    “Sirene the Lost” is the first Tyrant that really demonstrates the value of Elma in the main game. Elma has Shadowstrike (superior to back slash because it also staggers the enemy) so she can interrupt Sirene during her AoE body press. On top of that, Lin and Cross both have access to the “Toppler” soul voice which can be activated upon topple and grants their teammates a 400% damage increase from behind. Elma just works, and because she is required for story missions, you never have to go out of your way to level her up. This is what makes her so valuable. Cross is weak when he changes classes, but Elma is never weak. You could get by the entire game playing as Elma with very little customization.

    I like the character art in Xenoblade Chronicles X a lot better than the other three Xenoblade games. To me, it's the only character art style that looks authentically Xeno of the four Xenoblade games.

    When switching classes:
    I generally switch to a new class but then equip my old weapons so I can still use all the arts on a familiar load-out while leveling up the new class. 👍
    I train up all kinds of classes with an assault rifle/shield build.😁

    Remember you can have 4 party members in your party, an extra person can really turn the tide of battle.
    Make sure that you are changing your Soul Voices to match your Arte loadouts.
    The bottom 4 in the soul voice menu can be customized.
    So if you have a move that topples like Assault Hammer, make sure you have the Soul Voice that goes off when you iniate a topple. Synchronize with your party! Your doing great out there!

    Always glad to see more people understand the brillance of Xenoblade X. And from chapter 5 on, you have A LOT to look forward to. My advice: Always take the time to just explore. I always set the next probing point as my goal, trying to find a way there is always fun and challenging. Anyway, have fun.

    I would highly recommend watching Enel's videos about X combat, especially the one he dedicates to overdrive. Understanding how overdrive works now that you have it is key to getting the most out of the combat system. Though, this does come with the drawback that you're going to have the overdrive music override a lot of the normal combat music.

    In regards to the Mimeosomes, I think it is funny how people complain that Shulk, Rex, Noah and company can’t jump 300 feet into the air like a damn robot in X and actually think fall damage is a flaw in Xenoblade 1-3.
    It’s not just a quality of life feature in X that you can travel everywhere without vehicles, it is very much story related.

      @thenonexistinghero Před 2 měsíci +2

      Dude it's like you never played those games. They jump a million feet into the air in cutscenes all the time. It's not like they don't have the capability to do so. XC2 and XC3 having mostly XC1 movement is just trash. In terms of world gameplay design, XCX is the best by far because they didn't gimp the players to prevent them from going to places.

    • @HunchbackOfNotreJon
      @HunchbackOfNotreJon Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@thenonexistinghero They specify in X that gravity is different on Mira. Characters in 1 and 2 don't have the same ability to jump as high as in 3 and regardless of them jumping higher than normal in cutscenes they are shown to require help from falls (Mayneth when Sword Valley collapses, Poppi being used for long distances and I believe she catches characters to save them from falling on an occasion or two), and the only characters shown to be able to jump significantly higher than 1 or 2's as far as I recall are Oroboros and Moebius, but I may be mistaken. Also, when Sena and Lanz launch in Interlink in an attempt to take out N, once the Interlink is force cancelled Taion clearly has to use the mondo to catch them, so there is explicitly a limit to how far they can fall in all 3 numbered games. Mira's gravity is weaker than the others and the bodies are mechanical, and it is stated as such. This is the in-game explanation.
      X does have some continuity issues with this because of the aforementioned Blade members that fell to their death from a sorry excuse of a cliff in a quest, but the original comment is correct in stating that there is a direct lore reason given for the no fall damage.

    As someone who bought a Wii U solely for this game back in the day, I can say that emulation is what really allowed this game to glow up. It used to be in a very rough spot, but nowadays, playing this game on an emulator with plug & play mods to reenable the online-exclusive missions, upscale the resolution and enable 60fps really made this game feel like it's much closer to what it was supposed to be. Also, it's possible to patch the japanese voice acting as an option, although that does require a few extra steps.
    Also, on a side, note, the game really shines through its side quests. See that quest with the little piggies that you turned into bacon? Yeah, if you let them live, you'd have an extra quest to complete afterwards, actually. Not spoiling what it entails, though. The fact that the world just gets built little by little, sidequest after sidequest, is what makes this game's whole charm over the main story.
    One big tip for you: if you hadn't noticed, you have a "secondary cooldown" on your skills (the green bar that fills up when a skill is ready). The secondary cooldown is actually shorter than the skill's cooldown and it greatly improves the skill's effect, so being patient and making use of it can be more than worth it if you can afford it!

    Glad to see you've been enjoying your Xenoblade Chronicles Xperience so far! I look forward to what you think of the other areas in the game. And yeah, X by far has the worst audio design in the entire series. Not sure what went wrong there.
    As far as gameplay tips, I've got a few that'll help with combat.
    • You can take control of your party members. This is very useful for trying out what a class has to offer without crippling yourself on arts.
    • related to the first point, once you max out a classline, you can always use those weapons regardless of your current class. This lets you mix and match your ranged and primary.
    • Overdrive is busted, but is complicated and the game gives essentially no information on how it works. Let me know if you want a basic rundown or a college lecture.
    • Dialogue options in side quests can make a world of difference. You can save your bacon, but having it now may have saved someone else's.
    • The degree of customizability is insane. I wouldn't worry about it too much right now, just focus on equipping arts whose effects can combo off eachother and you'll do fine in most scenarios
    • Enemy level can be somewhat decieving. Enemy size also plays into it, and Tyrants have unique gimmicks that can't always be brute forced.
    • If you ever desire to run past some tough enemies, Elma has an art which makes her undectable by enemies while the aura is active.

    Hmm, the best advice I can give is to not skimp on the side content, check the mission board every so often as there are a number of sidequests that require accepting a basic mission, especially affinity missions which lead of other new characters joining. I also definitely recommend just going out and exploring the different continents for Probe locations, don't forget there are secret areas/scenic viewpoints to discover as well, and grabbing as many collectibles as you can. Though, and no spoilers here, but there's something coming after chapter 6 which will make grabbing a large number of collectibles much easier.
    Also, if you like areas with the snow aesthetic, I can't wait for you to venture North, the main story doesn't take you there for a while but there are several side missions that will and it's well worth the visit.
    With regards to classes, what I would recommend is maxing out one class tree all the way to the end, the you can take the weapons and arts from that class and use them in other classes. This is great for fighting stronger enemies while leveling up a weaker class. However, I would caveat that with fact that each class has a unique playstyle, and their unique weapons and arts play into that. Once you've maxed out a couple of class chains you can start mixing and matching weapons from various classes, that's where the NPC characters are interesting, because they can give an idea for builds which mix weapons from different classes together and you can get a feel for their playstyle and if it's something you want to work towards.
    You've probably done a bit of experimenting already, but here's a quick rundown of the basic class chains: The Commando/Winged Viper/Full Metal Jaguar class Chain are all about that DPS and positional bonuses and all that, the D&D rogue archetype basically. The Enforcer/Psychorupter/Mastermind chain is all about those Buffs, De-buffs and general battlefield control stuff, kind of like a wizard or sorcerer. Finally, the Striker/Samurai Gunner/Duelist is a balance between good offensive arts and defensive abilities, like a D&D fighter.
    You can also play as other NPC party members, if you go to the party member select menu then arrange the party order so whoever you want to play as is in the topmost slot. You can do a lot of neat things with this, like manually controlling Elma so you can use her Shadow Sneak art to get past high level enemies without them bothering you for example. But it's mostly about experimenting with the other kinds of playstyles.
    Also, now that you've completed chapter 5 I highly, */highley/* recommend you watch a tutorial about how to use Overdrive, such as the one done by CZcamsr Enel (or read the section in the digital manual that comes with the game). It is a very complicated system which can allow you to punch above your weight class, if done right. You'll probably also want to keep it going so you can listen to Wir Fliegen for more than a few seconds. There's even an entire class chain which plays into the idea of keeping Overdrive active, though the Blast Fencer/Galactic Knight are a fun DPS class chain to play as regardless of Overdrive or not.
    Finally, the last gameplay tip I want to mention is that Elements, specifically elemental weakness and resistance on your armor, can be very important. Most of the armors in the game for example have good resistance against one or more elements on top of their base defense value, but have a weakness to another element, usually gravity. Of course, light armor tends to have better gravity resist, but also offers less defense in other ways. While I would plug the ingame Enemy Index for researching what elemental weakness and resistances each enemy type has, it's less time consuming to just go look up a specific monster on the wiki if you're having trouble.
    Hope this helps, sorry for the wall of text!

    @berserkchip Před měsícem

    I'm currently in the middle of my 3rd playthrough of this game, and the thing about X is that you can end up missing a LOT of content if you're not exploring every little thing; the environment, the dialogue, the quests, even the menus and the manual
    I'm sure you've been told a few of these tips already, but Full Metal Jaguar is a fantastic starting class to aim for because it gives you all of the arts/skills of the Double Guns, far and away the best and most fun weapon. The Sky High Art that you get from completing Phog's mission is a ton of fun to mess with in combination with Overdrive, and Ghost Walker is a God Send for dealing with Tyrants and high-level enemies in early and mid game. The Knife class is also really good, with Smooth Recovery, an art I believe you already got by doing Irina's mission, is extremely cheap.
    But yeah, as long as you have Double Guns equipped, and set up your arts so that you have a few green and yellow/orange/purple arts, you can pop Overdrive during battle, alternate between Buff Arts (Green) Attack Arts (Orange/Yellow/Purple) back to back, it extends your Overdrive counter to basically infinite. Combining this with Sky High, the Art I mentioned earlier, your character will literally continue to hover in mid air so long as you're constantly performing Arts, thus turning Xenoblade Chronicles X into a Character Action Game similar to, and I kid you not, Devil May Cry.
    This is just ONE way you COULD choose to play the game. That is how deep, varied, and customizable XCX's combat is. You can beat the entire game without even using Overdrive a single time. (though, if you master Overdrive and use it a lot, it makes leveling a lot faster, at the cost of breaking the main story's difficulty)
    Sorry, I rambled a lot, I'm ADHD brained and I love this game a lot. I hope you enjoy your playthrough, regardless of what shape it takes, because everyone I've spoken to who has played this game ends up playing it differently.

      Got delayed significantly due to life stuff, but I've been playing/recording/writing in my spare time. The 2nd part is intended to be different to the 1st part. Sorry for the delay on that, was not intended. :(
