  • Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

The last 25% (or so) of this video really spoke to me. Love how the Holy Spirit can orchestrate circumstances to where He communicates to us just what we need to know at any particular point in time-our daily mana so-to-speak. We serve a mysterious God. His ways are higher than ours. We see through a glass darkly but one day we shall know even as we are known.

Seems to me there's far too much focus on the Abraham/Isaac scenario that leaves many asking "What kind of god would ask one of his followers to murder their own son?Let's be real, though it was indeed a test, the real purpose of the event was to serve as a preview of what was to come: that while we need NOT give up our sons in sacrifice, GOD would. The story is less about a test of Abraham (though again, that too), and more about having us think about the extent that God loves us, because for Him, His Son wasn't taken from the altar. For us. Let's not get so caught up in the practicalities of the narrative.

FACT: The test was about obeying GOD absolutely ( I AM THAT I AM ) in the name of JESUS. Whether the child dies or does not is irrelevant. GOD can bring back a precious creation back to life at the exact moment of death like it never happened. GOD values seeing a " living soul being " having the humility to recognize an all powerful loving of absolute perfection before them and knowing that THY is the only one whom will always be on your side no matter what. Such a gift is too precious just to give out to doubters, disbelievers, the lukewarm and so on. Imagine this: evil men poison the entire world but you are spared because your relationship with GOD is so perfect. You literally could be the only body standing in absolute death and destruction yet nothing can kill you. That is the meaning of GOD! The belief in absolutes of the highest order of good!

People seem to forget something about the account of Abraham and Isaac. There are 10 chapters testifying to the relationship Abraham had with GOD. And this was not a private relationship. Others witnessed and had roles in how GOD proved time and time again HIS faithfulness to Abraham. Abraham was so in tune with GOD that he was confident enough to question GOD's justice and ask for mercy.
So when GOD spoke to Abraham about Isaac, it was pretty certain that he could trust GOD. Hebrews 11:17 confirms this. Stop thinking Abraham just heard a voice from GOD.
Most people show a more foolish faith when they let their kids get on a school bus. You have no idea who that bus driver is or if they are in any condition to drive, but you gladly send them on their way essentially sacrificing them to the unknown. And for some parents that has proven to be the last they ever saw of their children.
Isaac likely was not a child, may very well have been considered an adult. Had to be pretty strong to carry the wood up the mountain.

    • @rockerobertson4002
      @rockerobertson4002 Před 3 lety

The reason people should forget about abraham and isaac is because they are iron age myth. Why do modern humans, who are theoretically capable of thinking on their own 2 feet, depend on and worship late bronze age, early iron age myths. Keeping in mind, iron age man was pretty primitive. Minus early Greek / Roman cultures. The new testament as it stands is pretty over the top myth, with some history here and there. But the OT is %100 myth. Faith is not a reasonable tool for guidance. Faith is what you use when you have no evidence or proof of some kind to show something exists or is real. You need faith to be religious. And therein, is the problem. Know your bible, actually learn how it came about. Have a healthy amount of skepticism. Did the donkey really talk? Stay safe.

    A couple of things:
1.) The binding of Issac was about obedience, but that is not all.
2.) God is setting a precedent with it. Not even if you think God told you to, do you sacrifice your son. It is the first place that God announced this part of the law.
3.) God derives his law from his nature. God is Good. So it is not Good because God said so, but rather God is Good, thus He only tells you Good things. Justice or forgiveness, it is always Good if God has told you. Why? Because God is Good, not because it is stated.
Very little of what God has said is a single statement. God knows whatever He stated will be kept. Especially in Genesis, He rarely gives a one off thing, but rather there is a deeper meaning.
The Binding of Issac, when presented in context, makes sense. The groups around them were killing there kids for just about any reason. Building a building, put a live child under the first post. Need a good harvest, sacrifice a child on the altar or a superheated metal idol. A god may just need your kids as a regular offer at certain times in the year, so sacrifice them. God needed to send a strong message that reaffirms Abraham's commitment & stops child sacrifice. It worked.
Now, people far from the origin of the problem take it out of context. I hope they get the meaning from him doing this. I know they can.

Praise God for all He has done for us through the Lord Jesus Christ His only begotten Son! The relationship between God, and man was severed not because of God. It was severed because man chose to sin against God. The curse that is in the world came because of our sin. So it you want to know why there is so much evil in the world just look in a mirror. We all deserve death. First physical death our bodies dying. Then second spiritual death our souls being eternally separated from God. The thing is God created us for His good pleasure. He created us to share in a perfect relationship with Him throughout the ages of eternity in perfection. So God in His abundant loving kindness, and mercy took the punishment we deserve on Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus was born of a virgin. Perfect, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners. He died through the shedding of blood for the sins of the world. He was buried, and rose again on the third day. He is alive today, and forevermore on the right hand of the throne of God living to make intercession for us. He is coming again. If you want to be in a right relationship with God just believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ! Love is a choice so God won't force you into a relationship with Him. But He is reaching out to you constantly. Come to Him while there is still time don't wait. We our all God's creation. We are not all God's children. To be a child of the Living God you have to place all your faith in what His only begotten Son the Lord Jesus Christ did to save you. Nothing in our hands we bring only to Christ we cling. We can do nothing of ourselves to justify ourselves before God so don't even try. We just trust God. If you do this God gives you His Spirit the Holy Spirit to live with you, and in you. He makes you His temple. He is what changes your life. He gives you the victory over sin. Yield to Him. What amazing Grace that God the Father would allow His Son Jesus to die in our place. To pay the price for our sins, and then raise Him from the dead and impute His Son's righteousness to our account. Then seal us with His Holy Spirit!
    Praise God!!!!

the reason why God said that to Abraham is clear, God already promised his son would be the father of many nations. If God did not first qualify this statement with that, it would make less sense. God clearly knows that Abraham knows no matter what his son has to continue on.
God was making a covenant with all mankind. Because Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son, God would sacrifice his for mankind. The only difference is for Abraham the weapon was stopped, for Christ there was no interruption, Jesus took the blow we all deserve.
The old testament is loaded with foreshadowing and deeper meanings. The foreshadow of Abraham and God here is clearly of Christ on the CROSS ! Very simple stuff guys.

***** Depends on who is doing it, humans then no because no human is above another human being in that sense. The creator however does not fall in this category. Another words if i want to take my glass cup and shatter it, there is nothing morally wrong with this because the glass cup is mine to do whatever i want with it. If however i went over to your house and did it that would be wrong because that glass cup is not mine.
Everything that exist belongs to God, he has full right to do as he pleases with his own belongings.
That would be the logical reply.
But God does not actually sacrifice Abrahams son here does he ? Does God intend to kill him ? So this does not work here. You would have to make a moral argument about the covenant not sacrifice since God never intended for a sacrifice, God intended for obedience.

@ 16:54 His problem is that he must love his sin too much to stop it, I come to that conclusion because he's claimed to have read the gospels and researched the archaeological evidence for himself. After that, there's nothing left to try and convince of, he apparently just wants to live life the way he wants and he doesn't want to stand there in front of everyone and admit it so he lies and thus you have to keep going around in circles with the same past points.
At the end of the day, you have to change because you want to change. Cliffe can't make the boy trust in Christ, he has to want to drop his sin because he wants to drop his sin, unfortunately whatever he does in his free time or on the clock is too important to give up to him.

I think the simplest way to put it, you don’t want Jesus in this life, he simply cannot force into heaven in the afterlife. When you put it that way is it really unfair. And people always like to say burning in hell because the use of fire which is a common theme used in the Bible. Hell is torment not torture, the weeping and gnashing of teeth. The torment comes from being surrounded by only yourself and realization you didn’t have to be there. Hell is a choice, no one goes to hell by force, they go there because they choose to.

I think everybody makes a huge mistake on that verse about Jesus saying, the only way to get to the father is through him. We know that Jesus is the judge. I think everyone stands before him before going to the father or not. To assume that you know what he’s going to judge one way or another is very arrogant.

From watching essentially all of these videos, I am fairly certain the date written is the date the video is uploaded and not filmed. Cliffe talking to these people is actually from an earlier video. The theme of this video didn't necessitate including everything that was in the original. God bless.

    • @1godonlyone119

Actually, it's quite clear that there were two or more cameras, and this video is a combination
of the footage from those cameras. The moment at 19:42 is clearly "cut," yes, meaning that it switches from one camera's perspective to another camera's perspective, but it is also crystal-clear
that it is a smooth transition in the conversation, and that nothing is missing.
Your unsupported assertion that something could somehow be missing
makes you seem a little paranoid.

We know that taking a life of a child, especially one's own is a most abhorrent concept. Anyone with insight however, should be able to see that the killing of a son is the prophesy of God the Father allowing us to kill His only Son for a much greater good: our redemption.

In Abrahams day it was a normal thing to sacrifice your kids to the gods and considered an honor to do so. Obviously God would never ask that in modern times. Plus God showed he was different then the pagan gods by stopping Abraham. God was only showing Abraham that what He was going to do by giving his only Son, Jesus Christ to the Cross.

The clear answer is "if you do not accept Jesus, and repent from your sins, you will not go to heaven!" Jesus made that very clear; I don't know why Cliff can't say that. I think Cliff is trying to say is "no one knows where they go when they die because you can accept Jesus minutes before you died.
