HI Sup. Overall, both are equally effective at up scaling good-to-okay quality images. Topaz Photo AI is better at up scaling soft and noise-ridden images. But, it will cost you twice as much.
Gigapixel is particularly good at upscaling images that have already been down scaled. So, when you test it by downscaling and then upscaling you are actually making it look more impressive than it is when used on an original image
Hi Tobias. Oddly enough, I have observed the opposite in that the larger, more detailed the image, the better the upscale. For this reason, I've often wondering if my testing criteria is too tough.

When grabbing compressed photos it has had some incredible results but when using it on high resolution raws the relative gain is always far less impressive. Of course the high resolution image is going to look way better overall, but the relative increase in clean detail is way lower than using it on a compressed image
1:38 - more like typical upscaling algorithms do this interpolation, whereas generative AI models like what Gigapixel uses, will detect the subject matter, materials and such, and will then try to redo the same image in higher resolution with generated details.

Lightrooms' super resolution tends to generate weird artefacts for me when itry anything complex ... gigapixel all the way, for me
