Ranking my Entire Boot Collection

- My boot collection is pretty over the top. Of course this is a side effect of doing reviews and being an enthusiast, but I thought it would be fun to rank my entire boot collection based on nothing but my own preference.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better. - Jak na to + styl
I like that you put a segment for each boot in the timeline
CZcams'ing done right by a dude who puts a lot of thought into everything. 😎
Hes got more shoes than my wife has purses
It would be great if they were correct 😂
Now if only they actually lined up with the boot being shown at the time of the marker. 😂
@@greyhoundTex except that its off by one, each boot matches the time stamp ahead of it. tragic really.
The “eff off” comment to “manly men” was so funny my girlfriend laughed from the other room. Great content as always.
It was nice spending that much time with you this Sunday Carl. I have 3 pair of leather boots and a couple winter boots. My Builder Pro’s are top of my list :)
Well thank you for hanging out with me! Much appreciated!
I would love to see more videos like this. Ranking everything you have of a particular item in your collection. It is very useful. Thank you so much.
I think I’ll do a jacket one soon!
100 % I would stay the rest of my life with only your top 5 boots, adding my L.L.beans which I love.
Very nice collection.
Good choice!
The video I have been waiting for! Thanks again for the support and a honor to feature in your collection.
Always!
Thanks for the compilation. I love your take on what makes a good boot - it’s very personal and individual. Not only is that a confident way to display this (not conforming to what everyone thinks should be the perfect boot) but it gives your listeners the permission to enjoy their own boots even if they do t have the most popular boot on CZcams. Keep it coming!
Well said! I think that was precisely the goal here, and not just to mention the most expensive or exclusive of the bunch.
Impeccable collection Carl ! Would love to see your denim, leather & winter wear collection next.
That was the most articulate presentation of anything that I have ever seen. Great job Carl, I loved the video. You're the reason I have invested in a pair of Nick's Urban drifters in one of your favourite leathers " waxed flesh". Cheers and keep it going. Two thumbs up!!
Thank you brother!!

Doc martens don't have shank inside but solovair have wooden shank dr martens is actually shit
Can you review some Frye boots? Or do you not like them?
So when do you cut them in half?
😄
@@Madchad6969 Solovair is a footwear return to the late 1970s and a little better.
I would not buy DMs I'm sorry to say.
Wood seems wrong but it works fine.
I have a pair of Danner trackwelts 6 inch I have worn them every day for four years and their still like new I was wondering if you could do a video on them
Great vid as always!
Thank you for making some of the top boots on my list!
Thank you Carl for this very relaxing video for a Saturday morning! I'll never have this many boots, I have 1 pair of Iron Rangers and 1 pair of Blacksmiths. I love them both, But now I feel the need to go shopping!
Thanks for sharing your awesome boot collection in your favorite order! Nice collection and your favorite was my favorite too, that boot looks amazing!
Whites smokejumper MY favorite.
For Keorsote I just hope he's still around by the time I can afford him.
Love the channel and this video man! Im starting a new manufacturing job with one of the companies on this list and I'm psyched! I'm a newcomer to your channel and the world of boot making, but I'm excited to be a part of it now.
Damn 40 minutes of Carl talking about boots? Hell yeah
Hahah thank you!
I don't recall ever saying "YESSSS!!!" so many times in a single video :) Man I really appreciate all the effort you put into these great videos. Can't even imagine how many hours it took you to film and edit this video. Thank you sir!
Much appreciated!!!
Great video detailed explanations keep up the great work
I like your reviews and your camera work really shows the boots details clearly. Great video
lofgren engineer and the nail shanks are #1.. you sir, again have captured the essence of rugged style
Carl brother, it's your style of unapologetic honesty, that makes this channel what it is. I too, see the beauty of the Nail Shank. No other boot, quite fills it's niche. That gothic, American folklore style, just emanates from its design. I dream of someday owning a pair of "RS1 dIRT's." Someday. Anyway....I don't want to take up too much of your time. Just wanted you to know that, as usual, this was time well spent for me. Here's wishing you all the best. Cheers....🥃
Thank you for a great video! It will help me figure out what I'm buying next
#1 LOOK AWESOME!! Love them. Definitely have a huge heel for my liking but still, for someone short they're probably the perfect boot.
I'm happy I finally watched this. It *seems* like everything rated below the Taft Hiro (except the Jim Green Monster and L.L. Bean duck boot) you wouldn't miss if you sold? I'd love to see an updated version of this video in late 2023 or early 2024 to see how you've pared down and maybe added one or two choice additions.
I've had White's Cruisers and Nick's Urban Loggers on my wishlist for awhile now (not strictly work, casual, or dress), but seeing you talk about your Kreosotes (again), I'm starting to think I should just save up and have a pair or two made to fit my foot. Maybe from an up and coming builder so the wait is more reasonable. What do you think?
It's great to have an example on CZcams of someone who advocates for buying the best, and buying less.
Really nice boot collection! Saw a couple I may look into for myself! Dope video!
This was awesome man. Thanks for taking the time to make this. I feel you on having to many boots. I just sold a few from my collection. I felt like having 7 was too many...I can't imagine 40 something haha
Glad I could help! I kinda wish I had only 7. Its definitely an easier storage situation!
Thank you a lot for this Carl! That really helped me! Perfect as all of your vids!
Happy to help brother! Thank you for the kind words!
ill say this... i respect the dude in the video. he OWNS his favourite pair of boots, he doesn't care if its not your style, those are HIS GOD DAMN FAVOURITE BOOTS. i respect it.... not my own first choice on the list, but i respect it.
The morning after Thanksgiving 2023 with some coffee and down time. Really enjoyed watching you rate your awesome collection!
“Manly” Men: exist
Carl: “eff off”
😂
where did he say that, I was scrolling through this during my lunch hour, 40mins was too long for me.
So nice! Number one boot is number one for a reason. Beautiful boot.
Excellent video as always!
Thank you!
that Nail shank boot is amazing. id wear that smart casual and to gigs but it also reminds me of the leather clad security at cherry bar!
Great video. So many boots I’ve had my eye on here, I really wish they still made that oldenwald I’d buy that in a heartbeat
It’s a great little 5” boot, I wish they never got rid of it.
My three favorite: Origin USA Bison Boot - Red Wing Iron Ranger - Nicks CM Collab. Dude, you gotta get out of those smooth carpeted floors and more into the woods Lol.
Great Video Carl! I want to thank you for introducing me good boots. I have my Nicks thanks to you and Im looking at the Grant stone now also. Nice collection you have!
The Grant Stone navy CXL is speaking to me
Thanks brother! I agree, those blue tones are seductive....
*Love. Your. Thumbnail. Goals.*
I would really like a video on your boot storage? How do you keep them organized and functional to actually wear different ones in rotation. At your number of boots you almost need a storage unit for your boots! :)
hey Carl, love the content. you're someone i trust to give me an unbiased review based on facts. been here since 10k. next stop 200k!
Damn dude.thank you!!
...BOOOOOOTS!!! Great video so far my good Sir.😄🙌
When you pulled out those Kreosite Boots, I instantly could see the impeccable quality throughout that entire boot. Clearly earned it’s number one spot in your list 🥾 🔥 🕶😎
Like the ranked format. Cheers.
Super awesome video, thanks for taking the time to talk a little bit about each boot. With how many boots you own, have you done a "If I could only keep 5 boots to cover every situation" video? Might be interesting if you haven't.
Thats a really good idea and a few others have requested a similar video... looks like I have some work to do!
Thank you Carl for taking the time to do this entire video, I am too a boot affectionato and own many boots , I really dig the denim shirt you’re wearing what brand is it? thanks for sharing
Thank you! That’s the Farrier shirt from Patagonia Workwear.
You should do the same with your jacket collection!
Well I sure will now!
I have 8 pair and people think I'm sick, thanks for lifting my spirits !!!
I'm so glad people like you exist. People think I'm sick because I own around 17 pairs.
You’re not sick- you’re a connoisseur!
Videos like this really show the progression of your styles/tastes/preferences evolving as time goes on. It seems you've branched out a bit from your workwear roots, and moved in a dressier/sleeker direction, which is awesome to see!
It's unfortunate that you've had a lot of quality issues with your White's. Would you recommend sticking with Nick's over White's if you had to choose?
Thank you!!
Well, the Whites issues are usually minor finishing problems. Some like the Smoke Jumpers are absolutely perfect, but others like the Bounty Hunters are lacking in that department. Overall the Nicks have been better, but some models are only available through Whites.
I think that structured toe of the nail shank is super cool
Thanks for the list!
You bet!
I have a high instep too. The boots I've had the most issues with are Haix. Two pairs in particular felt like vices on my feet. Glad to see Jim Green's ranking up high on your list. I emailed JG asking how their factories fared during the recent riots and they said the factory was saved. I bought a pair to show my support and they were much appreciative. The boot world is fascinating. I bought a pair of Waxi boots from South Africa. It's a kind of boot the armies down there used to wear. Maybe you can get a pair and review them.
I love this video! I usually forget to "like" a video but when you told people to F off for acting all "Manly Man" I immediately liked the vid :). LOVE that!
Hahaha right on! Thank you!
Great channel and very interesting video! I have four pairs of boots, although I never intended for them to be a "collection". I just like good boots. I've got a pair each of Grant Stone Diesel with veg-tanned leather uppers, Oak Street Field Boots in black Chromexcel, Nick's Falcon in Olive Chromexcel, and the ubiquitous Red Wing Iron Ranger. I wear them all and they're all great!
The Vellies are a nod to the traditional southern African shoes of the same name. Shortened from "veldskoene" (FELT-skoona), which literally translates to "field shoe." The preferred pronunciation, at least directly from Afrikaans, is "FELL-ys," although anything that gets you in the ballpark is good enough.
Great video, regardless. Thanks for putting in the work for us curious minds with shallow pockets.
Nail shank boot definitely had a bad ass look, would love to get a pair
$1900 and 4 year wait time. No boot is Worth that
Zip boots was a legend in 80-90 with black shiny leather, sharp toe and gold zipper... A neck breaker for sure...still have them somewhere in my storage 😆
Thanks. Hope you soon make a tutorial about te Panama hats
Lovely boot collection and good analysis! Much appreciated. Gave me ideas! Lucky you, free boots👍 I’ve only got 1 pair of “zip” boots but for what I need em for I’m thankful 😄 just got a pair on Julian engineer boots and they fit me right out of the box. Little bit of boot stretch and they’re perfect. True to size at least mine. Vibram and Catpaw soles. Have RW 2268s that fit just fine but these are a step above foresure. Been wearing em in for 4 days. Feel good. I love the toe box on the John Lofgrens. Hey anyone what’s your go to for boot grease? I use Huberds but not sure it’s the best.
awesome! I am in love with square toe cowboy boots but your collection is great men, a mixture of brutality and lightness
Odenwald are such a nice boot. I first got the Normandy then the Odenwald both with leather soles. The Odenwald I wore to Italy and they spent a lot of time walking around Rome, Napoli, Pompeii and Venezia. Your number 1 are amazing
I started with the 8085 IR and that started my heritage boot love
fantastic collection!!! very nice to see the grantstone ostrich boots in there, that was an unexpected yet delightful surprise to see in the mix!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Those are becoming heavy in the rotation. I love that leather!
moving to northern cali for college. just bought some jim green razorbacks as i think i will be hiking a lot👍🏻
The Iron Rangers are not resoled properly. They are way to curved up at the toes.
the nicks americana and the 10' smokejumpers! awesome silhouettes, i want to see these 2 in different colors and materials
40 boots is a lot, especially since you probably also wear other footwear at least some of the time. Even if you are in the trades, you probably only need at most 5 pair of boots (one pair of work boots, one backup, 1 casual boot, 1 dressy boot, and one rain or snow boot). and if you are not in the trades, then maybe just 3. Add a variety of colors and you are up to maybe 5 or 6, 8 at most.
I posted recently on a shoe forum about this topic since my last count of shoes and boots in my current rotation (not counting very old shoes I don't ever wear) is in the low 30s, maybe 32 or 33. Some are seasonal, like boat shoes and sandals for summer, and boots for winter, and others not. But even still, while it is nice to have options, like a variety of colors and styles, in a rotation of nice shoes, and boots along with beaters for bad weather. But even accounting for that, I am hard pressed to say any man needs more than 20 or 25 pairs of shoes and boots, and if I were a minimalist, which I am not, I would say nobody really needs more than 5 or 6 at any given time.
But that said, you are a guy who reviews boots and other gear so it only makes sense you would acquire so many boots. Sell, or donate the bottom third immediately. Given your platform, I am sure they could be gone in a few days.
Agreed. There’s also a huge sense of relief when you can get rid of things, for me at least.
You should get some Edward Green. I’m about to buy the Banbury Chukka in snuff suede but they have plenty of calf skins and cordovan shells and other options. Galways are probably the most famous
Your Woolrich comment on the narrow last - this is the biggest thing for me, finding the boot maker with the right last. And why Carmina is my favorite. You can have any boot or shoe made in any of their lasts. Wish you would review one of their jump boots. I know it’s a little on the dressier side, but their boots can kick through a wall, way tougher than you’d think. Anyway, for me, the last is everything.
I have way too many dress boots, mostly Alden and Carmina, but my Beckett Simonon “Nolan” boots deserve a mention, because I have intentionally tried to destroy them by hiking with them, and warehouse/forklift duty, but with Renovateur and shoe cream they polish up and are just looking better and better. I do not regret that purchase at all.
Thanks for the awesome video, excellent content as usual. ✌️
Good call on Carmina dude, what’s your favorite last?
@@CarlMurawski Oscar and Inca work really well for my slightly wider feet. Oscar is my fav.
@@CarlMurawski check out model 80184 in brown grain leather, it's my favorite boot.
I expected nicks and red wings up top.
Was not surprised, they make the best boots
The Imelda Marcos of men’s footwear👍🏻. Thanks Carl I think I’m going to try a pair of Thursday boots. The price is right and there are a couple of models I am interested in.
Good choice!
Don’t feel guilty for owning so many boots!!! Amazing collection!!! Well done
You'll love those J.G. Monsters! Cushioned around the whole foot, bit still have the room in the toe cap like the Razorbacks. And that aggressive, lugged-out traction is one of a kind! Get 'em dirty, and give us a review!
I'm a 10.5 and the Monsters only come in a 10, or 11.
What ever happened to those Silverado boots that you showed with the jim greens a while back? Havent seen any other reviews on them other than yours and I would like to see a more long term review since Ive been looking into getting a pair, thank you keep up the good work man.
I love the Paatagonja Work shirt!
Thanks for doing this. There's so many different shoes and I've basically been buying the wrong ones my whole life
Thanks for the heads up on northern republic I was looking into them for a possible resole on my iron rangers
Come to find out they're defunct now. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but they're gone now.
Really wish I would have jumped on those Nick's collabs you did. Beautiful boots.
Well you may be in luck, we're doing another collaboration this winter!
Have the same shirt haha, that iron forge hemp is awesome
Bought the Origin Bison, looks nice but is just ok. Im old enough I was looking for a really good boot and saw one of your videos mentioning Whites. Went to the website and thought wow that s a lot of money for some boots. I wanted something nice looking for riding my motorcycle so I ordered a pair of Whites/ Max Schaff 4Q. I had to wait 6 weeks for them to arrive but boy was it worth the wait. After 5 minutes of wearing them I realized Ive been wearing garbage shoes for the last 40 years. I can see a few different Whites in my future there just that good. Thanks for these videos I get it now . I doubt the Origin boots will ever be worn now which seems like a waste but its just the reality of the quality difference.
If you like green and kudu you should get a pair of Parkhurst Allen boot in spruce kudu. I just got a pair and love them.
Please review the rm Williams comfort craftsman! I think you’d love them!
Hi Carl and the rest of CZcams 😁🤘
How do you rotate your boots? In my honest opinion you've got many boots that are designed for the same kind of job for example your Smokejumper/Jobmaster/Builder Pro Boots. I've got plenty of boots of that sort and can't decide how to rotate between them... 😅
Greetings Rick
I love that #1. If I could have any boots in the world and money was no object it would be those.
Just came across this video and I have to say, you may have an addiction ;)
In all seriousness though, after thirty years in the Army, my favorite boots were the Cochran II’s. (Soft leather jump-style).
That’s why I absolutely love my Iron Rangers. They remind me of when I was a young buck-sergeant, trying to figure things out.
Great review video, I’ll be back!
love the vid, but I have a question about what chair is that it looks beautifull and comfortable
Glad to see there is a fellow right wrist watch wearer 🤘
Yeah buddy!!!
Nice collection and a great video. On your #2, AE Oldenwald....check out the AE Patton, VERY similar to those. Same build as the ever popular Higgins Mill, and I absolutely LOVE mine....
Thanks brother, but the Patton was in there! Great boot for sure.
Oops, it sure is. My bad, guess I shouldn't fas forward eh? :-)
Its a shame that your channel isnt 10x bigger and with more subscribers. Keep up the great work man!
Working on it, maybe one day!
@@CarlMurawski I guarantee it will come!
This is a wonderful effort that conveys hard-won opinions, well-done. What's interesting is what isn't here---yet? No Aldens? Not even Indys? Viberg Service? I look forward to hearing what you have to say about those standards.
I had a pair of Indys, but the heel was way too narrow unfortunately. Viberg is a staple, and I think I'll get a pair in the future but I have to find the right ones.
Seems crazy to ask your opinion on yet another boot brand, but would love to hear your take on JK Boots. See them compared with Nicks often, and I just got a pair and absolutely love them.
Love that arm chair by the way
Hey Carl, how would you rank the Brass Boot from Grant Stone that you previously reviewed?
If I could justify the Kreosote I would get a pair. They are amazing.
I agree, they’re really something special!
Lovely content
Hi I've been watchening many videos for a while and am a fan. Honestly have to say that I am purely jealous. Also need to know how do you store so many boots? I have 9 and can find the space.
I like the Creosote's toe. I happen to want to buy a pair of Truman's in Java Waxed flesh with a cap toe in the 20 last that has a square boxed toe.
How do you deal with having all of these boots, Carl (and jeans and jackets etc) ? Do you focus on some items to wear until getting worn out, or have any particular way of storing them? I'm looking around for people to discuss this but found nothing yet:))
Thanks for the review :) Perhaps in the future you can could wear pants cut a little higher to your leg length to help show off the upper parts of the boots
great video carl..
