That Time I clapped the Secret Boss WITH THESE HANDS [Octopath Traveler II]

  • To complete the Trilogy, I wanted to see if I could get a Castti with 719 Elemental Attack to get the kill off. It worked...but I had to break 24 shields and that took....money.
    Moreover, I also wanted to post this to show how one might use a Conjurer, how breaking 24 shields is actually quite achievable, and to conclude my 3-part series on how you don't actually need level 99 to beat this stuff. I actually find intentional grinding for levels or resetting for perfect RNG to be quite offputting; so I was determined to beat this boss in a few different party comps with whatever stats and levels I had, without grinding for more. I did, however, have to test Castti's attack, and was missing 8k JP on Partitio, so I have 1 or 2 additional levels compared to my Temenos run.

    With this setup, there are certain combinations of turn order that don't require you to bribe the boss with 1.5 million leaves (or fewer if you grab an NPC with Skilled Scheduler). But you have to be very careful not to mess up. If you have 1.5 million, then negotiating is the safe strat.
    Castti has 719 Eatt. This means a buffed Castti can hit a broken (and debuffed) Galdera for 4 hits of ~70k ea (28% of his health-a kill, basically). If she is fullhealed, that damage drops by 1/3 to 23k, which isn't that bad, to be honest. Just keep everyone alive and you're good. A 1hp buffed Castti can also hit a NON-debuffed Galdera for 23-24k per hit as well. Concoct-based damage is nothing to sneeze at, and if you tossed a few more nuts at her, those damage numbers would go up, naturally.

      When studying the video really carefully, I mathed out that I didn't actually HAVE to negotiate. I had enough actions in the right order to break fully. But I guess it was just safer (and funnier) to negotiate anyways.

      So Aeber's scales off of both speed and physical attack, which meant that I loaded Throné with Phys/Speed equipment. She's holding the Vengeful Knife (325 PA / 109 speed), The Bodyguard's Vantage shield, Great Helm (+49 speed), Quick Cloak (+65 speed), 1 Champion's Belt, and 1 Sister's Amulet (100 Crit / 100 Speed).
      Her stats (after nuts, which I distributed physical ones between her, Ochette, and Hikari) end up at: 546 phys att, 472 speed while not holding a weapon | or 775 PA, 589 speed while holding the Vengeful Dagger.
      Expected behaviour over the course of like 6 kills is: ~66 - 70k on souls. ~40k on Omniscient Eye unless it crits (in which case it gets pushed up to ~70k)

    Does it matter which weapon is the traveler holding even if they used a skill?

    • @isaaclopezruiz9597
      @isaaclopezruiz9597 Před rokem +12

      Spells automatically switch to your highest elemental attack weapon. If you use a skill with a sword symbol for example, your character will automatically switch to the sword to use it. If the skill doesn't have any symbols, your character stays with the weapon you had selected before using it (and gains its statistics). Remember that speed only takes effect at the n + 2 turn, that means: it will alter the turn order that has not already been set (doesn't show on screen). At the beggining of the battle, each character starts with a predetermined weapon depending on their primary class: sword for hikari, dagger for throne... Which means it will use the speed of those weapons. On attack effects happen both when attacking with the weapon and using a skill that has a weapon symbol (if it doesn't, it won't trigger the on attack effect, that includes elemental pursuits).
      Obviously weapons imbued with an element will use the elemental attack of that weapon only on attack. Castti's concoction uses the elemental attack of the weapon you have selected, this is an exception to how spells work for some reason.

      It DOES matter what weapon the Apothecary is holding while concocting, hence why I always swap to the staff before doing so. This normally doesn't matter for regular elemental attacks, but concoct is a unique instance.
      Edit: oh Isaac already covered that. Whoops. Just wanted to emphasize that part
