  • Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

These kids don't have any real debating experience or have dealt with a lot of philosophical discussions like Cliffe has. That does not mean the kid is wrong and should convert. Cliffe is a very good communicator and excellent in rhetoric. Unfortunately for him when he debated Matt Dillahunty who is just as good, Cliffe had to constantly pivot and appeal to emotions. You really should watch that debate with an open mind that is to say if you care about reason or what makes sense rather than the ideal.

@Marlena , I experienced it differently. The kid seemed to speak just fine. Quite articulate in fact. I didn't sense any speechlessness. It was a good discussion by two intelligent people. I think Cliffe had good answers for him but it wasn't some sort of intellectual slaughter. I like this video a lot as well.

Starting at 17:30, I love that portion where he talks about how there isn't absolute certainty with anything in life. It's not realistic to live with 2+2=4 certainty with all of our decisions. There is never a guarantee for anything. I love how he brought marriage and all of his examples to relay his point. Cliffe is a word artist.
Praise God for His preservation of the Word and how more evidence points to God being the truth as time goes on. It's beautiful and brings me to tears on how people don't see it.

The gospels are eye witness accounts. The writer interviewed the disciples that actually traveled with Jesus for three years watching Him heal people and change lived and they listened to His teachings and realized Jesus was God incarnate. It’s really hypocritical to down play the eye witnesses to Jesus Christ but rely on eye witness accounts during trials in the courts. If you witnessed a car accident you would be bursting at the seams to give your eye witness account. Why should we really on your testimony but when it comes to Jesus you can’t believe the eye witness accounts of the disciples, hmmm how hypocritical.

All conscious living entities find their limited existential origins in the unlimited, conscious, living Supreme Person, God, so there can be no question of any type of regret at having parted ways with any limited living entity, when one is in God's personal presence.
Similarly, how could one possibly miss a single photon of sunlight while basking in the brilliantly effulgent presence of the sun itself?
In addition, the scriptures state that God takes special care to redeem all the family members of pure devotees, seven generations into the future, and seven generations into the past, so the conclusion is that no pure devotee of the Lord is ever subjected to missing loved ones and family members when in the eternal presence of God.

The success of the speaker is largely due to his sticking to the basics of the gospel. That is wonderful. If the speaker at any time decides to defend the Trinity, for example, that will be his demise. His reputation as a successful defender will fall to the ground. Keep an eye on this!

I just recently watched the video where Cliff discussed the trinity and he did not lose in that discussion either. He was not left speechless or caught off guard because he's honest. He explained it to the best of his ability and how he sees it. That is the goal. The goal is not to catch someone up in a trick. The goal is to express the truth to them in love. At least, the truth as it is most obviously perceived when it appeals to conscience, humanity and Christ..

Please give me the site for that video. I am a defender of the first century gospel. The Trinity was never a part of the early church! It was the Greek fathers of the second and third centuries who taught this pagan doctrine. In the fourth century these fathers along with others aligned themselves with Rome and Constantine. The rest is history.
Again, please give me the address to that video, so that I can see for myself. Thank you.

An atheist is a person who does not believe in the existence of gods. Period. This position describes all atheists, where some may claim that gods do not exist and some claim they simply lack the belief.
The atheist position is by definition NOT based in the positive claim that gods do not exist.

Christians thinking they need to convert/save unbelievers is akin to the moral this African proverb:
"How the Monkeys saved the Fish"
    (Traditional Tanzanian Folktale)
The rainy season that year had been the strongest ever and the river had broken its
banks. There were floods everywhere and the animals were all running up into the
hills. The floods came so fast that many drowned, except the lucky monkeys who
climbed up into the treetops. They looked down on the water where the fish were
swimming and jumping out of the water as if they were the only ones enjoying the
    flood.
One of the monkeys saw the fish and shouted: "Look down, my friend, look at those poor creatures. They are going to drown. Do you see how they struggle in the water?"
"Yes," said the other monkey. "They could probably not escape the floods, because
they seem to have no legs. How can we save them?" "I think we must do something.
Let's go close to the edge of the flood where the water is not deep enough to cover
us, and we can help them to get out."
So the monkeys did just that. They started catching the fish, but not without difficulty.
One by one, they brought them out of the water and put them carefully on the dry
land. After a short time there was a pile of fish lying on the grass motionless.
One of the monkeys said, "Do you see? They were tired, but now they are just sleeping and resting. Had it not been for us, my friend, all these poor animals without legs would
    have drowned."
The other monkey said: "They will be very grateful because we have saved their lives."

I would take issue with something Cliffe says at about 8 mins in, he says Jesus Christ made a truth claim about being the son of God. What do we have to go on regarding that Jesus actually said that? I'm of the opinion that those words were not Jesus's, but an anonymous author claiming to be Jesus. Outside of the Gospels we have little to go on that any of this stuff actually happened.

Joshua Hults Hmm, the only initial reports of Jesus's death are only found in the gospels, which were written decades after his supposed death, plenty of time for those reports of Jesus's life to become embellished to the point of claims of him being the son of God. I don't think the Turin shroud has been proven as being Jesus's actual burial cloth, but you are free to believe that Joshua.

This is a classic misunderstanding of the historical research done on Jesus. Imagine asking yourself what other historical sources there are regarding Alexander The Great that is not Greek. Now certainly there are, but Greek historical collections, as you would expect, allows the researcher more confidence simply because its done within the geographical area of Alexander's lifetime. The same goes for the gospels, there are exogenous sources for the historicity of the life of Jesus but they exist much later( at least a 100 years ), hence providing less confidence. The gospels remain, to date, the best historical narrative for Jesus available. Unless you can find another historical source that dates within 30 years of the life and work of Jesus, the gospels should remain as the most sound historical document available to mankind.

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk Před 9 lety +1

Ming Jie Gan Hi Ming, one of the problems i have regarding the historicity of Jesus is that the gospels were written long after Jesus supposedly died, I think Mark is the oldest of the 4 synoptic Gospels and was written about 65-70 years after the time of Jesus. For me, that's quite a long time. We don't know who wrote it and it was also written in Greek, .. all these factors for me lessen it's it's actual historicity, not to mention that we don't have any original copies. I also don't believe in supernatural events, has a miracle ever occurred that's been observed by many that has been verified?. For me, it's far more likely that these stories of Jesus were most probably made up. I do believe the writings of the Apostle Paul to be pretty much genuine, i think this has been confirmed by the scholarly world. But crucially, he never met Jesus in the flesh, he only appeared to Jesus via some kind of vision or halluciantion ( on the road to Damascus). Also, i could be wrong, but i don't think Paul, in his writings, ever mentions any of Jesus's miracles, or any of his parables, this seems an incredible omission on behalf of Paul, surely if he wanted to spread the word of Christ, he would surely mention his miracle working, or re-tell some of his parables to whoever would listen.

    • @TheGanny94
      @TheGanny94 Před 9 lety

      Hi Bonnie,
' I think Mark is the oldest of the 4 synoptic Gospels and was written about 65-70 years after the time of Jesus. '
-This is false, a closer approximation is around 30-50 years. But let's say that you are right, its still a superior source document for antiquated writings because no other events in that era is comparable. Mentions of someone as important as Alexander the Great came 300 years after his life, do you discount the writings? In addition, the Pauline letter of Corinthians can be demonstrated to be written as near as 3 years after the resurrection of Christ.
' We don't know who wrote it and it was also written in Greek, .. all these factors for me lessen it's it's actual historicity, not to mention that we don't have any original copies. '
      - We can't invalidate any historical document simply because we don't know the author's name, this is to me a red herring, If Charles Darwin were to forget writing his name on the Origins of Species, would you disregard the validity of the text? I'm not sure why writing the new testament in Greek is problematic for you. Greek was a widespread language at the time. There is a reason we don't have the original copies, that is, the original copies are written on papyrus, a kind of paper that could only last around 100 years, so expectedly we don't have the original documents. This does not imply that the text is erroneous, we simply have to discuss other more ubiquitous areas on the topic.
' I also don't believe in supernatural events, has a miracle ever occurred that's been observed by many that has been verified? '
-This objection is beyond the realm of historical analysis. What your beef is with the gospel then is philosophy. You rule out the possibility of miracles with your anti-supernaturalist beliefs. In other words, you are making a category error with this objection. Well with regards to verification, these documents prove to be the closest to any sort on justification of a miracle. But of course you'd say that its just writings. Miracles are important to discuss but not important enough to be included in historical discussions.
' For me, it's far more likely that these stories of Jesus were most probably made up. '
      - If you hold to this position, then you have a heavy amount of lifting to do. You need to justify historical events like, the empty tomb, the disciples unwavering belief, claims that Jesus appeared to 500 people post-mortem. The 'made up' hypothesis just does not account for these historical facts. '
' Also, i could be wrong, but i don't think Paul, in his writings, ever mentions any of Jesus's miracles, or any of his parables, this seems an incredible omission on behalf of Paul, surely if he wanted to spread the word of Christ, '
-Well, was he not denied sight for three days, then regained it after? Sounds like a miracle to me.
