This flag is probably one of my favorite modern day flags. Finally a flag that bothers looking pretty unique and ornate as opposed to being a multicolored series of rectangles. The red and gold go beautifully togheter, the coat of arms on the flag is a great touch and the border is really cool (seriously, we need more flags with borders). So shoutout to Montenegro for going with a really badass flag upon independence instead of another lackluster, boring tricolor.
Thank you, you're reading my mind.
Also, check out the anthem of Montenegro, it's great
Historically the tri colour of red blue and white was the flag with a white eagle not gold. However the government of Montenegro today is taking any measure possible to strive away from any connections it may have with Serbia. Its sad infact.
@@averinus7706 Its very nice national anthem very powerful.
@@dekitesla9915 Do you know of the older version, from 2006 or something, same lyrics but it doesn't have the "oj junaštva svijetla zoro" melody. That one is quite powerful as well
Thats faschist anthem
I am from czech republic, but my grand aunt lives in Montenegro (kotor bay) and i studied the Montenegro history a bit, and the most interesting thing i found were the Montenegro-ottoman wars, especialy the battle numbers ratios i even found a battle where 3000 montenegrins defeated 40 000 ottomans! it's pretty weird to imagine.
"In the Netherlands they speak English - Ken 2018.
To be fair you aren't completely wrong. Pretty much everyone here in the netherlands is able so understand and speak least some English, as it is teached in elementary schools, and is one of the 3 key subjects in Middle school (together with Dutch and Maths). Universities often choose to teach all or some of the classes in English too, in the hope to atract foreign students.
Still though, the quality of the English we speak varies greatly, with many people here jokingly saying they speak "coalmine-english" which pretty much means they speak english words but the sentences don't make a lot of sense.
In the biggest cities, mostly in the west of the country, the amount of English speakers usually is bigger than in other parts, with the center of the capital city of Amsterdam pretty much functioning as an English enclave because there are so many languages being spoken in the city that English kind of became the Lingua Franca.
English is actually co official in the Dutch Carribean municipalities so his statement is kinda correct although not the first thing that should've been mentioned xD
I'm glad you mentioned this because my sister and her family (originally from Chicago, IL, US) live in Amsterdam, and her husband mentioned to one of his new Dutch friends that he was learning Dutch. The Dutchman replied by asking incredulously "Why?" English seems almost ubiquitous over there at this point.
On the one hand I'm glad the Netherlands are embracing one of the global languages so willingly, but I'm also a little bummed out that they're going to lose some of their national identity if they keep it up.
@@im0rtalpunk Also St. Maarten and Curaçao has English as an official langauge.
I find it hillarious and sad at the same time that the "Dutch" Caribbean has Dutch as an official language, yet it is not being spoken/practised in its intirety throughout the island communities. Only Suriname which was part of the Netherlands are the only one using the language on paper AND in practice.
I can confirm this as I am an Aruban myself. And going through the educational system, - starting from the 1st grade - most books and testpapers you get are in Dutch. Some teachers try to help by translating whatever we are learning in Papiamento (local, official and widely spoken creole/language). Others just follow the books. Throughout the years/decades lots of students failed and flunked classes because most couldn't understand or didn't want to pay attention of what they were being thaught. And can you gues WHY that is? Exactly, the coloniser langauge being the dreaded 'Nederlands' (Dutch). The language ONLY on paper and NOT in practice here in the "Dutch" Caribbean. Because if you want to have a social life or live properly or not being that awkward guy/girl that does not speak any language other than Dutch, then you best be learning how to communicate with the essential language(s) acceptable to our communities. Namely Papiamento, English or even Spanish. Like heck when it comes to media and entertainment, Aruba's only and rather shitty cable provider (if you're using the basic plan which most people use anyways) has only ONE channel that is entirely in Dutch ('BVN'). We have out of the manny radio stations only ONE that has Dutch speaking radio hosts but most songs they provide are in English. We have out of the 4 or so local newspapers only ONE that is written in Dutch.
Look, when it comes to Aruba, I'm not blaming the Netherlands (entirely) for making most people here socially insicure and having to weaken the cultural language, mother tongue which is Papiamento. I also blame our corrupt, incompetent and rather dishonorable local politicians and government officials for not doing anything like changing laws to soften (or illiminate) the rather burdensome language that is Dutch and strenghtening more comprehensible languages (by Aruban or any other Dutch Caribbean society standards) like our mother tongue (Papiamento) or the international and other widely used languages like English or Spanish.
Conclusion: the Dutch language did not and will never work in the long run for the common people of the "Dutch" Caribbean (well at least for Aruba). In this current age, the language only works (properly) for the respected country of Hulanda (Netherlands) and Suriname.
Same in the Philippines, english is a threat to national identity. Everybody understands english so foreigners are not interested learning Filipino languages.
@@MustraOrdo actuality on st. Maarten they don't even speak Papiamento. they speak English, France or a France based creole.
i think that Papiamento is more the southern Caribbean
Are the Montenegrins too sleepy to make the red in their flag = blood of those to fight for the freedom?
blood of those who slept for their freedom
How will there be struggles for freedom let alone blood spill, if everyone is sleeping?
Red=blood of those who fought for freedom does not have much mileage in the Balkans. This isn't even true for Serbia which has red as the top color.
Shark Team *war against turkish intensifies*
They actually became independent without spilling any blood.
The first state-owned printing house was in Montenegro.
Yeah we made a first printing shop in the balkans when usa was discovered

You should have discussed one of the few warrior cultures in Europe was found in Montenegro. Usually warrior and martial cultures are found outside of Europe.
It's a great source of pride for Montenegrins.
8:27 Those are not hearts on the Frisian flag. They are actually lilypads, or as in Frisian: Pompeblêd.
Came here to say this, known this fact from the football club SC Heerenveen

They are also in the coat of arms of Denmark if I am correct :)

If you mix that milo with water, you'll be banned from coming to Australia
Or Colombia. We adore that stuff over here, when he said to mix it with water I got genuinely confused.
After all this time I just found out that Milo was originated from Australia, and it's mainly popular on Oceania, SEA and Latinos.
Damn, I thought it was popular all around the world, feels like my whole life is a lie lol.
I melt the milo with hot water and then add milk

The Frisian flag doesn't have hearts - they're lilypads. Pompeblêden to the locals, Seeblatt heraldically. The flag of the Ommelanden in neighboring Groningen does have hearts on it. And it has the stripes mirrored.

There are a few Sami people in northern Norway and northern Sweden, but the majority live in northern Finland in Finland's northern province of Lapland. and side note my little cute cat is named Lapi, which is Lapland in Estonian.

A fun fact. The two heads on the eagle throughout eastern and some Central European countries symbols the separation of Church and State. Hence two heads leading one body. Church and State leading a country.

It's based on coat of arms of Despotate of Serbia.
@@loodiloodi8237 ohh, thx for the info.
Hello Paul I am an Australian geography peep you do not mix Milo with water you freak it clearly tells you to mix with cold or hot milk depending on the temperature or preference. Also it's must try on vanilla ice cream and mix it in. Also it's grainy enough to safely eat right out of the tin.
Can add hot water to it to dissolve it for a hot drink, just don't add more than what's needed to dissolve it - tastes like dirty water if you do.
@@laetitiabailey-mortimer8532 true but using hot and milk tastes horrible to me.
This is simple. Cold milk. Accept that it will not fully dissolve. Drink delicious milo milk. Eat delicious milo gloop. The end. If you want hot choc go to a cafe.
@@lgrono000 - sadly, I can no longer have it any which way - it contains dairy which, I have found, is a no go for me. :( At least I can use Akta-vite. :)

As notable Montenegrans you could have mentioned Veljko Bulajic, Petar Strugar and the Narodni Heroji of Yugoslavia who were ethnically Montenegrin. And some might argue that Skanderbeg was half Montenegran
