The text is sharper compared to Kindle Scribe, due to the removal of the front light layer. That is awesome.
In China, two e-readers with the front light panel removed were released in April this year by Boox and iReader.
Compared to the previous version with a front light panel, the background color has become whiter and brighter, the letters have become clearer and darker, and the distance between the pen and the screen has become shorter, making the writing experience better.
And Go 10.3 is a white version of the Note X3 Pro (black color) released by boox in China, with the front light panel removed. Go 10.3 is 0.9mm thinner and weighs 45g less.
In fact, removing the glowlight makes a lot of sense for those who want good writing experience. There's a great deal of paralax on Air 3C and others Airs that have glowlight. Moreover, it's obviously (from how it looks) that Boox wanted this device to be a Remarkable competitor, so of course they removed the glowlight to match the writing experience.
I think the implementation of e-Ink Carta 1300 at 300DPI would have made this device out a BEST BUY. 😢
The only reviewer who is negative on this device. 😂 Many people don't want a front light because it adds distance between the glass and ink layer. Boox has devices with front lights, so if that's what you want, then a note air 3 would be your choice. They're going for the remarkable crowd and taking advantage that remarkable had not updated their hardware in 4 years. And no need for an eraser. You can scratch out any mistakes and they'll erase. Much quicker than flipping a pen around. I got the device yesterday and love it. The screen is awesome, the device is speedy, and it does everything it says if does. I also have a scribe and a note air 3c.
I agree. I love my Boox Tab Ultra Pro C. i can totally see the appeal of the Boox Go, it does look wonderfully light. I think I'd miss the colour.
@@gregorydaines I thought I might as well, but I look at my note air 3c and my go as two different things.
Agree, I use my Nova Air 1 mostly as an digital notebook and I do wish to get rid of the front light. Rarely I use the Android part of the tablet cuz I can just do it on my phone or laptop but I do use it from time to time to run apps that refuses to run on my degoogled phone... or if im feeling old-school, an SSH terminal. Looking forward to get a Supernote as my next eink notebook.
Agreed. I never use the front light on my Note Air 3. My partner wants it, so I may have to upgrade to the Go.
compared to scribe, I want to know hows the feels in writing both device, I have tested Kindle Scribe oh boy somehow its satisfying but I returned it so I could have more funds to buy this once it available to amazon next week
Not having a back light is actually one of the reasons I bought it. I want a close to paper experience when writing and reading so this device caught my eye immediately, so I think not having a back light is a feature not a bug for its intended audience. Appreciate the detailed review!
does location really work with that one? and how the hotspot I working if we don't have any SIM card?
I dont think I mind the missing glow light. Forces a more similar work environment as a pen and paper, which this is trying to emulate. Great review video
Yeah for sure, but the great majority of people need / want glow lights, which is why nearly 95% of devices in the market have front light to some degree
I mean, the great majority if people that uses tablet need the glowlight, but for note taking is perfectly fine
@@waltermiller5977do you need a glow light to read a book? I mean a paperback?
@@goodereader then this is not the device for them. That would be the note air 3. And tell this to all the remarkable and supernote owners. They love not having a front light. For reading in bed, a front light is necessary, but that is not the primary use for this device. It's too big to comfortably read in bed. It's primary use case is for taking notes and 99% of people don't take notes in the dark.
@@ScottBenedictI'm part of that 1%, lol. I spend a decent amount of time reading technical papers and I like being able to mark them up as I go. I also sometimes do it at night in bed and really appreciate illumination.
Does it have an undo gesture like the Remarkable does?
Why didn’t they use the 1300 screen 😢
What's the 1300 screen?
@@jonahhekmatyar it’s the newest screen from E-ink. It has better blacks and it’s more responsive
@@jonahhekmatyar E-Carta 1300 screen. It is an upgrade of the 1200 screen. Both have 300 ppi, but some claim that the 1300 images are clearer than the 1200.
I like seeing peter talking rather than just hearing a voiceover
0:50 It's 4.6" just a tad thinner than rM2
The spec package that they supplied us with when they sent us the sample said 4.4 mm
It looks like it has since changed on the website specifications
This device has nothing feature wise but a great screen. That's why we love it 😊
Welcome to help the device I liked a lot because of his weight and high and high stay, but because there is no lighting, I think I think a little in Naut Air 3 .. and with this I still love GO10.3 more you think?
Seems good for textbook study
Upgraded from poke 4 lite to NoteAir 3C....im very happy
Great to have a review that highlights things that might be issues for some.
For me, the Go ticks all my boxes but I take no offence if people prefer devices that have features it lacks.
I’m ready to change my mind again when a Note Air 3 comes out with 300ppi!
Yes, people say that that's not the point of the go, that is correct, but the issue here is on excess put forward a narrative that more specs and more features are better
And they have almost never strayed away from that mentality. So to have something completely out of left field and entirely out of character , warrants pointing out
@@goodereader I’m surprised how oriole put forward negative responses when each review is a distant perspective and a useful datapoint.
I guess you need a thicker skin as a reviewer than I have, but I appreciate your output.
Thanks for this review. The lack of a front light does give me pause. I'm going to wait until more reviews come in, especially from those who may use art apps on the device.
Thanks. Always appreciate your honesty, especially since you sell them. Commendable. No Sd card is big. I would trade some mm
I completely agree with the lack of front light. I don't need the million features of fingerprint and so on. But I do need to see the screen 😂
I had hoped it would hit a lower price point, but maybe that was more hope than expectation.
@@EmanueleC_BR the note air 3 is the version with the front light
He is right about the lacking of carta 1300 and not waterproof is a big mis.
@@svennikolajsen6624 paper isn't waterproof either. 😀
@@ScottBenedictstill could have been a significant feature to set it above the competition. RM2 has a very restricted OS and poor hardware but water proof e-readers are starting to come out.
@@jonahhekmatyar but this isn't an ereader, it's an enote and they may have had limitations given the thickness they were going for. I have the device and it's everything they say it is. It's sleek, very thin - I don't think it could haven't gotten any thinner as it's as thin as the USB port, and the ink layer is right next to the front glass. They were aiming for the remarkable crowd and I think they hit that target. I didn't know if any device in the use that has the carta 1300 screen. Amazon has the exclusive on 300 dpi 10.3 screens for the past year and that's why the NA3 was only 227 dpi. There may be restrictions on the carta 1300 screen that we're not aware of. This is only the second 300 dpi 10.3 screen avail in the US, the first being the Scribe. I think a lot of people are trying to make this enote more than it was designed to be. Boox has the top end of the enote market in North America but they had a segment of the market that none of their current devices addressed, do they created the Go 10.3 to address that market and I believe they succeeded.
'The cons keep piling up with this...'
Other issue: can anyone recommend a music app for this, that doesn't suck?
Few people know that Boox has a black version of this but equipped with a front light, called Note X3 Pro, it is only available in China. I still prefer no front light because in this way the text is noticeably sharper, and the device is incredibly thin, thus becoming the thinnest tablet in the world. I'm surprised that they are very low-key about it, not like reMarkable.
For sure. We mentioned it in the video
Onyx won't let us review it ':(
Brother, you need to do a Supernote Nomad review. Best writing experience in the business
We have reviewed super notes many times in the past, and they don't hold a candle to Fujitsu
Thank you
@@goodereader Have you tried Feel Write 2? It's pretty incredible with those ceramic nibs!
7:56 cool~
Cannot fully agree with the reviewer. Go is not trying to be the best of both worlds, it is a very clearly positioned device, a new category for Onyx. Hance the new subbrand. I was very pissed about the lights at first, but then I got it. Onyx is building what a remarkable 2 should have been: an open platform, paper notes first device. They removed the lights not to shave off the price, but by design. They wanted it to be super thin and super close to paper. Remarkable is closer to writing on sand paper, I was actually told in a classroom my "scratching" was too loud. So considering Onyx' experience and platform maturity, they nearly nailed it. I am surprised about a meh-pen though. I believe you can use Lamy or other 3rd party pens, but still weird. I am excited to get my Go asap :)
They have a feature packed highest possible level of Android Google Play enabled tablet with the foresight to put multiple speed modes, and app management for each respective speed mode
They have stereo speakers, anti-flicker toggles for videos, and dual microphones
But they also have promoted this product as a simplistic device
So no, we are correct, they have launched this device with the intention of getting the best of both worlds
If not, then there is no reason to have Google play, play books, speed modes, video refinement features, etc, there would be no need for those
@@goodereaderI understand, but Google play full support and their own refresh rates are their differentiators as a Boox brand. Not having that in their new products would confuse the customers about the brand. And having that, with the Go line they want to make clean, more simple product. Keeping their differentiators. And clearly taking on rmkbl here :)
I am sure there will be more sophisticated laptop-like devices soon, under the Tab brand.
Manga is 8 inches usually not 7, there are big manga versions that are up to 10 too.
There are also small manga at bookstore and convenience stores that are 7 in and below
But the Go 10.3 has beautiful white color and design. 😂
E-Ink works much better without lights. Guess I am forced to buy an inexpensive device, lol.
Bro learn the market, many of us, including reMarkable 2 users, will NEVER buy a e-ink with a light.
@@JoeBrigAI agree. And there are options if you want the front light. Boox already has it with the note air 3. So knocking the Go 10.3 for not having one when they offer a similar device with a front light is not fair. Boox was going for a different demographic, not trying to dumb down it's product line. It's squarely aiming at the remarkable market as remarkable had not released a hardware update in 4 years and it's leaving that market wide open.
I never had an e-reader before and I am wondering if you can still read on an e-reader without a front light in the evening with some lights on in the room. I hope you can tell me if that works.
@@rickderks2968 absolutely. An ereader without a front light is just like a book. You'll need an outside source for reading.
Wow, it sure didn't take very long
It looks you didn't catch the Idea about Boox Go.
Nope, not at all. Thanks for stopping by
I agree. They're targeting a specific market. Should've at least mentioned it.
No light is so silly.
That's thinner than the new iPad Pro's.
It might look thin…. But then the cover is almost as thick as the unit….
Concerned about storage w/o sd slot
If it had an LED strip, I wouldn't even have considered buying it...
That's the model without any LEDs and with a flat screen. Get the air for LEDs
You need to work on your concision. You are good at saying a whole lot of nothing to drag out a video. On 2x, you are still to slow.
To whom are you addressing? Our Script writers? The creative director? Or Peter himself?
Also, it's how CZcams works.
@@goodereader Probably to the script writers. The words-said to information-conveyed ratio is poor. And the "That's how YT works point" is fair, but it just depends what you're aimng to do with the channel. Obviously *actualy quality* and *what games the algorithm best* can diverge and it's up to you as a CC to choose what you prioritise (my feedback was addressed to the former concern).
