  • 5 EASY Ways To Become A Consistent Tennis Player (anyone can do)
Tennis is a game of percentages. Even the best tennis players in history win roughly 55% of entire points they play. That means that every little helps.
Being more consistent than your opponent is often enough to win matches, at any level.
    5 EASY Ways:
    1. Step one in being more consistent is your mindset. Having the right mindset means that you're willing to out-rally opponents. It means that you're willing to go for less power, but reduce the amount of unforced errors you make.
    2. Step two is to eliminate the net. To take the net out of play. This can be done by increasing your net clearance and hitting with a high trajectory. This is something that Rafa Nadal does so well on clay.
    3. Step three is to eliminate the lines. You don't need to hit lines to win tennis matches. Aiming a few feet inside either line is always a good strategy to reducing your unforced error count.
    4. Step four is to play the percentages. When constructing a point from the baseline, the highest percentage play is to hit crosscourt 80-90% of the time. By hitting crosscourt, you'll have more space to hit in to, you'll be hitting over the lowest part of the net (six inches lower than the net posts) and you'll be closer to the ideal recovery zone.
    5. Step five is to use your technique to help you gain the edge. This means using your legs to drive on the forehand and backhand. This means to adapt to the oncoming ball.
    Video Timeline:
    00:00 - Step one (mindset)
01:15 - Step two (eliminate the net)
02:42 - Step three (eliminate the lines)
03:45 - Step four (play the percentages)
06:53 - Step five (use technique to gain the edge)

Excellent.Develop the fundamentals and implement these steps to become a more consistent tennis player. I would also add footwork to the equation.Constantly being on toes or keeping heels off the ground helps me play more consistently with less UE.I remember you saying in one of your videos quote unquote "Footwork is the glue that binds the game together".Thank you for these golden nuggets as always coach Simon.

I think you missed the most important part. Being more physically fit. Your form doesn’t breakdown, you can get to more balls and by doing so make the other player go for more, your mindset changes knowing you’re more physical fit and can out wait the other person

Fitness is one of the keys to being consistent for sure, but fitness = consistency on its own. You need the basics covered here

I did not even think about fitness. For me, it is a given. On the one hand, you are right one the other hand he said "be a consistent player" it is a must to be fit.

Good tips, many of them have been in plenty of other TTT videos, but repetition is the mother of wisdom as we say in my country :)
For me personally it’s always helpful to tell myself to stay low. I tend to make more mistakes when I get lazy with my legs and don’t go under the ball properly before the shots. Being on my toes with bent knees most of the time makes my play more consistent.
The problem is when I get shorter ball that is higher and has no pace. I tend to go for it with straight legs because it’s higher and I also struggle with positioning of my body. It’s very tricky because when I hit the ball around the waist or lower in normal rallies, I am intuitively closer to the ball + getting low, so I bend my knees. But when the ball is higher it’s counterintuitive to get low and at the same time I need to stay further away, because the arm is so much longer when hitting around the shoulder height. I can’t get over making too many mistakes in these situations when I should actually put the ball away. I get myself jammed too often, so instead of crushing the ball with extented arm I have to bend the elbow and the ball ends up in the net, out or it’s a weak shot that’s easily punished, especially when I play it from the service line. There is no option to go back from there and I end up at the net hoping for the opponent’s error.
Do you have any lessons on these kind of middle court high balls? I think I know exactly what I am doing wrong but I probably need to spend a lot of time on some drills to get the positioning right every time I get that kind of ball.

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Thanks Simon! When you get a chance, can you discuss a little bit about footwork (especially on the forehand side) when on the run/stretched further than the double lines? I couldn't find your channel videos on this subject. Thanks as always for your continued upkeep of quality. Hope to see you with Alex doing some lessons.

Step six: get your serve sorted. Double faults must be a thing of the past. PS That's a pretty big racquet switch you've made. Didn't you used to play with a Head, or was it a Dunlop? You find the Babalot works for your single-handed backhand okay?

To become consistent is not hard. Practice with one goal. How many balls can we hit in a row.you don't have to tell your opponent what you are doing just count your successful shots. Your comments!
