    The older I get, the more this song tears me up. And I bought this "Dark Side of the Moon" album in 1973. To me, it's their best album.

    You should watch the entire PULSE concert sometime!! Even if you do it on your own but we would love to see your reaction to it of course!! There are no misses in this show at all. Pink Floyd is just on a different level 🎸🔥🎼 I would suggest “Sorrow” as your next song from this show.

    Pink Floyd is not a band, Pink Floyd is an experience!! I love Dark Side Of The Moon but The Wall is the ultimate for me. I bought it when it came out and now, as a 59 year old grandmother, it's the first thing on my playlist. The entire album, start to finish the way it needs to be heard is pure excellence.

    According to Wikipedia the initial investment was 4 million USD, and running cost to stage the show in 68 cities was 25 million USD. In total 5.5 million people attended the shows, averaging 45.000 per night. (They played several concerts at multiple venues, e.g. three in Rotterdam, Oakland and Montreal, 14 in London). They had three stages (55 m wide, 40m high) leapfrogging each other. Used 53 articulated trucks to move the 700 tons of steel for the stage. At the time it was the highest grossing rock music tour in history.
    The show also featured airships, and if allowed by local regulations airplanes flying over the stadium just before the start.
    I saw them several times in 1994, 1988 and 1989. Anything after those shows has been, well, overshadowed by it.

    Financing for this came in part from the sale of a very rare race car. Don’t know if a production like that could be pulled off/financed today. But at least we had Pulse and it was glorious.

    The production scale on this live performance is class triple AAA all the way. In 95 when PULSE was released, David, Nick and Rick had already been playing together for over 40 years! That in itself accounts for much of the magnificence in their live shows. Professional musicians with countless hours of practice and performances together. They brought all this with them when they walked on stage. The quality and confidence always there. The result was 100% perfection in what they accomplished.

    There is no comparing "Pulse" to ANY other tour in history...some have been more successful monetarily, but nothing comes close to the spectacle and overall emotional experience they provided. In order to be as close as possible to the complexity of their studio work, they brought additional "A" class musicians along to replicate the overdubs (instead of using recordings) - added were: guitars - Tim Renwick, percussion - Gary Wallis, and keyboards - John Carin. The background vocalists: Durga McBroom, Sam Brown, and Claudia Fontaine (RIP). Roger Waters' replacement on bass - Guy Pratt - is phenomenal. My recommendations for follow-up Pulse tracks:

    If you want more of the back up singers then you Must react to Pink Floyd - The Great Gig In The Sky - from the Pulse Concert.

  • @Ed9870
    @Ed9870 Před rokem +2

    You really can't go wrong with these Pulse performances. My only suggestion is that when it comes to Great Gig in the Sky, find the 1987 version from the Palace at Versailles (link below) .
    It was a finer group of background singers: Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Kathleen Taylor. They killed it. Outdoors under the fireworks.

    Do ECHOES (both parts, 1 & 2), from Pink Floyd Live In Pompeii. They put on a concert for nobody but the cameras, in the ancient ruins of a giant Greek amphitheater.
    Filmed around the recording of the Dark Side Of The Moon album, on the cusp of superstardom - It is tremendous!

    I feel like this version is a little rushed for my taste, but I love the song and other Pulse concert videos. Run Like Hell is a little less exciting imo because the explosions are not a worthy substitute for the drums or whatever it is that gives it bounce and excitement.
