This 1967 GTO complete frame off restoration started with a car that looked like it had been dragged out of a swamp. It was originally Tyrol Blue with a black vinyl top, a black bucket seat interior, the Pontiac 400 for barrel V8 under the hood, and was coupled to a turbo 400 automatic transmission. The car was built with factory installed air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering. However, over time, this 67 GTO badly rusted and deteriorated and was in need of a total restoration.

Once the car arrived at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, our team evaluated the car and disassembled it, and started building the restoration plan. The GTO frame required repairs on the body mounts, and a few other places, and the chassis was restored with Epoxy primer and industrial paint finishes. The V8 crew installed a complete BMR fabrication tubular suspension system, similar to what would be seen on Chevelles, Oldsmobile 442s, Buick GS's, and other GM A-Body platform cars. The suspension system will allow the car to handle and perform better than originally, without sacrificing a comfortable ride.
The body was media blasted, and the V8 Speed and Resto Shop fabrication shop went to work, replacing the quarter panels, installing a new trunk floor, replacing the cabin floor, repairing the dashboard, building a custom, firewall, replacing rocker panels, and much more. Once our 1967 Pontiac GTO’s rust and damage repairs were completed, it went into our body shop where all the panels were fitted perfectly, and sanded to perfection.
Meanwhile, our mechanical team refreshed the Pontiac 400 V8 and topped it with a FiTech fuel injection system for improved performance and reliability. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop paint department sprayed the GTO in a fresh two-stage Tyrol Blue, creating a show car quality paint finish with clear coat a mile deep.
The V8 Speed & Resto Shop’s Interior department was busy restoring the bucket seats, stripping the seats and repairing the frames, installing new seat foam and wrapping them with new reproduction seat covers. The V8 interior shop also refurbished the door panels, the dashboard, headliner, and all the various elements inside the car, and installed a new carpet.
Once the new fresh paint job was wet sanded and buffed to mirror perfection, the interior shop, crew installed a new vinyl top and began reassembling everything inside the car. This included a dashboard filled with gauges from Dakota Digital and a sound system from Custom Autosound, air conditioning from Vintage Air, and reproduction dashboard trim and console details.
The crew installed a Magnaflow stainless exhaust system to make the Pontiac 400 V8 engine, sing, and new wheels and tires were installed. Trim pieces from OPGI or use throughout the car to make everything crisp and new. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team did amazing job restoring his car from start to finish, and you would not recognize it as being the same car and looking at the final product.
But perhaps one of the greatest satisfaction of this restoration was presenting the car to the owners at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago! The team unveiled the car to the owners and their family, and then the MCACN judges took over and scrutinized the car. It was judged in the Street Modified class, scoring 997 out of 1000 possible points! Our team is grateful for the opportunity to restore such a cool car for very nice people, and the Blue Ribbon was a nice touch.

First-time viewer. Extraordinary car, extraordinary craftsmanship, and extraordinary video. I believe this is the best automotive video I have ever seen. Super photography, great narration, and superior music. Thank you, thank you, thank you for using some other than the stereotypical louder-than-the-narration-mediocre-screaming-electric-guitar that is generally inflicted on viewers. Truly a professional video.
Wow, this is perhaps the best comment we've ever received! Thanks so much for sharing your kind words. We have many more up our sleeves! Thanks again!
I couldn’t have said it better.
Well spoken.
Be interested to know how much that resto cost
@@sjd7188 well over six figures
You said it better than I could the only thing I would add is how wonderful it was to see the restoration in such detail. Each step of the restoration was covered and it was glorious to watch.
The 1967 GTO is probably the most beautiful muscle car ever built, and these guys have brought it back to that beauty.
I’m an Aussie bloke that doesn’t cry but it was hard fighting back on it when watching the family receiving their GTO. .Amazing restoration guys.
Thanks for the positive feedback... we don't cry either (that much... ) Best wishes to you in Australia from your Muscle Car fan brethren in the US!
The 67 GTO is one of the coolest and most beautiful cars of the 60s muscle car era. The color and everything else about this car and the very meticulous restoration is stunning!
I've been restoring "Muscle Cars" since the mid '70s and from experience I appreciate all your hard work and care in what you do.
I call this kind of thing "rolling art" and it truly is!! I'm currently restoring a '69 Mustang Fastback for it's original lady owner who's daddy purchased it
for her back in '69 from Pasadena Ford. It's all stock and number's matching in Aztec Turqouise with stock black bucket seat interior, 351, AT, PS and PB.
Wow, that's an awesome project! So cool it's still in the family. Best of luck with it!
You guys did an excellent job bringing this 67 GTO back to its former glory again and giving it new life again. :)
I agree!!!
Fantastic!!! The ‘67 GTO, in my opinion, is the best looking muscle car ever built! ❤️
I agree brother. My dad had one, Beast!
This car has a special place in my heart. I was born in 1967. When I was little, my mom had two cars in a row with a similar color. First, she had a 1964 Chevrolet Corvair convertible. Next, she had a beautiful 1966 Pontiac Bonneville coupe in a silvery blue. Her next car was a green, 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix. The Bonneville was a 389, I believe, and the Grand Prix was the same engine as that GTO...a big block 400 that would roast the rear tires off the wheels. I guess I have always been a Pontiac guy.
Absolutely, unbelievably beautiful work on this iconic piece of automotive history.
Thank you!
When I was 15 years old (back in 1989), I was given a '67 Pontiac Tempest. It was in pretty rough shape. Not quite as bad as this one was to begin with but, it was rough. Originally, it was the same color as this GTO. It had the original 327. All matching numbers. I wish I would have had the resources at my disposal to have done a proper restoration on it and enjoy it. Sadly, though, I ended up selling it. It had a blown head gasket. My dad and I didn't know if it was a bad head gasket, warped heads, or a cracked block. There was oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil. Turns out, it was, in fact, just the head gasket.
I love auto restoration videos (in general) and I especially love seeing GTOs, Tempests, Bonnevilles, and Catalinas restored. It always takes me back to a happier time.
Thanks for sharing this video. You guys did an AMAZING job on it!
Thnks for sharing the story and the kind words!
A pure work of art! Congratulations to every "Craftsman" involved in this labour of love project!!!
Thank you very much!
That blue metallic color was absolutely my favorite on the GM mid-size muscle cars of the mid-60s. Looked absolutely stunning when offset by the “perfunctory” Cragar S/S 5-spoke chrome aftermarket wheels.
Impressive dedication to all the folks involved in this project.
Very nice program presentation here. I was fortunate to have owned a 67 GTO with a 400 and four speed. The difference in mine was that it was a convertable. It was the same color as this one with a black interior. One of the most pleasurable cars I ever owned.
Mine was the same n it was a monster fast car.
Still my favorite GTO. Beautiful job.
Definitely the best restoration process I’ve seen. These men are precision auto restorer’s.
Excellent work.
Thank you so much!
You guys build something that made an entire family happy ..... Just made me tear up a little 🥲...
A Job well done guys 👏👏👏👏👏
First, '67 is my personal favorite GTO. The entire production is the best I have ever seen, starring of course, the restoration. Much has changed in the automotive paint world since I left it 35 years ago. The supplier for whom I worked sold DuPont and Ditzler and we stocked factory pints of Spies Hecker for our Benz dealers. Seeing that only one name of the three remains surprises me not a little.
The '67 GOAT has been one of my favorites of all time. Just as always, the more I look at this car the more I want to look at.
True car surgeons. WOW !!
I think when a vehicle needs that amount of replacements - you did a great job. Doing a little restomod to keep it driveable and fun to drive. Keeping it subtle to retain the soul.
FANTASTIC
FANTASTIC
FANTASTIC
as a kid I had a '64 candy apple red, white vinyl top GTO. I loved that car. Always chasing speed, i went to a '69 MOPAR green RoadRunner, followed by a '72. Man, I'd love to have a restored, upgraded version of each😅😅😅
Great job presenting the car
Wasnt having good day but this video made it better. Great video, its like immersing yourself into this dream experience of restoring your own muscle car
Awesome feedback, thanks for that! If we helped you have a better day, we've achieved our goal! Thanks again!
So rewarding and makes ya wanna go do it! Love it as well. Best comment
A kid I went to high school with, his older brother had one of these in black,
389 with a 4 speed.
Great show no doubt when I was about 13 years old. My brothers friend had a 67 GTO red with a white vinyl top and white and black interior and they found the total Trans Am and put the 400 drivetrain in it and air-conditioning and I’ll tell you why I always wanted one of those cards when I grew up. I never got one, but I still appreciate them like I did then.
Excellent color. Amazing car and year. A Hall of Fame car. Pure beauty on wheels.
Absolutely totally Beautiful ! The workmanship , the people communication , the family, this is so American at its best !
Thank you for the great feedback, we agree with you... a true-blue GTO and the story of family, persistence, and achievement are about as American as it gets. But we hope that people the world over pursue their automotive dreams with the same passion and enjoyment as well. Thanks again for the kind words!
You fellas did an extremely great job on this car! Hats off to all involved!
Thanks you!
How much $$ does it for a restoration like this??
@@danieljacobson5774 You know the saying, "if you got to ask,..." They wont reveal that. Its not cheap. Problem is If you make them this expensive and perfect, you are afraid to drive it. Imagine some dumb ass, on their phone driving and hit you at a stop sign or wherever? Might end up a being crime scene! lol
I don't think I've ever seen this much attention to detail presented in a restoration video. I'm extremely impressed. You guys do amazing work !
Wow, thank you!
Magnificent Restoration! Better than new!
Great job guys 🫵
Awesome job befitting Muscle Car Of The Week and Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals. Nice to see you again Kevin and thanks to the team and you for sharing.
Thank you!
Thanks for a trip down my childhood memory lane. Returning from the Vietnam war my late uncle bought a new 1967 GTO in Tyrol blue with white vinyl top and white interior equipped with his and hers automatic.
Nice!
missed you guys, good to see yall back
Just doesn’t get much cooler than this! Bravo!!!
As a previous owner of a '67 GTO, with the Hurts shifter, it does my heart good to see this classic car rebuilt. You are truly doing God's work. :)
what a car great job
Kevin, I’m glad to see that you got your hands in there (dirty) your more that the spokesman. Great job.
Awesome. Another great project completed by you guys yet again. They didn’t look this good from the factory Beautiful GTO😍
I had one I still wish I still had mine The 66 and 67 GTO what gorgeous muscle cars just to look at Those cars looked like they were fast just standing still
I had one too when I was 16 in 1976. I paid $500.00 for it. I sold it two years later so I know how you feel. At least we can say we had one and got to experience it.
I worked at a 24 hr. full service gas station from age 14 - 23 my 2nd car was very Early production 67 coupe same color and vinyl top 4 speed version drum brakes, non power steering no AC and it had a carter AFB most of them had quadra jets but that car was show room model . The owner was blown away yall did a awesome job everything is smart for today and point on, con grats guys . BEAUTIFUL !
Thanks for the kind insights!
Best year for the GTO. My friend had a 67 Lemans convertible. Looked like the GTO. Unfortunately for him, he was hit 3 times in it. Didn't get hurt, but car was destroyed. At the same time, I had a 67 Cutlass S, 330 4bbl. Still my favorite car. Maybe because I was 17.
I really enjoyed this video. The gentleman narrated it perfectly. It was a very well made documentation of an exceptional build !
Thank you so much! Your positive feedback means a lot to our team.
Awesome restoration on a beautiful car! Well done! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Thanks 👍
Always love that 67 GTO
I almost forgot. Val Kilmer is a huge GTO fan and he owns 3. I talked to him several hours. The subject was 90% Goats and 10% Tombstone. He's a wonderful man.
Wow, cool!
@@MuscleCarOfTheWeekreally, who's not a fan of these 1960s cars? These cars definitely looked better than these modern soulless computers on four wheels
This definitely wasn’t in the last 8 years…
The paint part is my favorite part of any resto video. This car probably took at least a year with the whole crew. They definitely got their money's worth. V8 Speed Shop, you guys have talent.
Thanks for the kind words!
You guys are true Craftsman! Amazing job! I love seeing the before-and-after pics as well as the step-by-step pics.
All I can say is stunning... great job on restoring that car!!
Thank you for the kind words!
Lines are better than GM ever asked for back then. Just a gorgeous car.
Good upload Kevin.......I really enjoyed seeing the original condition of the car, then the work that went into it to correct it, and finally the finished product. I loved the old GTO's.
Glad you enjoyed it! GTOs have a persona of their own for sure!
Oh how I miss my 67.
I had a 1967 GTO when I bought after leaving the Navy in 1971 it had 41k miles and was a 4 speed light silver green and black interior black vinyl top
That's a great color! Thanks for sharing!
No words, outstanding work Gentlemen.
Thank you kindly!
Out of high school in 1974 my buddy swapped cars with his older brother. My buddy wound up with a 1966 GTO with about the same color blue, white interior, 389, 3 deuce, 4 spd. I got to drive it once; what an experience.
Beautiful job guys. I had one. It was the darker blue. I loved it
My dad was a GM factory rep for Pontiac Motor Division for 26 years. We had a '67 GTO the spitting image of that car. Beautiful restoration you guys did. My dad has a '66 and a '70 GTO now.
Nice car. I was impressed that it had the Hurst His n Hers shifter. I installed one of those in a 1967 442 after converting from a 4 speed car to a T400 auto. Thumb up for the resto.
Those are cool shifters for sure!
Cars like these make me wish I was born American 👍
We're happy to share them with you!
My mom had a 1967 LeMans 326 that I totaled when I was 17. If she was still around I’d buy her this car. It was the same color blue.
They didn’t look so excited when you rolled back the cover. I would have passed out because the GTO looked amazingly beautiful!
997/1000 SCORE!!! WOW!!!! Amazing restoration!!!
One of the best documented and well-narrated restoration films on YT, thankyou for sharing this gem.
*1967 PONTIAC GTO* 🙂👍🏻
Good Job 👍 nice color I like it, I use to remember when I was young I use to ride a Pontiac GTO during the 70th good luck 🙂
Thanks 👍
Magnificent restoration, and how you gave the car some improvements to make it handle better than new. ❤
I bought a '67 GTO new. Plum MIst, biggest engine I could get, 4 speed, no power steering, No air con, white interior and 4:33 gears. That car was a rocket, I wish I had it today!
Wow. Amazing job on this car. Thanks for the video.
Glad you liked it!
Stunning workmanship! Just stunning. Congratulatiions to all involved in such a great project.
Thank you very much!
When the old man with his Lady cruisin down the street.. absolute amazing 🤩
What an amazing machine you guys made
66/67 GTOs most beautiful muscle car Detroit ever made. PERIOD!
I ain’t gonna lie, when they pulled back the cover,I teared up. Beautiful car.well done.
So did we!
You guys did a beautiful build on the GTO!
This has to be the absolute best redo I’ve ever seen 100 % total craftsmanship very great job guys and gals thank you ❤
Thank you so much for the kind words! We'll share your compliments with the team. Thanks again!
Great job team !!
That is much better than when it left the factory ❤❤❤❤❤ 🎉🎉 😊
Nice work Gents. You should be proud.
Thank you kindly
Awesome job and color! I've seen a few of those in high school, but the ones I loved the most were that burgundy red color with a black vinyl top. Two seniors who were friends then. One had a 66 and the other a 67. They were both burgundy/black vinyl and polished in the school body shop. One had a 389 engine and the other a 400. Both beautifully done, inside and out!
Ohhh blue is my favorite color, I miss my brother's body shop.
❤ What a LUCKY car! The craftsmanship was lovingly applied!… 🎉
Beautiful. Huge amount of work - excellent result. I would love to have that in my driveway.
Many thanks!
Could got u one for 5000 but it's gone just have the block
Awesome job. Well done boys
Man... That car is sweet. Everything looks incredible. Even the wheels are perfect for it. 👍
Thanks 👍
Wow! Excellent work.
Stunning, and built by a company that takes care not to cut corners and that all showed when the unveil happened.
Thanks for the kind words!
This is really incredible workmanship and attention to detail but it's one of the many reasons I choose not to get an old car and restore it. It's pretty hard to find a shop that will do quality work in replacing pretty much all of the metal. I can do a lot of things on my own but that's one thing I would need help on so that's a big hurdle. Cleaning up a frame in restoring it is not such a big deal but all that new sheet metal lining up definitely takes a tremendous amount of talent.
I must say, you and your crew did a phenomenal job on this car. Absolutely beautiful!!! the owners are very lucky to have such a gorgeous GTO!!!
Thank you very much!
If Pontiac would have continued to make cars like this they might still be in business.
Incredible restore and took me right back to '73-74 in high school. Had a green '67 with vinyl top...know just what you mean. Was a beater for sure...guy I bought it from had built it for drags w/radical cam. Was great fun, but a cop magnet. Thanks for sharing this...made my day!
Stunning. Fabulous, Wonderful. Oh boy, if only I could have had my beloved, long gone, 1973 Camaro Z28 undergo the same treatment! Thank you for producing such a captivating film.
Thanks for the kind words! Sorry to hear about your '73, but glad you seemed to have enjoyed the car for a time!
What an outstanding feat an work of art by all of you.
Your excellent craftsmanship and experience is in matched.
That car is so beautiful it gives me goosebumps
You guys killed it with this car I have one but I know I don’t really have enough money to let you do mine I’m doing all the frame and suspension work and I have a Pontiac 400 to go back in it
Love this paint color. Light blue matalica with a black vinal roof 😃👍
So the hood is original and everything else has been replaced ! So basically it is a new GTO ! Very nice ! You guys went the extra mile. Beautiful build ! 🇺🇸👍
Thank you! Yes, lots of sheetmetal was replaced due to rust and damage.
I'm amazed at the skills it takes to do something like this.
Such a beautiful car and a masterful restoration. Bravo and congratulations!
Is that car not a thing of beauty? It’s like auto jewelry. Beautiful colour and just beautifully restored.
Thank you!
Beautiful! Your work is a true piece of ART❤
Thank you so much!
