Hi my name is Danielle, welcome to my True Crime and Makeup series! I’ve been interested in true crime for the longest time now, what started with me watching true crime on TV with my Nan from a young age eventually turned into studying for a degree in Law & Criminology.
When I first watched Bailey Sarian’s Mystery Makeup Monday series I was completely hooked, I loved how she had combined two of the things I’m most passionate about and delivered it so well. She totally inspired me to take the leap and do the same thing on my channel, so all credit for the idea goes 100% to her.
I’m from the UK and will be covering cases from both the UK and internationally, let me know if there are any cases that you’d like to see from me! More cases will be coming soon so please subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

This is one of the saddest things ever - Alyssa gives her daughter up hoping she would have a better life away from her abusive father...but eventually, he still ended up abusing her, destroying her life, and ultimately taking her life from her. It didn't matter that her mother tried to give her a better start to her life, or that she was raised by loving adoptive parents, this monster of a man's reach was too strong. With how Steven's mum referred to Katie as "his wife" - she hesitated. I have a feeling she just didn't want to have to explain the entire situation of that before getting to the actual point of "my son has murdered his baby, his baby mama, along with her father". Technically she was his wife; albeit an abomination... but that aspect was kind of less important in that very moment. People are also very prideful. She already had to tell them her son is a killer, so I'm sure there was a large level of embarrassment and shame with that alone.

  • @gollygod

So the theory about potential incestuous relationships is this:
Its been studied that children who get separated at birth from their sibling (and sometimes parent) will live their lives not knowing about the one they were separated from. Later in life they somehow reconnect and feel a very strong bond to one another, that they’re very similar and have a lot in common and tend to find more comfort in one another then other people. So they will sometimes end up forming a romantic relationship with each other, _not knowing_ that they are blood related, and they sometimes will choose to stay together, but USUALLY make a promise to not have any biological children. The theory relies _heavily_ on the fact that the siblings/parent-child are unaware that they are related in anyway prior to the relationship forming. Basically, it is a real theory that has been studied and it leaves a genuine grey area of morality (again, they usually promise to not have any children, so the relationship is kept purely just with them being romantic/sexual and not having children which is one of the biggest reasons incest is so illegal and morally wrong). This case, however, they _knew_ they were related, Katie sought them out because she wanted to reconnect with her _parents_ so this theory doesnt apply to them, and their relationship was disgusting and wrong and just, so, so gross

Or... There might be a mix: he liked her cause she looked like her mom when he dated her at 15, she had serious daddy issues. Both haven't seen each other before, so meeting as adults and being each others "types" the chemistry was overwhelming. It was clear that Steven was a "Satan" so incest? Yeah, whatever. But for the Katie to develop such strong feelings and ignore all else, even law, is insane. It feels like something rare but very strong must've played a biological role in this. It's creepy but fascinating at the same time.

Women always get blamed, especially women who get pregnant outside of marriage or while underage. Because women are forced by nature to carry the baby, I believe that seeing an obviously pregnant woman tends to produce uncomfortable feelings in such bigoted people. Even the court system in this case was bigoted against the woman in this case, and she was literally a teenager who had been a victim of incest by her own father. There was still less sympathy for the victim in this case during her lifetime - as Danielle pointed out, the law actually held Katie in custody longer than Stephen. Its filthy disgusting that nobody - not even the courts - were willing to protect her from him. Its clear to me that Stephen really didn't view Katie as a separate person from him, but only alive for him to use how he saw fit, and when she wanted to leave him he ended her life. Even his child Bennett only existed to him because of Katie, it seems, and when he decided to do away with her Bennett wasn't allowed to live.

In the end he got therapy and I got destroyed, both within family and many years after the fact. Society could not rebuke him but could blame and destroy me as a Iolita, even my brothers condemned me. At less than 14yrs old my mother put me on a bus heading for LosAngeles Ca and wished me luck.

Yeah, I graduated w/double major, one was a BS is Psychology, way back in the dark ages where computers didn't exist. So, this is just my opinion but more and more psychologists are reaching the same conclusion, to put it in laymen terms, "FREUD WAS BAD SHIT CRAZY".That doesn't mean that he didn't make huge strides in the field of psychology, but he's not the great shrink some people make him out to be.
For example, based on what we know about Freud, he probably wouldn't have had that big a problem with the incest. BUT, he would have, in fact, blamed it ALL on Alyssa for putting her and Steven's daughter up for adoption, depriving him of all the fatherly events he missed with his first child. Freud probably would have said that their sexual attraction to one another was a "symptom" due to a result of a delayed "Oedipus Complex" and again would have blamed Alyssa. Freud had serious "Mummy issues" and it's been rumored that he and his daughter, Anna, had a similar relationship as these two. He would have completely ignored the abuse and even the murders. They can say this guy suffered from several mental health issues such as depression and separation anxiety. So what? We all get through the same thing without taking a life or hurting his daughter/wife when she was an infant and killing his own son/grandson. He's a murderer and should be treated accordingly.

This is my second time watching this video, and I kinda wanna add my two cents. I don't agree that Katie shouldn't be charged as heavily as Stephen. I honestly believe they should be tried the same. Both parties are legal adults, both knew what they were doing was wrong. Quite honestly, I knew insest was wrong from the time I was about 10. Yes, Stephen was a manipulator, but Katie was told the hard facts that he used to abuse her and she still chose to go back to him, so she is also 50% to blame here. He especially got violent when he drank, and she knew this and would buy him cases of beer in secret. She got him out of every situation he got into (DUIs, crashing cars, punching holes in walls, even once trying to kill himself because he got caught drinking by his father-who was extremely opposed to alcohol so he would have kicked him out) and never lectured him or made him face any consequences. I remember running to her for help one night when my ex came home at 5am drunk out of his mind, after having stayed up all night waiting for him (he wasn’t answering texts or phone calls) he got in bed and I nudged him and said “where have you been” and he sat up and choked me and told me to shut up. He had a look in his eyes that scared me to my core, so I got up and ran to his mothers room and through tears explained it to her, she looked me dead in the eyes and said “no my son isn’t like that, you must have done something to get him upset”

I watched a docu about a girl that was groomed and the mom said she had to act supportive of her daughter living with the man so when the daughter was ready she could call her up and have a place to go. If your to against it, it will push her away and that might be the end . As the mom had tried this before and it didn’t work

Freud was kinda pervy tbh. I remember reading about him in my psych classes and all of his theories were sexual. He thought everything humans did was related to sex, some of it sounding pretty freakin creepy.

    • @samiam2088

Freud also took a lot of cocaine throughout his career and heard a lot stories about young, upper class girls of Austrian society being abused by their rich and powerful fathers. However, he didn’t believe these girls were being abused rather he believed these girls were having sexual fantasies. Those admissions of abuse are the basis of penis envy and the Electra complex.

The mom said they “grew up” and thought they could better handle having kids. Abusing children is not something you grow out of! If he beat your children in his 20s, he’s gonna beat your children in his 30s. The mom was clearly naive and also appeared to be a victim of this man herself.

When you have a child you have to do everything in your power to give them a better life. If you knew he was abusive but you don’t want to leave then simply don’t bring my children into this world it’s selfish. There are resources to help prevent this from continuing to happen. Children are not toys to have so you won’t be alone, you shouldn’t have them if you can’t provide a safe and stable environment for them.

You're assuming Alyssa infoed the adoption agency of the abuse, which is doubtful. Then you're assuming the adoption agency told her parents. THEN you're assuming it was an open adoption & they had access to his information, in order to get a restraining order. Then you're forgetting that a restraining order is only good for a year (in most, if not all states) & that if he had never tried to contact her, the judge would likely not have renewed every year for 18 years. & then of course, she certainly could have chosen to have it lifted herself when she turned 18.
You are making emotional judgments based on your lack of knowledge on the subject & of the facts
