ധോൾ എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്ന കാട്ട് നായ്ക്കൾ ജീവനോടെ ഇരയെ കടിച്ച് പറിച്ച് തിന്നും . കാട്ടിലെ ഏറ്റവും കിടുക്കി സംഘമാണിവർ.. ഇവർ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചാൽ ആരെ വേണമെങ്കിലും കൊല്ലും.അത്രയ്ക്കും മികച്ച സ്ട്രാറ്റജി, സ്പീഡ്, ഒത്തൊരുമ അതാണ് ഇവരുടെ വിജയം.പുലർകാലമാണ് ഇവരുടെ ഇഷ്ടവേട്ടസമയം. . നിലാവുള്ള രാത്രികളിലും വേട്ടനടത്തും.പകലൊക്കെയും. ഭക്ഷണം കിട്ടും വരെ തിരഞ്ഞ് ഓടിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കും കൊന്നുതിന്നുക എന്നതല്ല ഇവരുടെ രീതി. കുറച്ചുകൂടി ഭീകരമാണ്. ചാവുന്നതിനുമുന്നേതന്നെ തിന്നുതുടങ്ങും.എല്ലിൽ നിന്നും മാംസം പൂർണ്ണമായും വേർപെടുത്തി മാറ്റി എടുക്കാൻ അറിയാം. ഭക്ഷണത്തിൽ മാംസം തന്നെയാണ് പ്രധാന പങ്ക്. വലിയ ഊർജ്ജം ആവശ്യമുള്ളതാണ് ഇവരുടെ വേട്ടഓട്ടങ്ങൾ. സാധാരണ നായകൾ മിശ്രഭുക്കുകളായി പരിണാമം സംഭവിച്ചവയാണല്ലോ. അവയുടെ പല്ലുകൾ അത്തരത്തിൽ പരിഷ്കരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ ധോലുകൾക്ക് മാംസ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് മാത്രം ഉതകും വിധം പരിണമിച്ചതാണ് പല്ലുകൾ. . ഒറ്റ ഇരിപ്പിന് നാലുകിലോ മാംസം വരെ ഇവർ അകത്താക്കും. വലിയ ഓട്ടങ്ങൾക്ക് ശേഷമാകും നൂറു കിലോ വരെ ഭാരം ഉള്ള വലിയ കുളമ്പ് ജീവികളെ ഇവർ കൊല്ലുക. പുള്ളിമാനും മ്ലാവും പന്നിയും മാത്രമല്ല കരുത്തരായ കാട്ടുപോത്തിന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെപ്പോലും വേട്ടയാടി കൊല്ലും. അസമിൽ ഒരു ആനക്കുട്ടിയെ കൊന്നതായി റിപ്പോർട്ട് ഉണ്ട്. സംഘത്തിലെ പിള്ളേർക്കാണ് തീറ്റയിൽ മുങണന. അവർക്ക് മാംസം പൊളിച്ചും കീറിയും ഒക്കെ ഒരുക്കി നൽകും.കുടൽമാലയും മറ്റും തിന്നാതെ ഒഴിവാക്കും.
