  • The Nord Star 31+ is the archetypal Finnish commuter boat with a twist. In this dark grey colour with a contrasting light interior, this 30ft wheelhouse cruiser feels like no Nord Star we’ve been on before. And, when it’s up against rivals Targa and Sargo, it pays to stand out from the crowd.
You can see what the Nord Star 31+ is like on board and how it feels to drive in this in-depth walkthrough tour and review by Jack Haines, who tested the boat in the Finnish archipelago.
The walkaround deck layout features L-shaped cockpit seating and wide, deep side decks that lead to a clean, practical foredeck. Inside, the guest cabin is cleverly accessed by lifting up the aft seat squab at the dinette to reveal a cabin that’s short on headroom but big on space, with both a single and double berth.
The galley is a good size and runs down the starboard side, opposite an L-shaped dinette with an adjustable table at its centre and a two-way seat forward that flips between a dining position and a twin navigator seat. Forward you find the owner’s cabin and the boat’s only bathroom, a wet room on the starboard side.
Engine options are numerous in both single and twin diesel arrangements with options from Mercury and Volvo Penta. The most powerful version will crack 45 knots!

Such great production quality on these reviews - very well done!
I’d personally go with a Targa as they hold their value better than Sargos and Nord Stars, and would go with one of Targa’s outboard models as they have even more storage space in the rear and are quieter.
The only thing with all boats of this size people should be aware of is that when you own and live in these boats (incl DCs) for a weekend or two is issues with ventilation; if the owner’s cabin only has one ventilation port instead of two for good cross ventilation, I would cross then 31+ from my list just because of this reason. I hope that Nord Star, Sargo and Targa would pay more attention to this, as all of the ~30ft models fall short on this.
Thanks and keep up the good work!

2.5 liters/Nm does make a dent in the wallet. For me, its either having a summer house or this type of boat. Or, summer house + a smaller boat. I dont see that value of this considering the cost of running it. Either go big and only have boat. Running Cost is a factor to consider for sure for this genre of boats around 30ft.

I really don't like that seat position... its flush against the galley, there isn't really room to stand and drive, isn't room for a better seat and isn't a way to "recline" and put your feet forward while driving. you are just cramed into that place.
the induction cook top that close to the seat... just feels like you are going to "cook" the seat with steam and maybe even splattered oils.
its a nice design for a 2 cabin 1 head layout but... that whole cockpit and galley lay out is a breaker for me.

Lead bottom like a sail boat so you can sail it 2 and have the option to drive it at speed. 15 knots petrol is getting very expensive I have the design in my head and you can travel around the world for minimum cost to your budget or use it as a business take fisherman out and not costing you a lot of money. Green fishing is the name of the business. Sorry for any writing errors but I’m a Cook Islander and English is my second language but common sense is what I’m blessed with. From a Cook Islander
