Watch a beginner DIYer install a mother of pearl shell backsplash using 12-by-12 mesh backed sheets. Kitchen backsplashes are both practical and beautiful. Planning and installing your own backsplash can bring a great sense of satisfaction as well.

My hubby thinks it's not possible and too much trouble to tile a backsplash ourselves. Well, if you ladies can do such a great job, I'm going try it with or without his help...wish me luck! :)
I think it looks really good. I've seen negative comments about how it doesn't match. It doesn't have to match exactly. I think it complements the color palette in the kitchen. That's her taste.
Thank you, Frances! If we all had the same visual aesthetic, life would be so boring and result in only a few "acceptable" looks in kitchens and elsewhere.
I know people who work in real estate and have been told that almost every buyer wants to change something/leave their mark on a new home and often what they want to change is what the agent or previous owner thought looked the best. Many people find neutrals bland and boring, others loathe one color or the other, etc. I've seen shows on HGTV and elsewhere where new ownders exclaim that a certain kitchen or bath has to go and they spend many thousands remodeling it...when the original looked terrific...just not to their taste.
What I personally don't like is "formula" decorating. That's my taste.
New Day Videos I agree with you. Looks fabulous! I appreciate your style!
New Day Videos ah your formula taking about if have dark counter stick with lighter cabinets or dark cabinets stick with lighter counters? Think say that so it showcases the item in room. Normally backsplash you would choose color normally lightest shade on your counter. But honestly up to you. If planning living there until your old why not choose colors you like. But if selling better go a lightet color which why show homes say stick with beiges since everything goes with it.
in my option, i think what matters is that the fact is that she likes it. Doesn't matter about the rest the world thinks
Look great! I love how it subtly sparkles. The color of the cabinets is also beautiful. Amazing work!
I LOVE seeing these videos, they are VERY, in a real house with children making noise, with bananas on the table together with the products for the tiles (it is not a criticism), this is the REAL LIFE!
I'd love for a whole accent wall to be of this tile wow!!!!! Really pretty, and I bet the light shifts are just magical!
Thanks, and yes, it looks great in the evening with the low lights also. Your comments is appreciated!
Kudos to a great project. My dad is a professional contractor (semi-retired) specializing in tile. Although he does bigger jobs than this, I always feel overwhelmed with the idea of wet saws, mastics, mixing mud/sand--whatever it is, leveling bumps in the wall, etc--- everything he tells me I need to do. He is a master, to be sure--- but, your video puts it on a level I can relate to. Thanks!
Thanks so much! You're lucky to have a dad who is a contractor...my dad wasn't great with tools or even knowing who to call!
Loves, love, love these tiles. I just did this in my kitchen today. I loved your step by step video. Just FYI (you should have added in detail how you cut the tile, but figured it out by myself and it was quite a process LOL). This is definitely the way to go if you want a nice DIY project you can do yourself. You just need a good pair of tile nippers to cut the thin tiles. I also got a tile stone filer to smooth out the edges. These tiles are thin so you don't have to bump your receptacles out to accommodate. They look awesome. I used mussle bound instead of tile mortar, no mess to clean up. These are a lite tile so mussle bound worked great. Overall, these tiles look awesome and would use them again on other projects.
WE put back splash tiles up in our kitchen last year. One thing we did differently, Lowes has an adhesive sheet product you cut and put on the wall first, instead of the mortar. Then we just pressed the sheets of tiles onto that and did the grout the usual way. It turned out great! I would really recommend that adhesive sheeting, it's fast and clean to use!
I'm a little curious what kind of longevity the adhesive will maintain especially in areas with high moisture-humidity and temperature fluctuations common in kitchens with cooking and even indoor/outdoor environmental changes? I am sure they've done a lot of research to combat environmental conditions.
This is just so refreshing to see women do a video like this. Looks gorgeous!!
realy amazing well done i'm youtuber from morocco and I love what you kichen
I’ve never seen this type of backsplash before and I’m so glad I clicked on this channel! It’s beautiful!
I want that backsplash , but I'm too chicken to do it myself, it looks beautiful.
Good job ladies, looks gorgeous! Nice to see anyone venture to projects like this and saving money from using a contractor. 🌟🌟🌟
You ladies rock! My She-ros! This project came out beautifully. I thank you for sharing.
im so glad started at the corner seen some diys start at the end but then doesn't look straight.
I think I would have taken the tile all the way to the window's and up to the ceiling there. Stopping 4 inches to the side of the window somehow looks unfinished. That's just an suggestion, you did a remarkable job with all you have done on this!
Kasey Burt
I'm not sure where you're talking about. They did take it all the way to the window casings. Given the depth of the wood trim, that's where you would stop.
I complement you for your hard beautiful work.👍🌷
Thank you for your kind words.
I was told the tile did not need sealing, but sealing the grout was recommend, so I used the stain blocker for the grout. So far, it is looking great. I think there are some sanded products that might need sealing.
OMG!!! This is gorgeous. Great work ladies!
This so pretty!!! You and your friend did a great job.
Very pretty and great job! Love one how girly it is. I would however, bring the tile around on the undone wall around the sink window area and cabinets, especially since there is a silver tone outlet cover not matching and standing out.
You should have finished the tile all the way up to the ceiling and to the other side of kitchen. It looks great but somewhat un finished but I like it. I'm all about DIY budget friendly projects. Thank you, Ms. Lorraine M. from Sicklerville,NJ.👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌👌✌✌✌✌✌
Thanks for watching and for you comment!
Looks great but agree with Lorraine Murray, I would have run the mosaic all the way around!
Your backslash came out beautiful! Thanks for sharing! I sort of feel confident that I can do this too so, thanks again!
Thanks so much! Good luck with your project. I think it is very rewarding to "do it yourself".
Stunning kitchen, I want those cabinets and countertops! So timeless and elegant.
Thanks so much! 😊
it would be really helpful if you can link where you got all the stuff from
Beautiful! Seeing this has made up my mind (finally!!) on what I want to use for mine. So very pretty!!
You girls did a great job! I am about to do a backsplash in my kitchen and this video helps me out a lot, and the mother of pearl looks beautiful!
these tiles are so super pretty. I didn't know they made these.
They are holding up very well . Some people use them in bathrooms also or just for accent with other backsplash tiles. Thanks for watching
This project is really beautiful it's worth all the effort you put in on this project, lovely tile too
Love that Granite, and the Backsplash tile is really pretty... I personally would not have used it together.
You did a very nice job on the placement of the tile.
I saw that exact tile at home depot today I was extremely tempted to purchase some for the backsplash in my bathroom. It looks great!
It would look great in a bathroom - more unusual for a kitchen, but I continue to love it there also.
You should have finished and gone all the way above sink--- would have made a great focal point. Anyway looks great. V
What a gorgeous backsplash - will have to try this in my new house! I bet the mother of pearl backsplash would look beautiful with a seashell mosaic countertop. The plain white switchplates look great, and the under-cabinet lighting makes a huge difference. Thanks for posting!
GORGEOUS! Thanks for sharing!
💚💜💙💛💗💛💙💜💚
There's an attachment for an electric or cordless drill for mixing that coats like $5. It makes sure your consistency of grout is even and it's not awkward like using a painter's stick.
That would look wonderful in a beachy bathroom. :)
I'm going to do this to my back splash in the bathroom, (winter project) I have the beach scene going on.
Didn’t show how to trim the actual shell/mother of pearl. How did you get the straight lines? Did you use a tile cutter or a diamond saw?
wow!!! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! you make it look soooo easy lol
Girl Power..get it ladies good job...You give me hope I will be doing this project.
Wow, It looks great! I love the look and you did it like a pro. Great job!
I love this backsplash!!!
Thanks so much for your positive comment!

Looks great, fantastic job ladies.
I love the mother of pearl tile sheets 😉 I would’ve liked them (for me ) in the bathroom area ... or on top of my old kitchen bench island to give it a new lease of life 🤗👍
You ladies are brave. It looks beautiful.
Beautiful tile, it looks amazing! It really adds light and interest to the space. Thanks for making such a great video!
Thanks so much for watching and for you nice comment!
The backsplash looks gorgeous! You did an impressive job.
You did a beautiful job! It looked complicated; but you mastered it! Thanks for sharing! 👍👍👍
Thanks so much for your positive comment!
Amazing! They are really very pretty and I love how the iridescence reflects different colors from different light sources! I think they complement the cabinetry very nicely. The only thing I would change is the countertops, which look nice here, but I would have the stone be a little more toned down. It would be cool to have some form of stone which had iridescent flecks in it as well.
the blacksplash is very pretty. I would purchase it for my kitchen. thanks for the DIY tfs
I love these tiles! Great job!
It looks amazing!
Thanks so much for putting the link to this shop. I'm crazy in love about it!
I really like the mother of pearl. so pretty!

She is doing a great job!!! She is giving confidance to just get to it!!! Thank you!
Thank you for your comment! It's nice to hear something positive!
I love it! Nice job!. I want this same shell backsplash. My granite is similar but darker background with the same colors. Thank you for sharing. You made my choice easier!
that looks awesome, great job love that shine on the tiles.
very nice!!! women's power!!
pops that lighting right out..pleasant ambiance good job!
Thanks so much!
looks clean, bright and classy. nice job, and you can do my back splash as soon as you're ready. 😆
I love it but the peel n stick works well also. Great job ladies. 💜👍😉
You did a fantastic job ladies. So very beautiful. Congratulations.
nice job ! even liked hearing the kids in the background : ]
I see everybody doing itin the kitchen. I would love to have it behind my bed.
the blacksplash is very pretty. I would purchase it for my kitchen. thanks for the DIY. tfs
Thanks for watching :)
Really Really Pretty ladies love the Pearl against the brown marble countertops nice
Thank you so much. It's good to hear positive comments; a few viewers have criticized the choice, but we like it!
Most people today are just out right nasty, jealous, and full with envy. You look at that beautiful wall you ladies did an amazing job.
New Day Videos how on earth could anybody criticize this diy, it is beautiful
I'm just jealous it's not my back splash. Nice job. It adds just enough sparkle.
Gorgeous!
Wow this is pretty!
Very pretty and professional looking!
BEAUTIFUL JOB WOW!!! I LIKE THAT TYPE OF BACK SPLASH. I FINALLY FOUND SOME ORCHID PURPLE BACK SPLASH IN WHICH I WILL BE USING AND IT IS VERY PRETTY. IT LOOKS GOOD WITH THE SILVER THANK YOU FOR SHARING GREAT VIEDO!!
Thanks for your positive comment and good luck with your backsplash. Orchid purple
sounds beautiful.
This is so BEAUTIFUL!!! AWSOME JOB!
Thanks for your encouraging comment!
Very pretty.
Love, this idea, TYFS going to try myself, Great Job, Lady!!!!
this was very helpful thanks a bunch and the backsplash was gorgeous
WOW! Looks so professional. It might be my personal thing but the things on the counter detract. Blocks that amazing glimmer of the shine.
The mother of pearl is really beautiful, you did a great job. :)
Love It! Beautiful Ladies💪👍
You make it look so easy !!!! Beautiful!
This is gorgeous ladies! I'm going to do this when I move to my condo. It's not far from the Jersey Shore so it's perfect!! Great job~ 🌹
Thanks and good luck with your future project!
I absolutely love it and your courage at posting your projects. Have you thought about the tile going right up to the edge of both walls at the sink area? It seems that the continuity would be more pleasing to the eye. Your counters match up flush to either edge so why not the tile as well? Barring that, I would to hire you both!💐
I thought about that and wondered if it should end where the cabinets end , but you might be right. I could always add more tile! Thanks for your comment.
Great job! Thanks 4 sharing.
That is gorgeous!
This is absolutely gorgeous. Great job you did with this. Thanks for sharing your ideas with us. Appreciate it.
Nice work but it would look better with a white kitchen ladies
nice work. u should change the sockets n covers to stainless steel to match the stove n microwave
I might try that and see how it looks. Thanks.
How do you cut the mother of pearl? Thanks, looks great!
Thanks for asking. I've seen so many of these that leave out that step, and it is frustrating. Why load incomplete instructions?
Love the Mother of Pearl! And your cabinetry and color is gorgeous too!
It looks amazing! You totally rocked it!!!!!
Love this idea. My kitchen is yellow and I have no idea what color backsplash would look good. Beautiful kitchen btw
Thanks. Your kitchen might look good with white subway tiles. The only problem is they are more difficult to cut. I only had to use little nippers for these - of course, they make lots of different colors and styles of these now.
We all have different tastes so the negative comments directed at your job/results here, just don't matter.
I Love your counter tops- are they real granite? If not they look like it. I'm so tired of the solid ones where every single crumb shows on them. (No offense to the solid color counter top people). All in all very beautiful! Who knew a white pearl back splash would go so well? You worked so hard! Stunning outcome! When's dinner?
Yes, they are granite and almost nothing shows on them. I have to remind myself to clean them because crumbs don't show at all. I used to have counters that were almost solid in color and they often looked liked they needed cleaning.
My counter tops are so similar to yours and I love them! That's the reason I do. I actually have to ''feel'' around for any crumbs too! ha!
I would have taken up the tile on the wall by the sink area, on both sides of that window. It would have looked more complete and professional that way. Other than that my hats off to you ladies. Good job.
Great job ladies! ☺
Have you found these to be pretty durable being natural shell? I'm debating using them in my kitchen as I'm a messy cooker and use a lot of spray cleaner. I'm 99% sure I'll be using them in my half bathroom though! Looks beautiful!
love it, you ladies did an awesome job. 🤗
I found stain blocker expensive and totally useless. You did a great job with your tiles. Love the colour.
Thanks. I'm not sure how much the stain blocker does really.
I love this! And it's so easy to do.
Easy is good! Thanks!
Love your cabinets too
Nice job! But, should you stop the backsplash at the edge of "under cabinets" (@ 7:14? Looks a little odd not tiling the entire wall, ( all the way to window, and bulletin board)?...to me.. but is the recommended method?
Great work young ladies! I love it!
Nice to have a friend to help.💕
Did you use any type of edging where it ends, such as Schluter or pencil edging? If not, how did you protect the raw side edges and also make them look even? I love the look of this tile. You did a great job!
Same question here. Looks great!
Judy MH how was the tile cut?
she cut the mesh with scissors
Bedroom sets
All of their edging is at a structural stop - window casing, wall or cabinet. You only need those kinds of edge treatments where you're creating an edge against an open side. Otherwise, the grout fills in up to your wall/cabinet edge.
That’s really pretty
