I’m originally from Weslaco but I’ve lived in Ohio for over 20 years. I’m so excited I found your channel
I miss the valley, my family and my culture and yes
I miss the food!! Thanks for sharing. God bless you
I made this for my aunt & uncle, visiting from the valley & my uncle said best carne guisada he ever ate gave u props. The only thing i changed was I used chuck roast instead.
Now that’s real south Texas carne guisada.. 👌👌👌
I agree 👍
I was searching for a recipe and you popped up on my feed. You're such a lovely lady and I could tell you cook with your heart. Cannot wait to try this because I actually trust you and believe you. So many cook on here just to make a video and you can tell they have never made the recipe or just making a viral version and they have no clue. I like honest real cooking. So many recipes are so complicated and you broke it down and made it so easy. Just like the blue ribbon place correcting your recipe because someone said it wasn't enough liquid. They don't follow the recipe, do their own thing and then complain a recipe doesn't turn out. Thank you so much!
Best carne guisda recipe ever!
My mom passed away from cancer and I never got to pick her brains and get her recipies down. I saw your recipe online and saw that you had a CZcams channel now so I came to subscribe.
Thanks for sharing the knowledge. I have lived in Sugar Land for almost a decade now but I'm from Harlingen and I love supporting my people from down south .
God Bless!
Mrs.Mariposa, I found your original three videos of Carne Guisada, Rice, and Tortillas probably 2014 to 2015.
I made it to your recipe, and it was the best damn Carne Guisada! I have made this recipe 20 or 30 times now and my family and friends just love.
Hello, I'm from the Rio Grande Valley and have been looking for a Carne Guisada recipe from South Texas and found yours! I'm so happy--I know it's going to be delish and plan to make it now! I thank the Lord you are healthy and cancer free!

OMG I was born in San Juan Tx ❤ I live in DC (we're getting a huge snow storm in a few hours) so I am making this today❤
@@maddyhappy4712 you are going to love it! Just follow the recipe. I chop the meat into small chunks, and it comes out sooner. It's delicious!

I’m born and raised in California, grew up with a completely different style and flavor in Mexican food. Fell in love with a born and raised Texan, so now looking for these traditional Tex Mex recipes...going to surprise the hubby with this dish😊 so excited about making it.
Thank you for sharing.
BTW, I really like your 3 part video, very helpful
I hope you like it! Please let me know how it goes. I also just posted a Q&A podcast where I answer some viewer questions.
I made this tonight and it was amazing. I was a little worried about not using any liquids but I trusted the process and it turned out perfect. I used cornstarch to thicken it and it was perfect. Thank you for sharing!
I found your original three videos of Carne Guisada, Rice, and Tortillas probably 2014 to 2015.
I made it to your recipe and it was the best damn Carne Guisada, Rice, and Tortillas I made.
I also made frsh chunky guacamole and pic de gallo as well and it was a killer meal.
I recently searched high and low and saw other videos, but when I ran across your original videos again, I was super happy.
Love your recipes.

I've been looking at ppl's videos making carne guisada and yours is the BEST! I live in Washington DC but I'm Mexican (from San Antonio) I'm making this today and some homemade flour tortillas, we're about to get a big ass snow storm😫😫😫
Omg. I found your video years ago and I have made my carne guisada like this every since. Thank you so much. ❤️❤️
I can't wait to make this! I miss when we were stationed in Corpus and its so versatile, a taco shop made breakfast super rolls put of it, a restaurant would put on nachos for me or again it can go with rice....love this dish!!!
Made this recipe today. Smells great. Tastes even better. Thanks for the recipe
Thank you for sharing I love your recipe.
I’m making this for the 2nd time and my family loves it! Thank you so much for sharing! This will now be my recipe to teach to my children. We are also in south Texas but my mom never showed me lol Thank you it’s delicious
I watched the longer video of this a few days ago, and bought what I needed to make this. I would love to put it all together in my slow cooker, do you think, that would work? Say 6-8 hours on low?? I also don’t think I have a pot, with a thick enough bottom, to prevent burning.
I did end up using my crockpot to make this. It’s almost done, just added the flour mixture, but of course had to taste, as long as the lid was off, already. It’s fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing.
I cut up my chuck roast, pepper, tomato, onion, garlic, added the salt, pepper, & cumin. Tossed a bit, with a wooden spoon. Set crockpot on high, and went about my day. Stirred it about an hour later. Now it’s been 2hr 25 min, and I pulled out a spoonful to taste, yum. Turned down to low, and added the roux, to thicken.
Looking forward to this meal.
Sounds awesome! Thank you for sharing!!
Great recipe. Thank you for sharing.
I have used this recipe for years but decided to try with venison instead of beef and it’s excellent. I highly recommend it if you have a freezer full of venison and trying to think of ways to use it.
Thanks for the tip!
Fantastic! I grew up in South Texas, TexMex carne guisada a long time favorite of mine. Mine is cooking as I write this!
Making this again, today. Thank you for sharing you recipe.

Was looking for your old video. So glad you're back. Been making your recipe for a couple of years. It's great.
I can't wait to try this! I'm from San Antonio but now live in the Dallas area and it just isn't the same up here!
You remind me of my abuela. Gonna try this recipe
So I've seen other videos and it doesn't look right to me, BUT THIS!!! This is the one I will try lol I always liked the lighter colored guisada out here in SA
It's the same gravy for enchiladas I'm assuming
Thanks for sharing!
Making it right now! Thank you 😊 💓
Made it twice now! Its official we are merging into traditional Mexicans. We live in Pennsylvania!
Use beer to replace water. It make the Guisada richer, and More Favor Beer i used is BUDWIESER I also used beer to replace water in Stews, Gumbos and things YUM
That sounds good! 👌
@@MariposasKitchen 1 can in most cases, 2 cans in a large gumbo, stews ect. You got to try it 👌 YUM. You can barely taste the beer.
Hey girl .. I ran across your page today .. I'm from McAllen n have family all over the valley ... I'm in Illinois since 1972.. be back to the RGV hopefully this yr.. just retired
Hey Butterfly! Looks delicious!
I was watching your older carne guisada video and you said it was 1/2 cup of water and 1 heaping tablespoon of flour for the rue. In this video it’s 3 tablespoons to 1/2 cup of water? I’m making your dish for Father’s Day and I just know my kids are going to love it! Thank you for sharing your gifts with us. 🥰
The water flour ratio can vary. You may need to add more. And yes 3 tbspns to half a cup. If you still see an oily layer add a little more rue.
And thank you for watching!!! I know he'll enjoy it!
I've made several Utubers carne guisada this year. It's my favorite. None have tasted like I'm used to eating in Texas. Still eating a version right now. Next, I'll be trying yours. I have the Love sign as well
Let me know how it goes.
@@MariposasKitchen It was really good 👍
New subscriber...I am in love with this recipe...my boys loved it too...thank u...wish u had more videos...
Check out my website mariposaskitchen.com
I'm in the Houston area, going to try this. Thanks
Let me know how it goes
found you on Justapinch..... this was FUEGOCITO!!!! i would add that i personally did season the carne with some personal favorites and let it sit for 30 mins to set the flavor. Then i followed everything to the T! MUY DELICIOSO!!!!
Definitely has a lot of room for you to modify to your liking. Again, amazing job
My son will be doing this for me today.
You added a flour slurry, 2 part flour and 1 part liquid , then add to the beef. A roux is 1 tablespoon of flour mix with 1 tablespoon fat and whisk until golen brown then liquid into the roux and simmer until mixture thickens.
I did not know you were in San Juan I am in McAllen right now about to make carne guisada
Mrs.Mariposa I tried your recipe and have passed it on to friends and family and it is definitely the best I’ve ever made and a total crowd pleaser. This is what I will be making for my Dads Birthday tomorrow! We will celebrate, Trick or treat eat some delicious Carne Asada and I’m sure your name and recipe will be passed on again🥰 Sending muchlove from Cypress,Tx
Greetings fellow South Texan Nice recipe. Making this as I am posting this lol
I am from Mercedes Texas
I’m married to a lovely lady from Mexico but she does not cook. I do...so I’ll try this. That rue at the end of the cooking phase got me wondering if the flour flavor will be noticeable ? I will season the cubed meat and sprinkle flour to sear and cook the flour out. Remove beef and add the onions to pick up the fond. I think I can follow the rest of the recipe after that. My in-laws will probably tell me to stick to Asian cooking. 😂. However my chile Colorado and chilequile dishes were spot on.
Carne guisada is not from Mexico it's a Texas dish
I hope she liked it! Thanks for the feed back.
Im from San Juan as well ….currently Making carne guisada using your recipe 😉
How did it go?
@@MariposasKitchen oh my goodness everyone loved it 🥰 Now my mom wants me to make it again this weekend 😂

Do you have to use manteca.?

If you have a good flour tortilla recipe I'd love to see a how to beginning to end. Ty!

I usually do only half this recipe now. But instruction are the same. 3 cups of flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 1/2 tsp salt. About 2 -3 cups hot water. Let me know if I can help. Will probably remake video to include this shorter recipe. Thanks for watching!

Can you use pork for this recipe?
Yes! Add a table spoon of red chilli powder.
If I wanted to add potatoes when should I add then?
About an hour before its done cooking.
Thanks
I gave you a like, but putting the meat in the pot straight from the pack was a no no for me. I have seen your videos before and know that you are a great cook. 😍
I am trying this recipe tomorrow. I am going to use backstrap. We're very excited. But aside from the recipe, I was wondering why you don't take advantage of the affiliate marketing opportunities that you have with different kitchen appliances??? ( garlic chopper) Jw. No offence at all.
How did it go? I've just started down the affiliate road with Amazon. I've also got a website going too. mariposaskitchen.com
@@MariposasKitchen It turned out amazing!!! I followed the exact same recipe, but I used backstrap, and a instapot. That is wonderful! I hope nothing but success and happiness to you and your family. If anybody asks about using deer meat, tell them it is absolutely doable. You just need to use a small bit of oil when you start the meat. P.S Your website looks legit!
@@johnboy9230 I'm going to try this in an Instapot tomorrow also!! How much time did you use??
@@rogerg0834 I got it pressured up for about 45 mins, then it was on slow cook for another hr after that, but only because we were waiting for guests. Fell apart in my mouth lol
