Misa way before Thill was written: Actually... there was 1 time when I thought I wanted to quit BAND-MAID. It was before the 1st or 2nd one-man [BAND-MAID only concert, not as part of a bigger event or joint event with other bands or activities]. I felt there was a slight gap between the music that I really liked and the music that BAND-MAID was playing at that point in time. . I was quite troubled about this and discussed it with our manager at that time. I was told "For now, why don't you take a good look at the view from the stage at the next (one-man) performance and decide after that?" as a suggestion. So, when it was time and I went up on stage to perform, the view before me was truly amazing. The expressions of the Masters and Princesses and the response and reactions to our music moved me deeply and I enjoyed that "service" [BAND-MAID's live performance] very much. Above all, seeing that view before me made me think "this band can go much, much higher (further)". So, I decided to continue with the band.
Thankyou for posting that. I had not read it before. It gives an interesting view or where MISA's head was at. I'm guessing she's much happier with the music they create today as well.
After Kanami finishes her last blazing solo, Saiki sings, "Our pulses race together." Indeed! Band-Maid. Domination. Nuff said! Thx, Nnnnani Bros!

My favorite part about this video is after MISA's bass solo Kanami take that little step forward into a power stance for her solo.
@@Maidiac214 Cool you noticed that. I see things like that all the time and wonder if others see it too. Like, do people pick up on Kanami's hormonic pinch on her first (criminally low volume) solo... or that awesome picking riff where she has to stretch her fingers on a bar cord near the end of the last verse, etc., etc. All of them have special musical and character moments that make watching their videos over and over super fun. 🤘Thx!

Oh, an amazing video to watch what these ladies personalities are like check out the Herman Li (from Dragon Force) "audition" for Band Maid with Miku and Kanami. There is some amazing shredding from Herman Li and the ladies. I completely fell in love with them after watching this video. Herman Li does a fantastic interview with them on his Twitch channel that's worth checking out. It is an hour and 37 minutes and not a dull moment in the entire interview. It culminates with Hermann's audition.

You will not believe it. They gather at Akane who plays drums in the middle of the live song and meet face to face. It has a funny face and is trying to laugh at the other member. It's a Japanese children's play. In Freedom, there are scenes where Akane has a funny face : kissing face. They truly enjoy the live performance, and the fun is transmitted to the audience.

It's hard to understand, there is a scene in PLAY where Saiki sees Akane's Hengao and laughs, and the pitch is a little off.
Each of us who already saw them live will tell you it was one of the best concerts of their life! They give everything, everytime. From the first to the last song. And they have the best possible interraction with their audience.
Another fun reaction guys! Bandsmaid (see what I did there) are my favourite band of the last 30 yrs. Their MV's are really good, but their live performances are great. I suggest you stay with this live concert for a couple more times. Freedom (great drum solo) and Play showcase their live brilliance. Always fun to see reactors hear Bandmaid live for the first time. We ALL have to go see them live.

Seems like y'all are doing what I did when I first discovered BAND-MAID, every time I heard a new song it was my favorite. A must listen is the live version of About Us, it is hands down my favorite and one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Freedom (live) would be another great reaction.

All Band Maid songs are great ! So no matter what you pick the Band Maid song you are listening to at that moment will be your favourite. They are best live, however the music videos to 'Blooming' and 'Warning' are better imo. There are so many to choose from don't worry just pick one and enjoy !

Welcome to your journey down the pigeon hole. I prepared this little guide to help you handle the adventure you are about to embark on.
Once upon a time in Japan....
Miku (Who is a 800+ year old pigeon... long story) was in a short lived "idol" band in Japan and ended up working in a "Maid Cafe". She came up with idea to create a rocking band in maid costumes. A "Gap" as its called in appearance to action.
Miku found singer/songwriter Kaname (Lead Guitar and main Composer), who knew Akane - AKA "The Gorilla - she likes bananas a lot! (drums - Jazz and Classically Trained), who knew Misa - AKA the "Barefoot Assassin" (Bass, Jazz and Classically trained).
[Grab a post-it now and paste to your desk - Miku (B/U and Rhythm,) Kaname (Lead) Akane (Drums) Misa (Bass) Saiki (Vocals)]
Putting it together...
It became apparent Mikus voice wasn't really suited to the style and so they decided to go find Lead Vocals and brought in Saiki. This basically put Miku out of a job in the band she created, but instead she adapted and Kaname started teaching her guitar. That's right. She couldn't even play in the first video they did 6 years ago. Now she has a 70-80s style aggressive punk style attack on rhythm and Kaname is constantly expanding her guitar parts in challenging ways. All while singing backup.
Personally, I never could sing and play ha-ha
Their first actual song they wrote and recorded was "Alone". They have changed label since and have joined a new one now for the new album going into 2021. Their look, songs, style etc. are their own. Not studio directed.
Pretty cool these days.
Note: Miku is the main lyricist and writes in heavy metaphors that can be interpreted many ways and often confusing in translation. So, they often add parts that audiences of any language can sing along.
Freedom live from same concert is the most fun i have seen the band have on stage
I'd say SCANDAL was probably the OG for the current generation of all female j-rock bands - certainly the most successful. Though about the same ages as the Band-Maid members (the 2 drummers are long-time friends), they first made it big while still in high school back in 2008. 13 years, 9 consecutive Top-5 albums, and numerous anime OST later, and they are still going strong. Scandal's most successful album ("Hello World") was the top selling Japanese album worldwide of any genre in 2014, not coincidentally the same year Band-Maid released Thrill and when Japanese labels started taking all female rock bands more seriously. In the following years they had a couple of successful tours of the US (catering primarily to American anime fans) and even played at SXSW. Though Scandal tend to be much more pop-rock than most of the more recent all female Japanese bands, they can go pretty hard when they want to. If you want to get an idea of how much they evolved from a high school garage rock band to the mature more experimental band they are today, check out their first hit single "Doll" from 2008, followed by their 2020 punk-ska anthem "A.M.D.K.J". One thing that has been consistent over the years is their penchant for really catchy guitar riffs (as with Band-Maid, their lead guitarist writes most of their music).

Another Japanese band that been around longer than Band-maid is Scandal. You should check them out. I can give you some suggestions and links.
Possibly the future Knotfest Japan may have all or most of the bands you mentioned. Band Maid and Maximum The Hormone (MTH) was slatted to perform back in 2020, if I remembered correctly, but you know what happened. Personally, I would lean towards a Band Maid "one-man show." 2-hours of +30 songs, with a little "magic" time with Miku, Po!

I heard from a friend who works writing about metal for a magazine in the UK that even tho they have only been in Europe twice I believe they are apparently already known as one of those bands no one wants to follow. Still a limited following but they play a fantastic live show and win over audiences extremely well.

This is pretty much their calling card. If you don't "get", or at least appreciate, Band-Maid after this, I just don't think you really like music. They have technically better stuff and songs I just like more, but this is Band-Maid in one video and there's plenty more to satisfy a thirst for them.
