This was a live recording, not the Studio version. I would say Karen sang better Live on many occasions. There's never been or will be another Artist to equal her beautiful legacy!

Off the subject here, sorry, but I just watched your Streisand With One more look at you/ Watch closely now and it was almost like watching myself in a mirror. That’s my fave part of the whole film. I could see the emotion it brought to you and it always gets me every time. I don’t think I’ve ever watched it without pouring tears. My mom loved her and used to drag my 2 sisters and I along to every movie and we would tease her about crying. Who knew I’d be the one shedding tears as an adult. I just discovered you so haven’t watched all your videos but I wonder, did you do a reaction to the video that’s available here on CZcams from Funny Girl where she does that whole train station, train, cab, ferry, tugboat Don’t rain on My Parade scene? If so, forgive me, I will have to look thru your posts. It’s nice to see these reactions from the music of my childhood, thank you.

Well, I was initially afraid of what you picked because, oh boy, another lyric video with snippets of this and that all out of sync with what Karen was really singing. However, I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED to hear this, apparently, live version included Tony Peluso's guitar fills. Did you notice how, every time the phrase would come to an end, the electric guitar would do a little fill-in garnish? (Tony Peluso). What I liked was that this version had Tony Peluso. And I heard strings and woodwinds that are not on the record. First time I ever heard this one...you have a good shovel!
Sometimes the Carpenters will release a perfectly beautiful song ... but later tweak it for a single version. I pretty much detest singles versions of songs from Chicago because they're masterpieces of composition not amenable to slicing and dicing. But Carpenters songs are generally short, so how do they tweak them? I have the album that contains this song and I liked it. But I was in the car one day and heard the same song, but with Tony Peluso's guitar fills. I thought I missed something on the album and listened to it again, and there were no fills. Sometimes you can muck up a perfectly good song by adding something, but, in this case, the fills created interest at the ends of the phrases. On the album, the ends of phrases were just held notes.

There's nothing else different other than added reverb on the single version. Some people may like less or more; I can take either, but I LOVE the second version with Tony Peluso's fills. I know you keyed in on the words, but the actual music PLUS the meticulous (sublime, as you said) arrangement make the Carpenters stand out. They didn't have to be loud and she didn't have to scream.

Umm, I don't think she would be impressed and things are not going in a good direction and can't now be turned back. We just have to try and slow down the destruction. As for coffee, you are so sweet. The virtual coffee is for people to buy the coffee for the channel as I work and do all this for 'free' so people can watch for 'free'. That is why I don't take requests as I already give a lot of time and cannot use more of my time for free for nothing. This version is a mess -sounds like they put a version of the recorded song redone recently by Richard Carpenter with the London Symphony, the backing music is way different. they covered up the live soundtrack from the TV show here. IMO the original single is better, this is overkill Richard...for one the solo guitar sounds doubled and too loud. This plods along with too much instrumentation leaving Karen's vocal doubled when it was already doubled, lost in the mix and not up front. you'll hear the difference in the beginning in the original single release if you look for it on youtube. It sounds like it was actually messed with, possibly autotuned. Yuch!
Psyche, I love Karen's voice and your commentary. But what's up with the black and white car dealership scenes in the video?! It made no sense. It ruined the mood of the song.
