I think this is the most personal song I've ever heard in my life. I never manage to hold back the tears on the mother's speech at the end... 10:00 the camera focus on Tuomas while Floor sings so beautifully, and he looks almost fragile, if not broken, I just want to reach out and hug him
To me, Floor's voice represents the sadness and despair Tuomas must have felt at the time, while Marko represents the anger and frustration with the whole situation, is a rollercoaster of emotions

It is masterpiece. I was at Wembley, and Nightwish are always playing loud - but here in this song, Floor's voice just smashed our spines. Her voice, sorrow and emotions surrounding us was something I have never experienced before - combined with Marco's desperate vouce.... I cry and feel this one every time I hear it.
I can't imagine any other band that are able to do anything close to this, hitting the crowd that hard and effective.
And your reaction - you felt it - and it grows every time you listen to it from now on.
    Super job of you đŸ€˜đŸ€˜đŸ€˜đŸ€˜
You might consider doing 2 more epic songs - not sad but just phenomenal.
Wembley: 7 days at the wolves
    And
Tampere 2015: The Greatest Show on Earth. They did this one on Wembley too, with Richard Dawkins on Stage, but the Tampere version is more spectacular - they are actually quite different. At Wembley Troy uses the E-bow and Tampere flute and Uillean pipe.
!!! Remember to stay on until the very end - they speaking is an important part of the song - 24 minutes of pure deep deep gold

Your opening appraisal was concise and accurate, well done for that Rocky. The "boy" is a recurrent theme of Tuomas persona because of his happy and fulfilled childhood, poet, writer and dreamer also. The end part titled Mother & Father wrecks me, and others I think, as it is nearly verbatim of what Tuomas' parents said to him in that desperate time.
Floor's delivery and emotion is again perfect.

This song is a Masterpiece and the most personal song for Tuomas about his pain, what he went through after letting Tarja go from the band.
I have listened this many times, the lyrics touch me so deep.
The part "I cannot cry, cause the shoulder cries more"
One interpretation has been that Tuomas couldn't go to Tarja and cry on her shoulder, because Tarja was also in pain and was crying more. So he had to be stronger.
And the final part "Mother and Father" every single time brings tears in my eyes.
Thank you so much for charing your thoughts with us of this incredible song 🙏

In my opinion, this is the most beautiful song that I have ever heard in my life. It brings out emotions in me that no song has ever done before, and that is saying a lot. I can relate to this song because unfortunately I have suffered with depression for most of my life and felt like suicide was the only answer to what I was going through more times than I can even remember, especially after a traumatic night that happened to me that involved someone who I thought that I could trust, which lift me with PTSD and that is still effecting my life today even though it happened 7 years ago. Also when I was trying to get clean and sober from a heroin addiction that lasted for more than 13 years. I have been clean now for almost 3 years now and it has not been easy. Depression is a monster, and I'm so glad that Tuomas was able to fight his demons and realize that his life was worth living. I think that his experience made him stronger and I know many people that have been able to get through really rough depressing times in their life by listening to Nightwish. It's such an amazing band and Tuomas is a amazing song writer and a amazing composer. Anyways, I'm glad that I found your channel. I really like your reactions and I'm a new subscriber. -Meg

Indeed it's a difficult song to play technically and emotionally, I don't know if you noticed between the moment it's said "now I have only three minutes and counting..." and the moment the blade falls you have exactly three minutes. Also it's very difficult emotionally for Tuomas, in an interview he said when he wrote that he was depressed and suicidal that he had to kill himself literally in the song so he doesn't do it for real and how many times when they performed it live, he asked the tech to cut the vocals out of his monitor because these lyrics are so hard for him to hear.
Another thing you may have noticed, Marko and Empu in the end of the song went standing by him maybe checking on him, seeing if he's doing fine and giving him some support.

You are an all in reactor. That is special. I'm late with my comment. I had many Nightwish reactions waiting for me last night, and I kept pushing your reaction to The Poet and the Pendulum down the list, maybe because hiw emotional you are. I just felt I didn't want to listen to this song and chose the 'easier' ones first.
After a short night sleep I was able to sleep a couple of hours more and I felt I was sort of ready for The Poet.
Great reaction, appreciating fully this mastepiece and performance. So much more than just a song among others. It is amazing to have people like Tuomas who can turn the worst times of their lives in to masterfull pieces of art for us to feel and I guess I have to say enjoy. Even though it's so sad, it promises hope, a new beginning at the end.
I can not imagine me writing anything like this about any other song. Finnish men are, stereotypically, emotionless. Not true of course, but I think it is true we hide our emotions, keep them inside. Not very healthy. I hope and believe that is changing.

At this point, as a member of the "NW Army" I know I should "bombard" You with NW facts etc... but, hey this ain't yer first rodeo, so I'll skip that.
    Absolutely beautiful, Thank You,
    TomHđŸ‡«đŸ‡ź

There is another documentary which appears on the "End of an Era" DVD/Blu-ray called, "A Day Before Tomorrow," which documents the final 15 days leading up to the fateful last concert of the tour, recorded for the DVD/Blu-ray. It is quite an emotional trip, and can be found on CZcams in segments.

    Amazing reaction my friend.
I've seen countless reactions of NW songs. But the thing than you've said, that actually Thomas, through his creation, especially this masterpiece, has opened his mind and his heart to his fans, describes perfectly what we all experience with this band. He has allowed us all to roam inside his most private, most personal, most forbidden places of his thoughts and feelings. He opened himself to the world, and that my friend is courage and charisma!
    Long live NWđŸ€˜đŸ™

loved the reaction tnx. it is a beautiful and heart-wrenching song, espescially when you know the backstory. fun fact, when the voice-over says "3 minutes and counting", exactly 3 mins later tuomas slits his throat...

Great reaction of this masterpiece. Interpretations of the lyrics can be many but I also tend to think that "the beginning" in the end is about something new that starts after the 'suicide' of Tuomas. There's also a theory that the story is tell backwards, because in the beginning there's a part that is like a reversed tape of the spoken words by the kid.
Anyways Tuomas have said he is not in that place anymore so the song feels odd to play at the time, but I can imagine they will keep doing it from time to time because of how good it is as a composition.

I have always interpreted the ending of the song (like when he says "the beginning") as him literally being born again, like reincarnation. But maybe I looked at it that way because I / my religion (Paganism), believe in reincarnation. However I like hearing other peoples interpretations, it allows me to look at things from a different perspective and I liked what you had to say about your theory of what the ending of the song meant.

If you want to hear this performed with the original anger and passion find Marco's Demo of TPATP, man it is hurt and angry, it was recorded before they had found annette to join the band. This is the ultimate live performance of the song though and Floor puts her heart and soul into it, you feel everything, it is not a song you even hear or listen to, it is a pure emotional ride

Greetings from Finland & thanks you for your reaction to this Nightwish masterpiece of epic proportions. Floor's vocals give this song so much more emotion than Anette ever could, although she wasn't a bad vocalist either.
P.S. Did you notice that it actually takes three minutes from when the young boy's voice says "Now I only have three minutes and counting..." to the point that the pendulum swings & Tuomas figuratively cuts his throat with his right hand?

It's my favourite song of Nightwish. And this version is perfect. Floor's voice is birilliant here. That ending - she sings with a light head voice ("be still my son...") and then she sings the same melody with a chest/mixed voice ("search for beauty..."). True artist. Most people can't do that, they're like - OK, high notes = head voice, low notes = chest voice. She's above that, she can choose whatever she wants and it sounds sooooo damn good!

Heavy, indeed, Sir...but so extremely unique and beautiful. All superlatives come into sight, when thinking of or hearing or seeing /\/ \/\/. A band with so strong individuals, who believe so strongly in higher human emotion...these last three words form the main theme in their music...in their lives as a band as well as personally! /\/ \/\/ are able to inject us with their depth and touch our hearts, our souls, just like theirs were before they spread out their love to us. In my dark days this is what it plays in loop
We are blessed that we live in the same time with Tuomas
Now for the song , Tuomas make some references to Edgar Alan Poe , also when said "i have 3 minutes" its the 7th min of song and after 3 exactly minutes "founded dead with a smile in his face" he commete "suicide"

    Nice reaction!
    Instant sub!
No idea how I managed to miss your other Nightwish reactions but I hope there are many more to come.
Remember when the boy's voice said "now I only have three minutes and counting"? Watch it again and count the three minutes. Tuomas is indeed an absolute genius and Nightwish delivers music on a level closer to absolute perfection than any other band!
There's however one other recomendation I have for you:
Check out a band called The Warning. They deserve way more attention than they're getting at the moment.
Is it because they're from Mexico?
Is it because they're three sisters of currently 20, 18 and 15 years?
No idea! But it's wrong! Help changing it! Start with their cover of Enter Sandman from 6 years ago. Kirk Hammet himself tweeted it at the time, especially praising the drummer.
Go check it out, you won't regret it!
They also recorded two albums with original songs since then.
