    Hi Sam, that furry mouse thing you referred to is commonly known as 'Windshields', and when used it should be possible to leave your mic settings flat, keep these great videos coming I really enjoy them.
    I should have told you what I use or about to as I am about to start my reviews (not what I normally do), the most recent I have tried is the AKG C214 and also the sE2200 mk2, I was impressed with the quality of the VM20 but all my gear is based around XLR, maybe I should scale some parts down to be more mobile-like yourself, thank you for the enjoyable and informative videos.

    @anthonypc1 Před 3 lety +2

    What are your suggestions for mic positions with this type of mic? is it important to bom from overhead, or in front, or will booming from below ur frame, work as well?
    For some acting auditions over Zoom I may want to move a bit, closer and further from the lens. So I'm considering which angle will be the best compromise for picking up my speaking from varying distances from camera.
    Maybe under would be less likely to be blocked from my voice than it would overhead if I lean forward? Also reverb from floor vs ceiling may be a factor...
    I think you've sold me on this one for my first quality mic for home studio streaming and interviews -- aside from my Zoom H1n recorder, and a $15 MOVO lav that my dad got for free from his job when they began doing work from home.

    What light are you using for this video? I see so many people bashing the Godox SL60W's fan noise. I'm looking for my first studio light and I plan to boom the Rode VideoMicro or VideoMic NTG. Do you recommend the SL60W in that case?

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  Před 2 lety +1

      I have done so many videos about the Godox SL60w and LOVE it. I never had a problem with the fan noise as, like you say, the microphone is booked close to the person talking. The only thing is, you have to get the light close, if you want to do more interview type stuff and you need the space, you might want to consider a brighter light, like the SL150ii

    Hi there Sam, Thanks for all your great videos, tutorials and reviews. I'm juuuuust starting to get into video a tiny bit - lots to learn - and got this Comica mic after seeing this video and thought it would do good for a start. However, I've had this strange experience when I tested it the other day. When viewing the footage after, the sound only came through on the left headset ear-piece (hope this makes sense). I've tried 3 difference headphone wired and wireless, and also, I did a video recording test with some Boya lavalier mics i've got and the sound carried through fine. I'm using a canon R6 by the way. - I am probably just a total newbie here :D Has it got something to do with mono vs. stereo recording or something in the connecting of the cables - And last resource before you - the great oracle 😂👍🏻 - was asking Google without any luck - what have I missed all together? Again thanks and have a great evening - all the best

Sooooo... after a lot of switching on/off, unplugging and what not I wasn't able to fix it. I then tried the mic on my phone - worked like a charm. Hi!
    I want to use this mic on:
    - Cinematic shots (for example: Cool Car Footage with exhaust noice)
    - Environment shots (for example: plant hisses, rain sound, sea wave sounds...)
    - Sometimes vlogging (and it's pretty alright actually)
    Can you recommend this mic or can you recommend other things?

    • @SamHolland
      @SamHolland  Před 2 lety +1

      If you capture the levels of audio correctly, then you can use any microphone. They will all vary in quality depending on the microphone but this one will do the job. If it’s within budget, I highly recommend this. But if you need extra control for capturing car audio, which can be loud, you may have extra flexibility if you go for an external recorder and dynamic microphone so you can control the input level more.
      Hope this helps 🙏🏻🎥

    I have this mic and I have used it on several projects. The audio is crisp and nice. The battery life is nothing to worry about as it can go a few days on a full charge. It has pro features like 75 and 100 db cut. It's a really nice mic .... until .... you start getting loud. I was doing a narrative based film with this mic when one of the actors had to shout aggressively as part of his dialogue for that scene. It distorted badly and very very obviously. Note: IT DID NOT CLIP. And this was the problem. After some investigation I found the SPL on this mic was only 105db and it had distorted because the mic just couldn't handle the volume of the actors voice in that situation. I tried another mic, my professional mic which is a Sennheiser ME66 and of course it passed my tests of me screaming down the mic at close range to try and get it to distort. The ME66 has an SPL of 130db. After some searching I discovered the DEITY D4 had the same SPL as my ME66 and so I purchased that. Problem solved. My Comica VM20 is now on eBay.

    Dead-cats are often fitted over the foam, so I don't understand your reaction. Though the quality of the dead-cat seems crappy

      Hi. Nope, still use this for every video. I feel like this is way easier for the sort of videos I do.

    Nice video, but should be 75Hz or 150Hz low cut filter, not dB.

    Hi Sam, I’ve been using the Comica mic the past couple weeks and it doesn’t sound as good as your review. I’m recording on the Sony ZVE10 and it sounds like shit no matter how I edit the audio. How do you make it sound so crisp? I am considering returning it. How do you edit the audio? I am using Adobe premiere. I am looking for a high quality mic to capture cooking noises and so far I’ve been really disappointed. Can you shine some light on how I can make it sound more crisp? Thanks so much!

      Hi. Sorry to hear you’re not getting the sound you want. Hopefully this video will help. It’s all about how you have your audio and camera set up - czcams.com/video/GOcmq-swnmM/video.html
      It’s an old video so bear with the slow pace 😂 but the tips still apply. I also use my audio presets which are available on my website. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to help

      @@SamHolland Hi Sam, thanks so much for a speedy response. I watched the whole video and will definitely try twerking the EQ and Compression. And it was a good video, not too slow lol. Would the 20 band EQ still apply with a feminine voice/cooking noises (sizzling, chopping, etc)?

      @@SamHolland Thanks. Sound is not my forte so can you please post a link to the cable I'll need please 🤦🏽‍♂️. I returned a Deity Mic because when I was about plugging an XLR cable, there was no jack at the end for it. The end pretty much looked like the comica CVM here

    I guess I have had Comica in the past, never played with the shotgun mic I got, it was more a vlogger mic, not this. I don't even think there was any additional power going to it. It again competed with the RODE phone vlogging mic, which I also purchased and never used. THOUGH, I did purchase their wireless mic system both the U and D2. Personally, I like the D2 better even though they are priced the same and sound identical. I like the size of the D2 better, and it feels better built than the U2. The u2 is probably the better one since it has more fine controls where the D2 just has gain control and that's basically it. For audio recording; I go all over the map with that. I have the Zoom F2 (I THINK THAT'S WHAT IT"S CALLED?), the rodecaster go competitor; Zoom H6, Zoom F6, and the personal favorite Sony PCM-a10 again, for the size and stereo mic in. Lav mic I've used the Sony ECM-CS3 (how could I forget, these names just roll off the tongue) as my favorite. I don't recommend the Zoom F2 recorder, screwed up for me when I was helping a friend shoot his commercial and without a display, it was hard to figure out intuitively how to record with it, and the app apparently didn't do its job. Also, not a fan of the Podtracker 8, have a Rodecaster Pro and just picked up the Behringer xr18, since why not. For studio mics got the Shures, and just ordered two Electro-Voice re20s to see what I like. THEN trying to find a good boom arm without much luck. SINCE my podcast desk is a ULINE all metal desk SO none of the clamps work with it, had to rig some nonsense to make it work, ordered some toys that should help find an alternative solution, possibly use the fact that I'm using a metal desk to my advantage and use one of my 5,000 magnets I have around this house (not even an exaggeration) to magnet-mount it. Who knows.
