Ranking EVERY New Feature in the Minecraft 1.20 Update

- The Minecraft 1.20, or trails and tales update, has finally been released. This update adds in a ton of new features such as bamboo and cherry wood, trail ruins, pottery, and armor trims! However, not every feature is as good as each other. So today I thought it would be fun to rank every new feature in the minecraft 1.20 update from the worst to the best!

This has probably been said before but they should make it so if you add glow ink sacs with armor trims, the trim glows. Not necessarily like a light source, but like how the glow signs work.
I've never seen this concept before and I fucking love it. Take my updoot.
ooh this is cool. you should work at mojang
@@americanredstart lol thanks, if only...
They should also just allow us to use ink sacks like we use all other dyes in the game. Seriously, why can't we also make leather armor, wool, sheep and beds all glow in the dark?
@@galegopaulista4564 I would do anything for a glow in the dark sheep, but yeah true
Please rank every enchantment, would make a great video
this may seem like a dumb question but would this be ranking each value because if not then automatically the ones with value like fortune or efficiency are more versatile than ones that dont like riptide or mending (ik that mending is most likely the best even in versatility its just an example)
Vouch
@@daryncollins7640 I was thinking ranking them on creativity and uniqueness mostly with versatility only playing a small factor
yes do thagt
Yeah good idea
i think it would be cool if they added suspicious sand and gravel to more structures, ANCIENT cities deserve some archeology as they their entire point is being ancient and dark.
Suspicious sculk
I think the less a structure is used the more archeology can help. When I look at it i think this is the list from least to most for how much a structure gains from archeology .1-the Stronghold and Nether fortress need it the least as they are important progression structures in the game, though I still would like it 2- Ancient Cities, Piglin Bastions, and End Cities all have incredibly special loot already and so are lower priority (sculk, the sneaking enchant, the silence trim!!, the netherite upgrade, and the elytra come from these. You get it) 3- super common structures like the buried shipwreck, pillager outposts, mineshaft and mob dungeons would actually be very improved with suspicious sand and gravel. It could also be a creative way to give mineshafts and mob dungeons there own trims. And finally 4- rare structures with less value. These include the jungle temple, woodland mansion, and ocean monument, admittedly seeing a way for the woodland mansion to have sus sand and gravel organically is weird, but the ocean monument (with the trim and gold) could really use more of a loot table, and the jungle temple desperately needs something (though at least it did get an armour trim which actually made me very happy).
Now I will say that while structures like the nether fortress and ancient city really don’t benefit as much as something like the poor jungle temple, it would still be entertaining in its own right, as digging around while trying to remain quiet is still a fascinating idea.

The armour trims will definitely make wars easier to follow, as you don't have to look at shield designs, as each team would have a different colour.
XD
I was thinking about that too!
yeah, and the armor trim will specify the rank in the team! like leader, co-leader, officer and soldier
@@ohioresident1462 I never realized this till now and it fucking rules. Thanks for sharing!
The biggest problem with universal wool dyeing is it's just that, for wool. Only things made out of wool get the universal dyeing treatment. they could've easily made it for glass, terracotta, glazed terracotta, concrete, and concrete powder, but they didn't.
terracotta would be especially nice giving the amount in the trail ruins
It's actually a parity thing. This is just how it's always been over on Bedrock
It makes the most sense for wool though. And makes early game much easier. The other blocks are pretty easy to get in base form/dont make sense as universally dyeable
It makes no sense once black is black, it’s black……
@@danleonardoyo3946 do,' it uis possible to dye black clothes IRL

ARE YOOU THE IN THE CIDEO GUY
Calibrated sculk sensors do not pick up sounds from other frequencies, which does not trigger the annoying cooldown. Granted, it’s not perfect but at least sculk sensors are usable now
Not to mention the pain of trying to use a Sculk Sensor in literally any build with a piston
I think the problem with finding trail ruins could be fixed by implementing a map traded by a cartographer that points to one, like mansions and ocean monuments.
Give more maps to the cartographers. Make them more useful.
Cherry wood is so beautiful, especially the sapling. Love the channel odyssey central, dry bones for smash, and keep up the good work.
They look inspired by Sakura Village from Newer SMBWii
Too bad the biome itself isn't very big
@@bryanp5843 facts
I sure do love finding a very well hidden structure just to have a wooden hoe as a significant portion of the loot table.
If we got fireflies and pitcher plants, then an excuse to make carnivorous plants a thing in Minecraft would be there
Although you could have certain sounds/vibrations ignored using comparators before, the skulk sensor would still always hear them and because of that, you run the risk of the sensor hearing a not wanted sound and then missing the wanted sound during it's cooldown. Whereas the calibrated one completely ignores all sounds apart from the one it's listening for.
As an added bonus, the calibrated sculk sensor has a shorter cooldown compared to the regular one.
@@GamingBren and twice the range!
I love making stories of fictional or things I actually encounter in Minecraft so the new bookshelves are very welcome. Plus the archeology mechanic adds a BUNCH of new side game missions to do when you are board, desert wells now have a USE!!!
‘side game missions’ like what? have you seen the loot tables for the “archaeology”?
I think it would be cool if they added a sapling that looked similar to the cherry tree sapling but with green leaves. The bonsai tree look is great, but you might not want every single build to have the cherry blossom motif, especially considering real life cherry trees only bloom for a couple of weeks.
I like the part where odyssey central said its ranking time, and then proceded to rank everything in existence (rosalina is in the top 10 worst things)
Nah top 1
Why does Odyssey hate Rosa so much??
@@12bjorn34 i think his beef is that she used to be cool in galaxy and then they neutered her personality and made her just the third princess

I was so happy to see the netherite upgrade at the bottom.
making skulk sensors "a bit easier" is an understatement. Skulk was such a niche redstone component because it was near impossible to use effectively.
Yes, you could filter out certain sounds before, but the extremely long cooldown + the fact that it's triggered no matter the scenario, even if it wont send a signal, meant that any use of it as a detection system was nearly impossible. You couldn't, say, make a trap that's activated by breaking a block because placing a block, walking, eating, etc would block the input for 2 whole seconds.
The calibrated skulk sensor is practical.
A couple gripes/suggestions I have with this update: (maybe in the 1.20.1 update?)
-The sniffer got so much hype, and now what? You’re just telling me it adds some useless decorations, without ANY, even niche, functionality? I guess they look nice, but the pitcher I can only imagine fitting in some sort of jungly/prehistoric style build. The torchflower is just a hyped up orange tulip. A suggestion I have is to make the pitcher plant deter arthropods, because that’s what they do in real life (they are carnivorous) so that bees/spiders/etc don’t go near them. A bit of a niche function but it could be useful for making bee farms that keep the bees in an area without looking like the inside of a toilet. There also appears to be a scrapped vine type, which sucks because it looked like it would be a great match for lush cave builds. Also, like the video says, Mojang, please make the sniffer unearth pottery sherds. A way this could work is that the sniffer would always dig up a sherd when in its respective structure, therefore omitting rng from the equation.
- Remove the netherite trim. It’s just annoying. Or better, make it so that netherite gear crafted without it loses its enchants, and that would allow it to keep it. It’s just a way of making the trim still functional without upsetting servers.
-Camels should spawn naturally in deserts. I’m not aware if they only spawn in desert villages because I can only seem to find them there, but they could work like horses. It would just add so much needed life to the desert biome, and being a village exclusive kills the mood.
-Still love the update though! Don’t take this as a rant/insult to the update, just a list of some suggestions for its features.
I've seen people use the Pitcher Plant's turnip like pre growth state as a nice decoration. Using string to stop the growth, so that's another thing going for it. Mojang really should add an item that stops plant growth one of these days.
I finally got enough scrap to make a netherite ingot a few days ago, and I was completely unaware about the netherite upgrade. So I went to a bastion for the first time a couple days ago, and got knocked into lava. I had a sharp 5/unbreaking 3/knockback 2 diamond sword, fort 3/eff 4/ unbreaking 3 diamond pickaxe, infinity/power 5/ unbreaking 3/ punch 2 bow, armor trimmed chestplate and leggings, a stack of gold, and 9 normal golden apples...all gone because I was too lazy to go back for fire resist potions
8:09 That's actually very helpful. Especially with the sign on the storage. Always accidentally edit it.
This is honestly a great, even if small update
The sniffer is a good addition even if it has little use now, more flowers can (better) be added in the future by mojang and mod creators
Archeology shouldve never been the sole focus of an update though. When it was first announced way back in Minecraft live on 1.17 most people saw it as a side or filler content that somewhat compliment the overhaul of caves and pretty much glossed over it. Yes the caves overhaul was definitely more bigger and prominent then the archeology which is why it was mostly ignored but archeology now is such a boring and skip able feature. Would've wanted something else over it
@@bryanp5843 nah I like archaeology, I’m glad it is in the game now instead of later
The sign waxing thing was probably made for servers

It would have been cool if Golden Armor Trims made Piglens act like you were wearing gold armor.
0:55 Dammit Odyssey! I clicked on this video purely to see if you’d prefer the Howl Sherd or the Cherry Fence Gate. I am disappointed beyond belief, and you’ve committed a sin of the highest degree.
Where’s the debate about whether the bamboo stairs win against the arms up pottery sherd
man i came to this video to see how the cherry wood fence gate 😳 compares to the howl potery sherd 😳 when you said you werent going to compare i broke up crying 😭😭😭😭😭😭
The /place structure Command is my favourite technical addition. So many cool possibilities!
This is a very well made list! I was a little disappointed to see the Sniffer so low, but by a practicality standpoint, it really should dig up more than two exclusive seeds. I will say I really like the new plant designs, but new items being dug up by the Sniffer is very likely to come in a future update.
I think netherite upgrade templates are fine. Netherite was already relatively pretty easy to gain, despite the fact that netherite was supposed to be the penultimate of accomplishments.
Locking netherite behind a rare item makes netherite that more sought after, and the ability to copy them would make an interesting monopoly of sorts that would be a fun concept in survival servers.
Piglin bastions are now more like endgame nether fortresses, where instead of housing an item that gives you access to the next dimension, it gives you access to stronger gear. Bastions we're already pretty useless in the endgame, since you already would have plenty of ores and resources at that point.
The nether already needed something to encourage adventuring through it. Having netherite Pre 1.20 tells other players that you're good at mining netherack, but having netherite post 1.20 tells others that you earned it. You mastered transportation through the most dangerous environment in the game, you fought through a fortress full of strong mobs, and you're good at mining netherack.
Also, netherite should say that you've gained all the resources before it and have climbed the ladder through the different levels. Now, you need wooden tools to get stone, stone to get iron, iron to get diamond, diamond to get obsidian, and now gold to get through the bastions unnoticed and gain netherite. Before, gold was just a weird neesh, separated from the ladder of gear. Now it's basically required to gain the highest level.
I really love the new armor trims, it just helps you customize your look so much. The main interesting part of my skin is my character's face, having no eyes and tusks, and the rest of the skin is kind of bland, but the armor adds so much to it, I absolutely love it.
LESSGOO new odyssey Minecraft video!
I'd put Trail Ruins a bit higher, since if you find one, and have the time/patience to clear it out, you've got a really good base
I completely agree with armour trims being #1 they’re the feature I was most excited for because my favourite things in games is always customizability
It’s a good day when Odyssey Central says Mario in a video
2:20 my favourite sound effect ever made
Great video! Next time could you go over how the Bamboo Trapdoor compares to the Snifflet?
I find the trail ruins experience very calming. It encourages you to take things slow and be careful, and I find that not annoying at all.
1.20's archeology features are actually so forgettable that I actually found a trail ruins and thought it was a generation glitch because I completely forgot the structure was even a thing.
Seeing you upload more minecraft ranking videos makes me excited for the definitely real all advancements ranking video
you should rank all of the structures, i think it would be really interesting
I think the Cherry Grove would look 10x better if it had snow on the ground. But instead we have regular green grass, which breaks the immersion for me.
I could see how the petals would bug out on the snow, but all they would need to do is add a separate block that consists of snow with cherry petals on top. Breaking it would give you cherry petals, and breaking with a shovel would give you a snowball and cherry petals.
Fun fact: camels are the first minecraft mob to be able to walk over fences.
This is way better than one of those recap videos. Please make these for future updates.
Trail ruins are actually really fun to excavate, and the silence armor trim with gold makes you look and feel like a fire god
They added the netherite upgrade templates because people complained it was too easy to get full netherite and now everyone is complaining. I personally don't mind the change.
I immediately noticed the Tears of the Kingdom shrine music around the 10 min mark. Nice vid!
So minor correction for sculk sensors the reason the calibrated is different from comparators is comparators let everything above through too. This means calibrated sensors and comparators have similar uses but major differences. The change to amethyst is kind of boring and not useful from what I know probably could be used well in traps.
This is amazing! Earned a new sub
I love archaeology because i traveled all the five structures to scavenge the treasure and it was an amazing adventure and lots of fun especially when you get sniffer egg and smithing templates
I am just like odyssey where i only go to the trail ruins for the wayfinder raiser shaper and host armor trim, the burn danger friend heart heartbreak howl sheaf pottery sherd and the relic music disc.
2:28 You cant say "its intended purpose/use aside, ___ blank is pretty useless"
Also its pretty big. With each addition to redstone, 2 things happen. 1 You are able to do something you couldn't before. 2 While you may have been able to do something before, it's far simpler and cheaper, making it able to be used more commonly, compactly, and in much more reasonable manner. The second is really important because it can save, space, resources, and allow for more complex machines without as complex circuitry.
Loving your content btw
Even though the cherry biome is just pink savanna, I still love it. The cherry trees and wood is beautiful and sometimes less is more. I think for a small improvement could be to add ants to it (don’t know why ants but it could be cool I guess) or some other passive mob
Something I want to see next update is birds, I think having different biomes have different types of birds would be cool and I don’t think they need to do anything in terms of drops or functionality. I think they would just be a nice passive mob for the atmosphere
So you basically want reskinned bats? Ambience is good, but people love Minecraft for its gameplay.
@@HungryWardenyes, absolutely. I think that birds and fireflies would be great for the atmosphere. Bats are cool for the atmosphere in caves, even if they do nothing
I think that the Camel mob deserves to be a little bit higher on the list, because most mobs that are mor or less the same size of the player (zombies, husks, drowneds, piglins, zombified piglins, etc) and their baby counterparts can't hurt the player(s) while riding the Camel. This feature could be used to farm gold in the Nether pretty easily, by bringing a Camel to the Nether, ride them and start killing zombified piglins with no other major worries! Considering how gold farms tend to be giant and very resource consuming, this is a great improve!
Putting slabs as flooring ignoring the little gap in between is just evil
Slabs save materials and besides as long as you cant see the underside it doesnt matter
keep on going, your videos are awesome
Ok, my turn.
1(best): armour trims. Simply... Yes. Customizable armour? I'll do anything.
2: Trail ruins. A new structure that you can mine through, find incredible new crap and basically find brush operated fruit machines.
3: Urns. The DECORATION IDEAS. And finding their shards is so fun to do.
4: Calibrated sculk sensors. I like redstone so this should be fun to use.
5: Sniffers. I'LL NEVER FORGET YOU, TUFF GOLEM!
6: the Relic disk. *Banger.*
7: Camels. Basically a rarer horse that I genuinely forgot about for a while.
8: Netherite upgrade templates. *Ew.*
1:11 Why everyone hating on the smithing template it just makes OP gear slightly more fair to get. All I had to do was raid two bastions and mine a stack of diamonds and I had 10 smithing templates for all my gear.
Edit: I don't play multiplayer so I see how it could be bad from that side of things. If it was renewable at the bastion but also still hard to get I think that would solve things.
pottery shards would be ten times better if they could colored to make those patterns colorful, and maybe then having ability to color whole pot to change color of 'background'
ok. so where you are wrong for the skulk stuff. is that before it was not just harder. but plain imposible to work with.
So before the skulk would activate and then we could filter the sound. now its filtered directly on activation. meaning you can spma sound making stuff without ever actuivating it. until the right sound is emited. as well as being buffed in every way shape and form. (because the original one need to not be too strong because of the warden).
How dare you put the camel so low, but still great vid, love all of them
Fun fact: bamboo blocks take 9 bamboo pieces, but shows 16
Fun fact: Armor has the most variants of any Minecraft item by a large margin. First, there’s 6 different types. Leather, Chain Mail, Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Netherite. Plus, there’s 5,713,438 different colors you can dye your Leather Armor. Also, with the different armor trims which is 16 and the 10 different materials the armor can be trimmed with, this brings our grand total at 914,150,880 different ways your armor can look. Jesus Christ, Mojang
My favorite armor trim is silence and I especially like the amethyst and Redstone colors on armour trims
man chiseled bookshelves are so good i have been waiting for them since i started playing the game
The music you played at 5:57 was nostalgic
Darn it now I want to see an Every sapling in Minecraft ranked video
Cant believe my brain said this to me: "wait am i subbed to odd?" OF COURSE I AM AND EVERYONE SHOULD BE TOO
I think that for the smithing templet it shoul be able to be craft with a ghast tear and surround it with netherite scraps or ingots making it a litle bit mor avaiable than trying to fin a bastion if you have just started your world , thanks for the video (:
Always a great time when Odyssey Central uploads
True dat
My Minecraft addiction has been enhanced.
It'd be cool if the pitcher pod and the torch flower could function as an infinite water source and a super bright torch light source, respectively
I got my silence trim in my second ancient city :) it's unfortunate that it mutes the color a bit tho, you can barely see the amethyst coloring (my personal favorite) on enchanted netherite without turning down the enchantment glint setting.
Odyssey central thank you for making us funny and good edited videos

Torchflower should emit tiny bit of light.
Quick thing i wanted to say
I was exploring a server I was in, and found an ancient city. After looting, spawning sone wardens and running away, then looting again, i actually found it first try!
I spent a day and a half looking for ancient cities and got the silence trim on the 7th one
ik everyone looks down on trail ruins but i excavated one and it was very fun. i also hated on them when they were first added but now ive changed my mind.
I like how the Vex trim makes you look like an Evoker.

Great video!

It would so cool if you made a level by level about metro kingdom! I really like your level by level videos.
So basically with the Netherite Smithing Template, you pulled a Ceave Gaming, where he outsourced the Super Bell from his main power up ranking video.
The torch flower thing is literally what happened with the glow squid. Meaning it's going to be talked about until it starts glowing like the glow squid
The bamboo planks are good for backroom designs.
Ranking every block is something I would like to see.
It took my 5 hours and 5 trail ruins to find a single relic disc cause of how the rng for the discs is set up
Sniffer could easily be a #1, if it gave new plants to make unique potions with, new crops, new wood types, and more decorative blocks as well as some special plants with brand new and unique features.
all of those ideas were thrown in here: 🗑️
I would love if they add smash able pots where you can put loot and make it get destroyed by a sword in one shot for adventure maps.
I don't agree on most of these (Ik it's an opinion) but yeah, armor trims get 1st place, they're the best.
The devs really couldnt think of any other item the sniffer could dig up? That's actually so lazy, it's basically a useless mob due to it only being useful to get 2 random flowers that aren't even that cool looking
There not Lazy, Jeb_ makes the decisions
7:12 they are also a great way to get bonemeal from a composter since you can do much bonemeal since when I did it I had 8 stacks of pink petals and got 47 bonemeal
I'm surprised that you still haven't done a video about Minecraft's Super Mario Mash-Up edition. I know there's nothing to talk about but I personally would really like to see a video about it. :)
I love the Cherry Blossom trees, but GOD do I hate cutting them down. Its like those monster oak trees, just a huge hassle to chop down because I'm inefficient.
Vanilla tweaks added mob head sounds to more mob heads. its truly awesome
1.20 feels like its still a snapshot
The spawn rate for silence makes sense. It’s the best armor trim so might as well make it difficult to obtain.
New door textures are easily the best feature. Also, you can change the rotation of pink petals for 16 variations!
Cheered me up when I found out that lakitus with keys must only have spinys in smm2
