  • #robocoproguecity After Starfield and Lords of the Fallen, here comes a very long video review on everything wrong and everything right with my RoboCop Rogue City Review, the new first person shooter and narrative rpg by Teyon, a game that is one of my biggest surprises of 2023, and channels a lot of Urban Chaos, Chronicles of Riddick, The Darkness and Condemned Criminal Origins, but in a modern Unreal Engine 5 wrapper. I think the 7 out of 10 reviews from outlets like IGN and Gamespot are pretty accurate, but this is a game that certain people will LOVE, and others just won't care too much for, and that means it's a game I just had to cover since that's interesting to me.
Disclaimer: I recieved a Review Copy for the game from NACON and Teyon via Keymailer.
Review copies do not influence my views on a game, and I hope this and my previous reviews are proof of it.
This video is in 21:9 Aspect Ratio and HDR at 1440P.
This was a tremendously fun video to make. I know I'm late to the party and the likes of Skill Up and Gmanlives covered it already, but I hope this video adds something to the conversation. As usual, I haven't watched ANY videos nor Reviews for the game as to have the most unbiased opinion possible, so I'll check those out later.
    Chapters:
    00:00 Intro, price, and budget
3:35 Part 1: Influences from the Past
10:33 Part 2: What the game is REALLY About: Narrative
15:31 Part 3: Cause and Effect, analyzing the Design
25:15 Part 4: ShooterCop, analyzing the Combat
34:53 Part 5: Almost an RPG, Limitations, Reptition, and Reuse
39:54 Part 6: A Product for All Consumers
    40:45 SPOILER WARNING Ending Discussed
47:48 Spoilers OVER, Part 7: Missing Link and Conclusions

Absolutely loved the game. Didn't mind the price-point for it, even as a AA title, because it's pound for pound better than most other games being released today. And yeah, there were some problems with it, but it got all the important stuff right. The feel of playing as Robocop. The love and respect shown to the Auto-9 that you could basically convert it into any other weapon type on the fly, and it maintained its power throughout the game. And then there's the music. They used the scoring like an honest-to-dog character, inserting those old movie OSTs at key moments and just ramping up the game's action, or delivering a bigger impact to a cutscene.
So the little glitches... yeah, I can wait for patches to polish it up. It was worth the purchase to let Teyon know... keep doing what you're doing.
Also, one boss fight? There's three. You forgot ED-209. OK, so maybe 2.5 boss fights. But still, show ED a little respect. He's kind of a threat the first time. Even if it's quickly figured out how to cheese him because, well... it's ED. Who got taken down by a staircase.

I think of them more as mini-bosses, but sure, I can see it. Teyon definitely deserves more recognition, and although my video tanked, many other videos did great and I hope that they got some sales from them. Super excited to see what they do next.

@@Mugthief It was a little joke about ED, agreed that he's definitely a mini-boss at best. Even the first fight with him... once you learn how to use the environment, it's just pure cheese. Which is 100% ED. But yeah, this is a studio to watch for any release in the works. If they put this kind of care and love in their production, they'll do good. They learn from each title, and they've improved each title afterward on those lessons learned.

Of all the npcs, i genuinely like the development of pickles. Wanted a good outcome for the dude as be felt likeable for his trivial movie knowledge

I haven't played the game, but I like what I see from your watching your review of it. I'm a truly a fan of Robocop an even Robocop 2. I didn't like Robocop 3. So, as to why Teyon devs decided to set the events between Robocop 2 and Robocop 3 is a bit odd, but I suppose it was done as way to show why the Japanese company came in and took over. It looks like it could be fun and interesting to play and having seen the trailer, I think it's great the devs got Peter Weller to do Robcop's voice! I think might hold off on buying this, as I have other games I'm playing right now.

THIS GAME WAS PHENOMENAL! Storywise it's the closure all us robocop fans were looking for to continue the story after robocop 2 because 3 was an abomination. When u get 30 years of crap after that plus a remake this was a welcomed and appreciated addition to the original Canon. Graphics aside it captured everything you would want from robocop and really put you in the shoes of robocop. Great game script, great gameplay, lots of fun! Loved every minute of this game!

From what I see in your footage, the gore is a massive issue for me. A lot of blood-splattering effects give the impression of massive gore, but once the bodies hit the floor, an issue seems to glare at me - not enough varied and interesting splatter-aftermath and corpse destruction, something like dead space or soldier of fortune only improved. I want to see limbs blasted, guts spilling, heads and brains splattered, corpses incinerated, etc. Great and fantastic gore variation would bring the action sequences more to life and give that robocop feel to the game.
