. Not Liongate
It’s almost comical, honestly. Something about the way it’s shot makes it feel like a weird parody or a high-budget CZcams Poop.
Same
I felt anger 🤔
I just started laughing, and felt bad for it.
It literally has a PG rating and they didn’t even bother to make the dead body look even a bit like a dead body
Exactly. The corpses(and reactions of the survivors) on "Murder, She Wrote" were a thousand times more realistic than this cinematic dead air!
Pigmcginnyrig lol
Awoofy:the car teaching the younger cat to become the next cash cow was genuinely intriguing
The one thing that I was looking forward to when I heard they were making a lion king remake was seeing how they would put a spin on my favorite Disney villain song: Be Prepared...
*THE ONE THING I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO, WAS TURNED INTO A FUCKING POEM!!!*
"I thought you were very brave"
Nala legit sounds like she's being sarcastic in this lmao
So like every single other female in every single other disney or modern film.
I like Critic’s version
“PUSSY AS BITCH” had me dying
“Talking” animals was done well in “Babe.” And “Homeward Bound” did it successfully, as well, without the animals’ mouths even moving. And they were made in the 90s! These were real animals (and a few puppets), yet their personalities, thoughts, relationships, etc. felt authentic as sentient characters.
Agreed! I love those movies!
I would add designs as well, the lions of the remake.. i had a hard time to tell Simba from Scar, especially during the final confrontation,
Babe was really good, at least, efforts were put into it along with ideas, the remake of Lion King tried to copy the original animated version, and failed.
oRเ-ŇOρρ Very true. In this movie, characters of the same species were hard to tell apart.
@@94KSpeed That was hard to tell them apart, during the last fight i was so confused, i thought Simba was thrown and teleported himself just after that,
to think in the original they had their own designs.
@@diggerfan9319 Yeah dubbed animals became a real thing in 90s movies XD
Mathew Broderick's entire performance was way better than this
16:36
I- I thought Scar’s original singing was swell
To be fair, I remember NC saying that he somewhat talked through the song as well.
